About this property

Elegant Villa in Private Hope Bay. Infinity Pool with Sea View.

Sights 'n Sounds is one of the most elegantly designed and furnished villas on Bequia. It has an open floor plan that marries outdoors with indoors and allows family and friends to easily migrate from the pool to the verandah to the kitchen and living room with ease.

The home is furnished and equipped as a permanent residence, not a rental. King plantation poster beds, the finest linens, 2 over sized linen sofas, palecek love seats, and solid teak outdoor lounge chairs and rockers.

The chef's kitchen leaves no tool to be desired. A 48' Viking range with double ovens will cook for any size party. Dine indoors or al fresco under the stars. A large stainless outdoor gas grill is conveniently adjacent to the kitchen and pool.

Each guest room is distinctly private. The lower guest suite has an adjoining half bedroom with bunk beds for families that like to keep young children in close proximity at night. The detached guest cottage has its own kitchenette, private verandah and outdoor rainwater shower. Each bedroom is air conditioned but has two sets of doors and windows, one set with plantation style louvers and one set with glass panes, thereby allowing guests flexibility to chose their preferred sleeping environment and mix of views, ocean breeze, security and/or air-conditioning. Two bedrooms are adjoined by large double sink bathrooms and private dressing rooms with ample built in closets and drawers for the most well packed traveler.

The expansive grounds are exquisitely manicured with an abundance of tropical foliage, flowers, plants, flowering trees and fruit trees. Pick fresh papaya, mango and grapefruit every morning directly from the property for breakfast or a snack. Oranges, key limes and avocado are also grown on the property and available to pick depending on the time of year.

The entire home is constructed from natural materials. The ceilings, doors, windows and living room floors are hand milled from stunning Brazilian Ipe' wood. Elegant coral wall finishes and tiles complement the rich wood grain to provide a bright clean and crisp island vibe. A massive wrap-around verandah and partially covered pool deck provide almost limitless options for lounging in sun or shade at any time of day. Ceiling fans adorn every single interior room and every square foot of covered verandah.

Stop looking and book this villa !
Absolutely stunning villa with breathtaking views! And we have stayed in many villas in the Caribbean. We enjoyed our stay immensely! The owner Tom was super friendly and went out of his way to help out with the booking process and all the details about the island. Joy the care taker cooked us an authentic East Indian Dinner the 1st evening we arrived! It was absolutely amazingly. She was a total sweetheart! We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect stay! Beaches were gorgeous and the vibe on the island was very relaxed. We were so sad to leave. Hope to come back soon.

Impressively private and peaceful.
This VIlla was beautifully sited, designed and constructed and is beautifully furnished and maintained. We've stayed at lots of wonderful villas on lots of islands in the Caribbean and this place is the real deal. It seems that at every decision point, the owners opted for the best materials and options-it's really a wonderful place. The Villa works well, the Great Room is indeed Great and the patio and pool deck make for great outdoor, but shaded, spaces. There's plenty of sun exposure from sunrise to sunset and the view of Hope Beach, Mustique and nearby islands sucks the stress right out of you. We'd love to return.

We got fresh homemade bread! The people on the island were all very welcoming! We will definitely be back to Bequia!

Magical get-away spot
This house is nothing short of spectacular. Amazing views… relaxing sounds of waves crashing just like a dream to sleep and wake to… and a truly unique house that totally opens up to nature in every direction. Owners very helpful, and on-site staff couldn’t be nicer. Highly recommend having Joy cook for you a couple nights - she’s fantastic. Loved our visit.

