Conveniently located all within 3-15 minutes from most of Yakima's hotspots! (P.S. if you are allergic to animals, this is NOT your place! Visiting family

Enjoyed the property. Beautiful setting with lake, trees, privacy. Kitchen cabinets a bit disorganized with old stuff. Just needs decluttering.

Perfect hideaway within the city

We fully enjoyed our stay here. Fresh eggs, a fresh loaf of bread and a bottle of wine greeted us. We enjoyed waking up and sitting on the back deck or front porch to drink coffee and catch up on our reading. Both decks look out towards the private pond. The best part is that we were not far from regular city attractions or the freeway. We would definitely recommend this to others.

Poor communication

Tried to contact owner several times with no response. Property is very nice. Far too many rules though. We enjoyed our stay but it could have been better.

Lovely house the feels secluded but is close to town.

The house is lovely. It is an old house that Jenny has added onto making the kitchen, dining room/sun room very bright and welcoming. The master bedroom and bath are VERY NICE - open, bright and roomy. It was nice to sit on the bedroom deck and watch the birds, goats and peacocks. At night there was a symphony of frogs from the pond. The house is separated from the road by a row of trees that adds greatly to the isolated feeling.

Better than the Pictures!

If a picture paints a thousand words, being there paints a million! What a lovely refuge from all that might worry you. Jenny's Pond is a world unto itself, with manicured grounds, a cottage quaintly nestled in yester-year, and an owner who boasts hospitality with fresh flowers, a bottle of delightful estate wine, delicious bread and butter, and eggs from a nearby hen house. In all my VRBO experiences, I have never felt more welcomed in a home, have never been more pleased with the rental value, and have never been more impressed with the cleanliness of the property. Seriously, this experience has created memories of a lifetime for me, my wife, our daughter, and our son-in-law. Thank you Jenny!

Rude host and unreasonable expectations for guests

We had difficulty with check in despite prior communication with owner. We followed instructions and it took over an hour and a half to access property, even though we arrived over 3 hours AFTER check in time. The owner even told us to go find something to do "to better use our time" while she located her mother to let us in. We were chastised by both owner and then her mother when she finally arrived to let us onto the property. This is not a property you can come and go at your own convenience. They then tried to tell us we couldn't have a four week old infant at the house because the four week infant might "make a mess" or "get into the pond". They have a HUGE clean up list...you will basically be cleaning the entire house before you leave. It took four of us an hour to clean to their expectations. I have stayed in dozens of rental homes and I have NEVER seen such expectations for guests. To top it off we found hair in both showers upon arrival, which we had to clean out to take showers. The furniture was old, broken down, and outdated with the exception of the master's bedroom. I have never been so rudely treated by property owners. It was one hassle after the other which made the weekend stressful instead of relaxing. Unless you are willing to be at the mercy of the owner and her mother spare yourself the additional stress and rudeness and find another VRBO to stay at!

Fun place to stay

The place was exactly as described, once I figured out that Jenny is the owner’s mom, the communication went smoothly, which was probably my misunderstanding. The cottage is next to a working farm with sheep, chickens and peacocks (unfortunately we didn’t see any). It was fun to wake up and watch the sheep graze, while drinking our coffee. Jenny told us later that the pond is stock with fish, but i didn't have my fishing pole. So she came back later and brought a new pole and all the tackle to use, i caught 3 fish for our dinner. That was great, thanks Jenny!!, The only minuses were the road noise, and lots of specific instructions. But the place was very clean, and we didn’t mind leaving it as we found it.

Sunland Sweet

This sweet little cottage was just right for our purpose of touring a few Yakima Vineyards. Secluded behind secure gates and thick trees the home feels very private. The backyard has lots of wildlife. It was quite bucolic.

Unwelcoming

We arrived 1hour early and were berated for it by Jenny. We would of been happy to come back in 1hour, but instead Jenny was very passive aggressive about the situation. She showed us around and described all the rules and conditions. She also emphasised on several occasions that we needed to clean the cottage before we left. The checklist on departure was like no other I’ve seen. On leaving, we followed the checklist and did do all that was asked. Unfortunately we received a nasty email on our departure from Jenny accusing us of stealing 4 towels and stating we left the master bedroom and bathroom a mess, (which we did not) due to the fact we didn’t wash the shower and counter tops. Unreal. Extremely disappointed. Aside from our unfortunate encounter with the host, the cottage has a bizarre layout and really only suitable for a couple. Master bedroom is nice, but has no curtains, so gets really bright early morning. Also the deck outside was full of animal droppins and very dirty. Very underwhelmed and disappointed. Definitely would not go back.

