About this property

Remodeled Cook Forest Cabin

Enjoy this newly renovated 100-year-old log cabin in the heart of Cook Forest. With the ability to sleep 6 and a full bathroom, this is a gem just minutes away from all the best hiking + river activities. The new kitchen makes "roughing it" a little more manageable, while the wrap-around porch, WiFi, and private yard make it easy to stay on the property if you don't feel like going out. Come enjoy our little family getaway spot with yours.

The original log cabin features a one-wall kitchen, dining table, sleeper couch, wood-burning fireplace, 50" TV, a nook with a small rocking chair, and a loft with 2 full-size beds underneath and 2 full mattresses in the loft. A suite built off of the main room includes a full bathroom and a queen-size bed, with a door to the backyard.

Red Fox Cabin sits right on Rt 36, the main road through Cook Forest. Located in the center of Cook Forest, you don't have to travel far to enjoy the trails, river, sights, and more. Being situated close to the road might not be the most idyllic setting, but is extremely convenient, and our modern design and comforts will make your stay a memorable one!

Great cabin

Overall, this met all of our needs and then some. We loved the renovated cabin and the convenient location. We didn’t love how loud it was with the traffic zooming by, but it didn’t bother us enough to affect our stay. Our kids enjoyed the games provided and the cozy beds. We were a bit fearful of the loft area as there is a spot where the kids could fall over if they weren’t being careful. However, we were able to put the ladder up so they couldn’t access it on their own. Everything was pretty clean with the exception of some stains in the bathroom and spiders in the windows and corners of the house. Bring your own toiletries for the shower. We loved the fireplace and amazing front porch. We would happily book this cabin again!

Stay at Red Fox

My family and I had a wonderful time during the weekend we stayed. The cabin was the perfect blend of rustic and modern and had everything we needed for our stay. If you’re looking for a cabin that is close to Cook Forest State Park this is perfect. Would highly recommended! Thank you Doug + Steph for being such wonderful hosts.

Perfect cabin

The cabin was in a great central location to Cook Forest, shops, and places to eat. It was clean and cozy with the most comfortable beds. We loved to spend time on the porch reading, talking, playing games. We would definitely recommend this property to others, and we hope to come back soon!

We love blending rustic, minimalist, and modern design elements to create clean, cozy spaces where you can feel inspired and revived. We designed a space that we love to be in, and hope that others will love it, too!

Why they chose this property

Cook Forest is an incredibly beautiful getaway spot. The community is small and friendly. We love the river, trails, and enjoying the simplicity of nature.

What makes this property unique

The original log cabin was built in 1920 by the Cook family. We’ve heard all kinds of stories about what this has been over the years. It was home to the first Parker’s Indian Trading Post (you can visit the current store right down the road), an ice cream parlor, a t-shirt shop, and who knows what else! The suite and bathroom were added in the 1990s to transition the property into a more livable space.

Our family purchased and renovated this cabin in 2022. We christened it “Red Fox Cabin” because all our boys have hair the color of a red fox. Our hope is that this would be a place of rest, refuge, and restoration for everyone who spends time here.
