About this property

Oasis in Old Town - special summer & fall deals!

Our sweet ‘conch’ cottage in old town Key West has been completely redesigned and custom crafted by 2 architects as our home away from home and we offer it as a MONTHLY rental when we aren’t using it ourselves. It is located in a wonderfully private yet centrally located neighborhood on a hidden lane. as our home away from home. This intimate house boasts many fun and thoughtful features which will help make your stay in Key West special. It has a lovely small freeform heated pool (with a salt water system that feels like natural water and a built-in bench), and a relaxing patio in a private backyard - complete with outdoor eating area and a wonderful outdoor shower (with hot and cold water!). Swim, eat, and watch butterflies and birds under the palms....
Summer-Fall of 2025 we are running a special- there may be construction next door so we are offering great discounts if you’d like to come stay in paradise during this season.
This is a classic compact 'Conch' house, typical of old Key West. This house is in a truly quiet, residential neighborhood just a few short blocks to Duval Street, the boisterous hub of town. Although on the cozy side, we designed it to be light and airy and is decorated with lovely modern furnishings, wireless broadband internet service (reaches the pool area as well), living/dining/kitchen area and it even has a second comfortable living room complete with a smart TV. Both downstairs bedrooms also feature flat panel smart TVs.

The house is perfect for your retreat both inside and out. Inside it's cool with tile floors, central air, cathedral ceilings, a full, modern kitchen, 2 bedrooms plus a comfortable carpeted loft with 2 twin beds in one room and a double futon in the other (accessed via a steep stair). We also have 2 lovely tiled bathrooms - one with a creatively tiled tub/shower and the other with a tumbled marble tiled shower. All beds are comfortable with new mattresses! Our home is strictly non-smoking.

We have provided everything you’ll need to make you feel right at home including a small collection of books, a fully stocked kitchen, a gas grille (with gas provided) and cooling ceiling fans in every room. Call us for current availability and rates for your stay. We are open to accepting pets and have a separate pet fee (if pets accepted) with an additional mid-monthly cleaning required.

All you need to bring to this lovely island is your bathing suit, a pair of shorts and flip flops and come enjoy the beauty and diversity that Key West has to offer!

Here's a quick To Do list I sent to someone recently: 'So much to do here! Taking a sand bar trip out to the reef (about 5 miles out) is great - can combine it with sunset, parasailing is awesome, best beach for swimming/snorkeling is Ft. Zachary Taylor - not perfect sand (lots of coral) but lovely place with beach chairs for hire too, great dining all over - definitely try our local fine dining restaurant Lola’s for a splurge (2 seatings per night- call for reservations), we also love El Siboney - a locals Cuban place, really tasty croissants at Moondog Cafe, great place for cafe con leche/breakfast is 5 Brothers on Southard/Grinnell, La Te Da has fabulous high class drag shows and dinner, rent bikes from Eaton St bikes (they’ll deliver and pick up) or rent a scooter or golf cart for the day. That's for starters. Don't need to bring many clothes or fancy shoes - very casual and carribean. Flip flops work well here day and night!
p.s. At the house we've left a couple of binders stuffed with menus and things-to-do and places-to-go while you're in town. We hope you find Key West as enchanting as we do!

Sweet Little Slice of Paradise

Our family of four, including two teens, loved staying in this home. Quaint and full of beautiful little touches, including a fantastic shower in the master bath, this is a relaxing spot to enjoy Key West. The house has a lovely dipping pool in the back and a nice kitchen, should you want to cook. We ate out most of the time given all the great options so close by. This is really an ideal location, quite and lovely neighborhood with beautiful homes, yet walking distance to restaurants and entertainment. The home also has four bikes available which we used to go everywhere including daily beach trips. Looking forward to another trip to Key West and hope to stay here again.

Style, comfort, beauty and convenience

This is a wonderful place to stay when visiting Key West, whether for a weekend, a week or a month. Irene and Soren are great hosts. They can give you all sorts of guidance on how to explore the many facets of this intriguing island, if you want it. The interior of the house is both beautiful and comfortable. There are comfy spaces for two or three people to chat privately, as well as a spacious dining and living area. There is beautiful tiling throughout the house which adds special colorful touches to each room. The pool is right out the back door, inviting you to take a plunge. Stay here once and you'll want to return as often as you can.

A month in Paradise!

