History:
The Bungalow on Twine was built in 1956 and was the family home of Henry and Katherine Twine. Mr. Twine was named a “Great Floridian” for his courageous efforts as a leader in the civil rights movement and his important contributions to Lincolnville and this historic city. We are honored to continue to display his distinguished plaque in the front yard. Mrs. Twine was awarded the prestigious “Aviles Award” by the City of St. Augustine. Her 'Freedom Hat' is still on display in the Lincolnville Museum, just a few blocks away. We have many wonderful books on the history of St. Augustine, including one with interesting historical information about Mr. & Mrs. Twine, the significance of the Civil Rights Movement in Lincolnville and it even mentions the ‘Twine House’.
Guests have access to the entire house during their stay minus the small attached garage. Garage is owners storage.
Lincolnville is a peaceful, quaint and historical neighborhood. A great location for a vacation getaway; close enough to walk or bike ride downtown and still a relaxing, family friendly retreat. Many homes in Lincolnville have been beautifully renovated and many more are in different stages of being restored. We feel this adds to the charm of the area, allowing our visitors to feel like one of the locals and experience every day life in St. Augustine, past and present. There are fabulous restaurants such as The Blue Hen and Preserved which are within walking distance. The Crave food truck, The Distillery, Dog Rose Brewery, San Sebastian Winery and many other popular establishments and attractions can easily be reached on foot or by bike. We are a 15 minute walk to the downtown area, a 20 minute walk to St. George Street, Castillo de San Marcos, the Bridge of Lions and all of the amazing historical treasures that make our city so memorable. The bungalow is one block over from the water; breathtaking sunrise and sunset views can be enjoyed at Freedom Park, located at the end of Riberia Street. The horse and carriages are kept in stables a few blocks away and you will see them come by the home during your stay. The local community pool, located at the Gallimore Center, is one block away and available to guests for a $1 fee.
The house is within walking distance to some nearby restaurants and downtown is about a 15-20 minute walk. Uber and lifts are fairly inexpensive since were in the heart of downtown and close to the beaches. Bike rentals and scooter rental shops are just a few minutes walk from the Bungalow. The Old Town Trolley or Red Train is a great way to explore the city and learn about its History.