Signts N Sounds, the Ultimate Getaway Trip
Sights N Sounds in the Hope Estate was an amazing experience from start to finish. The hospitality from the property owner to the staff onsite (Joy, Felix and Kelson) was second to none. The onsite staff made us feel like the only two people on Earth, attending to every need. Their knowledge of the property and area was extremely helpful as well. Most importantly, they were amazingly polite and pleasant people and we enjoyed their company immensely. The views from nearly every vantage point are unlike any I've seen. Staring out at Hope Beach and Mustique over breakfast or while lounging at the pool is already a sight I miss. Truly beautiful. The property itself is simply exquisite. The pool and patio area are perfect for any-time lounging (and a game of cornhole!). I like to cook, and the kitchen is outfitted with every cooking tool/utensil you would ever need. Both dining and living areas are spacious and we enjoyed both meals and relaxation in each. The bedroom and master bath were well sized and comfortable. The activities and culinary experiences on the island are equally fantastic. Snorkling at Devils Table showcases more marine life than many dives I've had. Beaches were gorgeous and not crowded. The turtle sanctuary was informative and inspiring. Meals at Plantation and Bequai Beach resorts were both world class. Overall, this trip was the relaxing, recharging and romantic escape we dreamed it would be and I would recommend to anyone.

Your Own Private Resort - better than home away from home
The villa and team at Sights N Sounds gave us, simply, the best homestay experience we've ever had on a vacation. Our group (two adult couples) enjoyed the space, serenity, privacy, and unparalleled position of the house, which hangs on a cliff overlooking a bay with Mustique in the distance (those pictures of the infinity pool are real - it's that gorgeous). The house is luxuriously but comfortably furnished - beds as comfortable as ours at home (which we never find on vacation) and as fully equipped as your own home would be (which makes sense, because this is the owners' vacation home when they aren't renting it). The house was beyond spacious enough for two couples, and it can also accommodate kids and another adult couple - but we loved it with the four of us. It is very well kept - two onsite caretakers (one of whom supervised the crew that built the house a decade ago) rotate days making sure everything is sparkling clean and in good working order. The kitchen has all the equipment you could want or need - including an espresso machine if you can't leave that habit on the mainland (we couldn't! brought our own coffee with us). We had expected to cook a lot, but one of the magic parts of Sights N Sounds is that the housekeeper Joy is an excellent cook and you can hire her to make dinners for you (which often include enough food for leftovers for the next day's lunch). Joy's food was wonderful - emblematic and representative of the island - and she'll tailor it to "whatever you'd like", as much as possible (subject to what's available at the market and veggie stands in town that day). Two of our party are chefs and they loved every meal she prepared (as did the rest of us - but our chefs always set a high food bar). We went out for exactly zero dinners during our 11 night stay; we did go out to lunch a couple of times but the highlight of those lunches was the beach bar position and the rum punch - nothing close to Joy's food. Bequia itself was a lovely surprise - really out of time and nothing like any of the other islands we've visited. The people are incredibly friendly and seem truly happy to live there. The Belmont Walk beach walk was perfect, we had a great Tobago Keys excursion day, and pretty much just unplugged (except for watching the World Series, which was doable on the house's smart tv) and enjoyed each other's company. We will definitely return and so appreciate the privilege of being able to stay here.

Tranquilty
The house and location were absolutely superb! Beautiful craftsmanship, well appointed, and private. Only about a 10 min ride into Port Elizabeth. The drive to the house is exciting and an AWD vehicle is recommend, since this is true island driving. Tom was easy to communicate with, and he was very helpful as well as the staff at Sights N Sounds. We would definitely return!

Stunning property, beautiful view
This was a wonderful property, the pools, views and grounds were great. Joy took great care of us (fresh baked bread, rolls, banana cake and great meals) could not have been better. The house is perfectly situated overlooking Hope beach and the ocean, if you are looking for a place to unwind and relax this is were you want to go. Bequia is what the Caribbean is supposed to be! Absolutely beautiful !
This house is wonderful in every aspect- the view, the staff(Joy,Felix,Kelson), the pool ,the kitchen, the veranda. The pictures don't do it justice and I tried to capture the beauty of the place by taking my own pictures but you have to be there to fully appreciate it. We would love to go back .Bequia is a charming country, very laid back, not swarming with tourists -our kind of place. About the staff, they were exceptional ! From getting fresh fish(barracuda ) to preparing our dinners and baking a delicious banana/coconut cake we felt very special and taken care of so thanks to Thomas and Angela for allowing us to experience their house in Bequia.