The house is cute, well stocked with utensils, pots and pans, and all space is efficiently utilized. It's great sitting on the back patio beside the pool, enjoying the sun and the breezes. The house is centrallly located in Old Town Key West-everything is walking distance.

Awesome Conch cottage in the heart of Old Town

We LOVED o.ur stay at Casa Dulce! The pool is heated so you can swim at night. Completely redone on the inside, with a great kitchen. Netflix and Prime are both included, and there are 3 big screen TVs. It's on a super quiet lane, a minute or two by bike to Duval St and Mallory Dock for sunset. We plan on renting again for our next month stay in Key West, our favorite town in America!

Dream home in Key West!

Wow! This home far exceeded our expectations! The home was perfectly laid out and felt way bigger than 1000 sq ft. It was our own private oasis in Key West. The house had everything we could possibly need. We enjoyed cooking in the spacious kitchen and we loved hanging out in the living space right on the kitchen. The rain shower in the master bathroom is so amazing that I told my husband we need to redo our bathroom at home just like it. It was very hot while we were there so we used the pool all the time! You can tell the owners really love their home and want others to do the same. Any contact with the owners was extremely pleasant and they were so very helpful! We were lucky to stay for a whole month because I was on maternity leave. Staying at this home was a fabulous way to introduce our baby boy to the keys! The only thing I wish is for this house to be available for weekly rentals so we can stay every time we come to Key West! Thank you so much for sharing your home with us!

Vacation dream hideaway

Irene and Soren's home is close to everything. Great shopping and restaurants are just a short walk away. The house is a gem. Beautifully appointed, and very comfortable. We loved sitting in the backyard by the pool. It is so quiet and peaceful. We will definitely be back!

Visit to Soren and Irene's place!

This home is the perfect home away from home! The comfort and consideration to detail was exquisite and allowed for the diversity of our group! I had a boys vacation with my 11 and my 23 year old sons and reflective of our divergent interests there was plenty of space for each of us. Situated right in key wests heart we could walk or bike to everything! It was a fantastic vacation!

Great Location in Key West! Have Recommended to Friends!

Location! Location! Location! This updated historic "Conch" house is conveniently located within walking distance of Duval as well as the Seaport area. The beach is only a bike ride away. It is located in a quiet residential area. When returning back from a day of activity it is so nice to return and enjoy a drink and/or grilling by the pool in their private backyard. In the mornings we enjoyed having coffee on the porch. Once settled in, we walked and biked everywhere. Did not need our car at all. The house is cozy and feels like home as soon as you walk in. Appointed with all the amenities you could want. There are two bedrooms and a great little loft area. A big plus is having two bathrooms as many homes seem to only have one and a half in this area. We have stayed here twice and have recommended to friends that have also stayed at this wonderful property. The owners were wonderful to work with as well as their property managers.

October Rental - Architects Cottage

I recently rented this cottage for the month of October and found the cottage to be in the perfect location, far enough away from Duval to offer peace and quiet yet close enough to access the many dinning options easily. The neighborhood is quiet, with neighbors very friendly and welcoming. The house is very well appointed and the renovations are quite tasteful and unique. I found the cottage perfectly comfortable for 4 adults, with additional room upstairs in the loft for children or even an additional adult. The pool is relaxing and private, everything you would want for the perfect getaway. The management staff / caretaker of the property is more than accommodating and extremely focused on making sure you have everything you need in the house. I would highly recommend this rental for your vacation / extended stay enjoyment.

Poorme Lane

I have been renting in Key West yearly for almost 15 years. Before that, I used to live there. I would not recommend this house. When we arrived it was dark, dirty and had a bad musty smell. The very small second bedroom is very dark and the comforter was actually wet to the touch from dampness in the house. My mother was miserable in this room. The loft upstairs has no windows and is completely dark when the light is not on ( one tiny lamp ) The carpet upstairs had a disgusting stain that ran the whole length of the room. I am assuming that it was dog pee. That is what it looked and smelled like. It took Key West Hideaways two weeks to get a carpet cleaner to the house to clean it! There is also a vent upstairs that had two inches of dust all clogged in it. It literally made my daughter sick. The house is on part of the lane where there are no other homes except a boarded up one right next door. There is no parking at all. Even our electric car that we would have to charge every now and again caused a huge problem. The neighbors are not friendly and called the police on us more than once - for charging the car -(even though there was two other streets to leave the lane from) The only good things I can say about this property is that the AC worked well, the pool was nice, and the location is good. It was more inexpensive than other properties that I have stayed at in Key West - you get what you pay for. Don't stay here. You'll regret it.