Perfect base for our wine weekend

My husband and I had a wonderful stay here! It was quiet and peaceful. We were welcomed with a dozen eggs and a bottle of white wine. The master bedroom was huge, it's bed very comfortable. The view of the pond was relaxing. We were very close to many of the wineries and had a great time! The only downside was the second bedroom's bed, according to the couple who came with us, was uncomfortable. Everything was very clean and welcoming. If we come back for another wine tasting we will be sure to see if it's available.

Fabulous Setting with lots of extras

A great house with lots of room and beautiful settings on the back sun deck and the front porch and the grounds are a beautiful place for a walk and a great hostess. Jenny made us feel like we were her personal guests. I highly recommend especially for those who want to see some great wineries and a must see is the Krueger Pepper Farm and Ginkgo Petrified Forest, and Cowiche Canyon. And we will always remember Tuxedo and we miss him.. Thank you Jenny and Julia

Yellow cottage is quaint, and yet modern.

We liked this cottage as it was located in the city, yet totally country. The master suite and bathroom are brand new and gorgeous. The kitchen and other areas of the cottage are quaint. The porches are beautiful to sit in and relaxing, looking over the vineyard or the lake. We liked the quiet with no neighbors and no schedule. If you are wanting to "get away" then this is the place for you. Wine tasting or sitting on the backdeck enjoying a cup of coffee, we found the environment perfect.

Sunland Cottage is AMAZING!!!

This incredible farmhouse is Fantastic. It is so much more than a beautiful charming bright yellow home. It is a retreat. The property is gorgeous. You can sit on the back porch and look over a private pond and the vineyard, and the roaming horses and feel like you are miles from town. The home is incredibly charming and I heard the master suite that was just added is fabulous. My friends and I had so much fun we didn't want to leave. Yakima has great wineries to visit, beautiful fruit stands with gourmet treats. We can't wait to book our next visit. The owners were great to work with and everything was better than we could have hoped for. If you wish you had a beautiful cottage and a vineyard and horses and beautiful chickens and peakcocks with beautiful gardens you can come here and have it all!

About the host

Hosted by Jenny Snyder will host you. Julia Snyder, her daughter assists with bookings.

Host profile image
For the past thirty plus years, the Sunland estate has been under the loving care of Jenny and Mark Snyder. Raised on a 3000 acre farm in Minnesota, Jenny drove a tractor before a car! Rather then stay inside to help her mother out with chores, Jenny preferred to sneak outside to join her father and brothers. She soaked up billions of brain cells of farming knowledge from them. She also loved to disappear out on her horse! But do not confuse her with a tom-boy, in college she was crowned Miss St. Cloud.

Today, not a lot has changed. Jenny is a farmer, a fashionista, and an amazing cook! She over-sees Sunland Vineyards and Guest Cottage. Over the years, the land has been transformed from a cattle ranch, to a goat farm, to a Morgan horse farm, and now to a fertile vineyard. (Thanks in part to ash deposited by Mt. St. Helens) Around the neighborhood, Jenny is known as the egg-lady as she generously shares her free-range-organic-farm fresh eggs!

Jenny and Mark's love for youth has inspired them to host over 91 exchange students. Rather then hit 100, they are extending an invitation to you, to vacation in the sun, while staying at their fun-loving Guest Cottage. Walk the Vineyard with your sweety hand in hand! It’s a FUN-loving romantic weekend getaway that you’ll want to keep returning to!

Get ready to thoroughly enjoy yourself! Jenny is a woman who has always been ahead of her time, and is always ready to have a sweet time! (G-rated!)

Why they chose this property

Jenny's love for farming inspired her to convince Mark to purchase it. For years she had watched, her neighbors raise hundreds of goats on it! Its steep hillside provided the goats with terrain that kept them entertained! Decades later, as the wine industry in Yakima grew in momentum, the vision for the property expanded! Today it is planted in over 8 varieties of grapes which are sold to local wine makers such as Gilbert Cellars and Naches Height. The steep hillside and rocky terrain makes the land ideal to capture the sun's attention! Very similar to the hillside vineyards in France, the grapes thrive in this growing environment.