Masterpiece of design, quaility build and high end amenities set in a tropical paradise. Just GO!
Sight N' Sound is amazing in every aspect. From the owners, to the setting, privacy, location, staff, decor, bedding/linens, furnishings, gardens, and home itself we couldn't have had a better experience. Price was quickly forgotten. VRBO owners are either "investors" maximizing profits by minimizing quality, or true owners who create something wonderful and are willing to share as Tom and Angela do They love Bequia and the many years and dollars they've invested planning, designing and building their dream family getaway is evident in the attention to detail and how well it all works. Their focus was on us having a wonderful time and responded quickly to our initial query, readily answered any questions and frequently asked "how can we make it better?" A big binder about the property and the island gave us lots of suggestions. Whatever else we needed to know Joy, Felix and Kelson had the answer. We've never had "staff" before and to us they were Tom and Angela's island family and our hosts. Having them on-site in the guest house at the top of the driveway ensures the house and gardens are constantly maintained, you have a sense of security (even though Bequia is super safe) and you learn a lot about the local culture. Joy is a great cook who works with fresh local ingredients and makes the most amazing bread in the best equipped kitchen we've ever seen. Felix is a master joiner who built the amazing Brazilian Ipe wood shutters, doors, ceilings and floors to perfection. There are 110 and 220 outlets everywhere, WiFi and a complex system of light switches/dimmers to create the ambiance you want inside and out. The main room is a massive 70'x30' opening completely to the wrap around veranda and pool deck which we always did thanks to the prefect Bequia temps. The pool is surrounded by flowering shrubs with the waterfall and different levels of built-in seating... we spent many hours floating, reading and gazing at the waves crashing on Hope Beach below and Mustique in the distance. At night we laid on the big chaise lounges looking for constellations. We especially loved the outdoor stone rainfall showers in the 2 equal master suites and fancy bath robes. Although the property will accommodate more, it is ideal for 2 couples. Note: those with mobility issues will not like the 43 stone steps down from the driveway to the villa entrance. For all the things to do on island read the Bequia forum on TA. Splurge and GO!

Amazing Villa with Spectacular Views
This villa really has it all--most importantly, a truly spectacular view over Hope Beach, which is a lush deserted beach that lies several hundred feet below the villa, with the constant sound of waves breaking on the beach and against the rocks that guard the entrance to the cove. (It's not for swimming, but there are plenty of beaches to drive to close by.) The villa itself is situated and opens in such a way so as to maximize both the breeze off the water and the astounding views. In addition, the villa itself is extremely well-appointed (the linens, furniture, kitchen), so that even the most discerning traveller will be satisfied with the level of luxury. To top it off, the staff at the villa is extraordinary, especially Joy, who cleans every day, is a font of knowledge about the island, and is available to cook simple but tasty meals for a reasonable additional fee. Finally, Bequia is a really special island: there are beautiful beaches, very limited development, and a nice and friendly vibe. We were there a week and loved it. We are a family of four, with two kids ages 14 and 11. The one thing to talk through with the owner, depending on your group, is the layout. For a group of adults or a family with young kids who would sleep in the downstairs bedroom adjacent to their parents, the house works well. I think the same is true for a family with teenagers, who would be happy to be in their own separate space. For kids in between its worth talking through the options to be sure everyone is happy.

Elegant Oasis with a Spectacular View - Highly Recommended!
This is the second time that we've stayed here and we will be back again. This place has it all - from the elegant décor to the friendly and welcoming staff to the amazing disappearing edge pool to the views and sounds. If you're looking for a place where you can kick back, disconnect and relax, than look no further than Sights n Sounds villa. The first time we travelled here, it was just my wife and I. This time, our family grew by 2. The optional black gates around the entire upper deck and pool are an excellent touch and help put your mind at ease about toddlers falling. Miss Joy is amazing and so are Felix, Kelson and the rest of the staff who welcome you daily to make sure that your experience lives up to every expectation. Oh and the showers are outside (very private of course) - but the experience is very calming and tranquil (worth noting that all running water in the house is rain water, pretty neat.) There is a beach directly below the villa that is accessible by a fairly rigorous walk (or run). If you're into running - don't expect to leg out an easy 5 miles - the elevation changes are dramatic but while catching your breath don't forget to take in the views - spectacular! This place is secluded, but is no more than a 10 mins drive to numerous restaurants and beaches (give Friendship Beach a try! and for Dinner - don't miss De Reef or Devil's Table). If you're in to scuba diving - go with Dive Bequia - Bob and Cathy are extremely helpful and the boat and equipment was all up to date and clean. Would highly recommend Sights n Sounds - we will definitely be back!