Great month at Casa Dulce Key West

We have been vacationing in Key West for 18 years but this is the first time we were lucky enough to be able to rent a home for an entire month and bring our pets with us. Casa Dulce is a great little fully renovated "shotgun" house. Location on a tiny quiet lane right in Old Town close to restaurants and the KW cemetery could not have been better. The front porch right on the lane is a comfortable place to have a cup of coffee in the morning or a glass of wine in the evening. The enclosed back yard has a private free form pool, glass topped table (with a large umbrella and four chairs) and two loungers is a also a great place to hang out. The house is pretty well stocked with everything you may need: beach towels and regular bath towels, fairly nice stocked kitchen/laundry facilities ( although there were no dish towels, paper towels or "starter" laundry detergent- we had some of our own with us and simply used them), comfortable beds and linens. The house is not very large and the bedrooms and bathrooms are a bit tiny but we were absolutely fine with that. We were allowed to have guests stay with us but felt that having more than 2 other people with us a time would be a bit crowded in the house. The furniture is mostly comfortable (although the sofa in the back living area has seen better days). The loft area (which has 2 twin beds) is a bit challenging to access via very steep steps- not for someone with any kind of mobility issues for sure. But would be great for kids or someone who doesn't mind climbing the steps. The property included a full size clothes washer and dryer outside in the back yard. There is no off street parking included with Casa Dulce but we were able to find parking close by on Margaret Street (right by the old Harris School/Mangia Mangia restaurant). Mostly we left our car parked and either walked or bicycled everywhere. If we had any issues, Kevin the property manager was very quick to respond. E.g. The pool started to get quite cloudy and Kevin had the pool service come by very quickly and rectify the problem. But any issues were quite minor. Casa Dulce has a beach house feel to it which makes it pretty much perfect. Thank you Soren and Irene! We have already made our reservations to return for the month of March 2016!

Month long stay December 2014

This was my 3rd attempt at visiting Key West. We finally had success. Last time is was there we rented on a key close to Key West. The day after we arrived my mother fell and broke her pelvis, we spent the 2 weeks we were there visiting her at the Key West Hospital. I do not recommend it. This time we stayed for a month. I loss my Iphone, but some nice person turned it into the sheriff's department, so i got it back. We really enjoyed out stay on Pourhouse Lane. it was an excursion to find it, but we finally got there. the rental company was very helpful, because we had a few electrical problems. Kevin was there immediately every time we called and repairs were made quickly. this is a very nice cottage, close to Duval Street and not a tough walk to the beach or marina (we both are senior citizens). We ate out about 3 times a week and most restaurants were fantastic. I recommend the 6 Toed Cat for Key Lime Pie and Lobster Benedict. Other restaurants for dinner: Cafe Marquesa, Nine One Five, Martin's, Cafe Sole, and Seven Fishes (which is just down the street a short walk). This property was lovely. We spent our afternoons in the backyard by and in the pool. Parking could have been a problem, but if you found a spot and did not move your car on the week-end it was no problem. We went to the Publx's grocery store on Wednesday for Thursday with the car and walked every where else. I brought my sweet little kitty with me and other then getting use to the airplanes that flew in and out directly over head(she's a country cat) she did great. We would really consider coming back to Pourhouse Lane if we visit Key West again. Thanks Soren and Irene

Month long stay with family in ideally located Old-Town Home

This was my 4th visit to Key West so I knew what area of town I wanted to stay in for a month long vacation and the Poorhouse Lane property couldn't have been more ideal as far as walkability to all the Old-Town sights. Duval is a short walk, but I did love that it was on a quiet street. The neighbors nearby are charming (especially Joseph who lives across the ally and was always ready with a good recommendation of restaurants for dinner) While there is no parking with the property we never had a problem finding on-street parking about 100 feet from the front door (in front of Jimmy Buffet's house). The house isn't huge (Most Key West homes aren't) but the layout and three bedrooms afforded us enough privacy for us to relax and get some quiet time if we needed it. The property management company that takes care of the house for the owners was very accommodating and tried to rectify an problems that we had during our stay. The gas grill stopped working, and Kevin the property manager arrived with a new one within two hours. I had realistic expectations this is a home and not a hotel. So there isn't daily housekeeping, and not everything is 100% pristine but I was found the house to be warm and welcoming and felt comfortable there. My only complaint was that the pool heater was broken for 3 of the 4 weeks we were there. The pool water wasn't freezing but a little to chilly for a wimp like me. I would certainly recommend this property to friends and would consider staying there again if we were lucky enough to go on another month long vacation. With rental rates for Key West being pretty high I found the rent to be far, and I appreciated that I was able to bring my dogs for an nominal fee. Thanks Soren and Irene for a great stay!