Beautiful home with all the bells and whistles!
We have been so impressed with the property and staff, they are always available to help. Everything is spotlessly clean and very well maintained. The grounds are lush with beautiful flowers, trees and fruit trees. There is so much to do here, that we need more time to see everything. So far we have gone to DeReef beach and had terrific fresh tuna sandwiches and sat on the beach, took a trip on the ferry to see the Montreal Gardens, walking along the harbor in Bequia to look in the shops, and we still have much more to do. Spendings several days on the property relaxing in the Pool, just enjoying the quiet. We will go to Bequia beach and have lunch and enjoy their beach and eat at their restaurant. We also enjoyed cooking several meals in the terrific kitchen here and eating on the veranda while enjoying the ocean sounds and view. This is a wonderful place to be, especially to escape the cold winters and just enjoy everything this property and island have to offer.

About the host

Hosted by Thomas Smith

Host profile image
Angela and Tom live in Baltimore MD with their two sons ages 14 and 8. Both sons love, love, love coming to Bequia and made their first trip to Bequia when they were 2 months old. They enjoy being at Sights'n Sounds so much that many days they refuse to leave for the beach, preferring to stay at the villa and swim/play in the pool.

Angela and Tom designed, built and furnished Sights'n Sounds over a period of about 4 years. We christened Sights'n Sounds over New Years 2006. Every decision and detail was meticulously scrutinized and managed. Tom even made an on-site visit to the rain forests of Brazil to hand-pick the Ipe' lumber for construction.

Angela's sophisticated eye for design and attention to detail is evident in the harmony of the home and its furnishings. The home is elegant, yet comfortable and warm. Caribbean festive colors are used as accents and not overpowering. Colonial plantation style hardwood pieces are mixed with coastal living style slip covers and wicker.

We love for guests and families to be able to experience the special joy that Sights'n Sounds and Hope Bay bring to us.

Why they chose this property

The first time Tom visited Bequia he was a guest of the owners of Hope Estate. It was, literally, love a first sight. He decided the first morning he saw the sun rise over Hope Bay that he would own a property on that very spot. Several years later he purchased the land under Sights'n Sounds. He struggled for an entire week to decide between buying on the leeward side of Hope Point which overlooks Hope Bay, or the Windward side of Hope Point that overlooks the north side of Bequia island. Each day, he spent hours traversing from one side to the other, walking the property and gazing over the horizon. Finally, on his last night, after consuming possibly an entire bottle of rum, he decided it might be a good idea to survey the properties at night. At 1:00am in the morning, he inspected both lots, and as he was navigating the steep terrain he tripped and broke his glasses. He realized the next morning that perhaps breaking his glasses was a sign, and that instead of just looking at the lots, that he should focus on using his other senses to make a decision. So he went back out to the lots his last day on Bequia, stood on each parcel, closed his eyes and listened. The choice became immediately clear. The soft breeze rustling the tall trees that adorn the leeward side of Hope point. The steady cadence of the surf crashing on Hope Beach 350 feet below. The birds in the trees. And the peaceful silence.......Sights'n Sounds.

What makes this property unique

Sights'n Sounds on Hope estate is very private, yet convenient to town and Bequia's leeward beaches. We have not seen another home on Bequia which is furnished and equipped in quality that rivals Sights'n Sounds. The home is also designed to be family friendly and safe for young children.

Finally, there is no better staff on Bequia than Joy and Felix Hutchins, and Kelson. Joy will pamper you as if you were staying at the Four Seasons. Felix will insure that everything works and if you break it, he'll fix it. Felix actually built the house; really. So there is nothing you can break that he can't fix.