2 weeks in heaven

I rented this property for myself, my college age daughter, niece, & nephew, and, most importantly, my elderly parents. The house is absolutely lovely! It is small but the layout is smart. Everyone can go to their own area and have peace, quiet, & privacy. We picked up the keys at the rental mgmt co. & with a little bit of looking, found the cottage. It is on a quiet, tucked away lane and it is perfect! We had a few bumps along the way(no bathroom tissue on arrival :/, the oven/microwave fuse went out day #2 (but fixed on day #5), and the grill ran out of gas the 3rd time we used it. Pool fought hard to be a shade of green. But we won!! Please realize- these are all things that would happen at home-because something always comes up! It became comical and we just rolled with it, -used the toaster oven and stove. We bought a crockpot! The pots/pans have been abused, almost bought some new ones! and we bought some plastic food containers. We left what non-perishable staples & supplies we didn't use, for the next group to enjoy. Kevin- the property mgr was awesome! Very apologetic about the pool- we didn't mind! On vacation, in paradise, with a beer in hand! Owning a pool, esp in this climate is a daily battle with rain and trees. :) Plenty of towels, linens, and W/D! Highly recommend this home for active people. Rent bikes!! Cabs quick & easy! I would recommend a list for Key West rookies- with a map, list of grocery stores, pharmacies to help newbies orient. We took a cab to Winn Dixie the first eve, then made small trips to CVS or WD via bike. This home is in the heart of KW. Biked or walked for all of our activities! Don't recommend a car-park at end of lane never had any spots avail. If I return to Key West, this will be the home for me! Must do's: Dry Tortugas, Duetto pizza & gelato, Wyland Gallery (purchased my first painting!), Key Lime Pie (Kermit's was our favorite), Mallory Square, Ft Zachary Taylor, museums, deep sea fishing, cemetary, shop local artisans, parasailing, & most important- relax in the pool every day/eve. I can't say enough about what a wonderful time we had. You will not be disappointed in this home- keep the right attitude-Vacation! Relax! Enjoy casa dulce! We made life long memories on this trip & I wouldn't change a thing! My dad already told me he misses the little house on Poorhouse Ln. :) and so do I! Soren & Kevin were great & can answer all of your questions! Life is short! Go to Key West! and stay here!

Incredible Vacation!

We enjoyed our stay on Poorhouse Ln. We took our son on our boat from Ft. Myers Beach to Key West in June and kept the boat at Key West Bight Marina. The house was walking distance to everything: marinas, Duval St, The Sunset Pier, restaurants etc. (Mangia Mangia is a great italian restaurant in the neighborhood a few blocks away). If you have a boat, the three best boating spots were Boca Grande (Beautiful white beach), Sand Key (Snorkeling!) and Key West Harbour Yacht Club on Stock Island (Great pool, beach, food and country club atmosphere). The home is clean, updated, well decorated, and priced right. The pool is small but perfect! My wife's parents and their son joined us for a week. It was cozy and fun. The location is the key (Location, Location, Vacation!) since you don't need a car. You can explore Key West and everything it has to offer and escape to the quiet, private, clean home to cool off in the pool and plan the next adventure!

Second stay just as good as the first

This was my second visit to Casa Dulce. I love this house so much. I refer to it as "my house" to people, and am planning visit # 3 soon. It truly is my home away from home. The location is what I love about it most. My friends and I feel so comfy and safe there. We love everything about it, especially the pool. We clean and care for this home as if it was our own. The couch looked like it had seen better days, but that will not stop us from returning. See you soon for sure!

Two Months at Casa Dulce: A Deep Dive into Old Town

The southern loop of Poorhouse Lane is a study in contrasts. Casa Dulce sits between a two story home on Olivia and an undeveloped twin conch house next door. As we learned, this provides a unique sound and privacy buffer that simply can't be matched by rental homes on the main drags. The interior of the home is warm, smartly appointed and comfortable. Our favorite amenity is the small pool in the back yard that afforded us both daytime and evening dips in pool temperatures we could regulate to our liking. Picture lying on your back in warm water on a 75 degree night looking up through the palm fronds at the starlit southern sky - truly Zen moments! Casa Dulce is ideally suited to snow birds who truly want to experience the neighborhood feel of Old Town. It sits in stark contrast to the resort feel of the gated community at Truman Annex. We're already signed up for next year!

Great Time and Great House!

Thank you Irene & Soren for answering all my questions, plus the quick return of my security deposit too. Your home is just as pictured. Lovely remodeled kitchen, bathrooms and the sunroom. Great location and central to everything. Quiet neighborhood. We appreciated Bill Bultler Park for our dog and enjoyed the company of the neighbors. The home next door is vacant right now and has been for quite a while. We locked our bikes to their fence but I would inquire if any renovation work has started, so you would know about potential noise. Thank you for sharing your home with us.

Beauty & Efficiency come together in this Key West home

This is a wonderful house. It reminds me of a ship, a yacht, with everything perfectly placed for both efficiency and beauty. There are two bedrooms downstairs, and an attic-like space upstairs which is perfect for teenagers and children, who have the feeling that they are in a hideout, a treehouse, with windows looking down on the adults. There are two separate rooms downstairs for gatherings, one in front and one overlooking the pool and garden in back. This enables some of you to be watching a movie while others are talking or just relaxing. The neighborhood is really local, quiet and private. And if you have a dog, there is a great little park just down the lane where locals bring their dogs each morning and evening. The house is walking or biking distance from Duval Street, Schooner Wharf and the waterfront, and all of Key West's excitement. I loved this house.

Perfect location, beautifully decorated

We stayed for the month of February and found the house to be in a perfect location. We could walk to almost everywhere in Old Town: Duval Street, Higg's Beach, fine and funky restaurants, White Street pier for sunrise, the docks, and Mallory Square for sunsets. The pool and yard are a tremendous plus. The house is beautifully decorated and has everything you would need for a short or long stay. You'll love it!

Host profile image
My husband and I are architects and have worked in the residential design/build field for the past 20+ years building custom homes and renovating existing historic houses. I continue to practice architecture and my husband is now selling real estate, a passion of his since adolescence. We have 2 wonderful children who have spent many happy winter vacations at the house. We also spent a year in our Key West house with our kids (and my mother-in-law), our wolf hound and our cat while the kids went to the local schools. We loved getting to know the town from a local's perspective. It's a town with a terrific arts community and talented musicians of all sorts.

Why they chose this property

We fell in love with Key West the first time we visited. We stayed out on 'the strip' (large hotels) on that visit but spent much of our time wandering the streets of old town and started to look for a house to buy. We knew that the town's funky flavor, intimacy and relaxed feel was unique and it just spoke to us. The locals treated us well from that very first visit and we felt at home immediately. We love to bike and walk and the town is made for walking! Everything you need is within 1/2 mile it seems, and the architecture enchanted us more and more as we wandered the lovely streets and alleys. We had spent much time in and around New York City growing up, so the grid layout of the town was easily understandable and within a day we could find our way around. We felt at ease here and found so much to see and do while also giving us the space to relax and take in the beautiful ocean surrounding the island with it's incredible crystal turquoise waters!

What makes this property unique

Our house is in a perfect location - no kidding. - it's within a few blocks of the tourist hub of town and is an easy 10 minute walk or bike ride from everything you could possibly want. There's a library within 4 blocks, tons of restaurants and shops, a great Cuban coffee place about 6 blocks away, art galleries, small supermarkets and the best beach in town is about a mile away. We still can't believe that we found such a location. And, it's private and on a lane that many people can't find - perfect for a getaway. We also put in a lovely curved pool which creates an oasis under our coconut palm for those lazy afternoons or dinner on the patio. We created a home that will be perfect for your visit and hope that it entices you to stay again and again, as it does for us. We ask that you respect the quiet that you will find around you; this is an established full time resident kind of neighborhood, so we want to make sure that our renters fit right in and feel at home.
