It was more than we anticipated. Beautiful view the boats on the water. The homes on the other side of the channel. The home is spacious and very comfortable. Kitchen had everything we needed. Trash disposal was a blessing. We'd be very excited to stay here again.
The first floor layout is nicely open with lots of windows for wonderful summer breezes & views along with nice older home with beautiful hardwood floors. A short walk to the Cribstone Bridge and the Salt Cod Cafe was nice. The house could use some updating with the bathrooms and resetting some of the doors that wouldn't stay shut tight as well as new silverware. Although there was not a gas grill immediately available, a text to the owner resulted in a quick response and her and her daughter brought over a smaller size propane grill and because of the well water, they provided cases of bottled water. Most anything you would need is a short 20-minute drive to major grocery stores, restaurants, ice cream shop and more.
A great getaway for those just wanting to relax and enjoy the view.
This was a very old home with many antique furniture pieces but very well maintained. Clean, comfortable and equipped with anything you could need. A great location with spectacular views. Our host was very friendly and helpful with any information we needed. Would definately stay again or recommend to others.
Quaint, vintage, historic home! 3 season porch was so comfortable and several spaces to enjoy the view! Great location to check out the area! Great food close. Just wish we had been earlie to enjoy the Salt Cod cafe more'
The location of this cottage overlooking Harpswell sound is wonderful. The schooners coming back in at sunset, so beautiful. And you can't beat the scones and muffins from Salt Cod Cafe, which is basically in the backyard of the cottage. The only improvement for us, both being tall, would be one queen size bed 🙂 .
Third time we've stayed at the Bea House. It's clean, comfortable and close to everything. Walking distance to the Salt Cod Cafe which has the best scones and to the Cribstone Bridge. My 7 year old granddaughter loves "the red house" and was sad we had to leave.
We LOVED this quiet island retreat for our trip to Maine. The 1913 house gave a rustic, tucked-in vibe. Beds were comfy, adequate storage. 1 full bath +1 toilet room worked for us. Our favorite nightly perch was the back porch overlooking the ocean. Easy meal prep in the full kitchen- a few ants but controlled. While the house sits very close to the road, very little road noise. Probably not appropriate for young kids who might run out into road. Very hilly with no shoulders on road- watch where you walk, not bike friendly. Next door is a lovely bakery and outfitter for kayak rentals. It's 3 miles over the bridge from Orr's Island to the end of the Bailey Island. We explored the Great Steps on Bailey Island and made several trips to nearby Bowdoin College(Gelato Fiasco on Main st) for their Art, Artic museums & ocean center. Boothbay Harbor and Portland are a quick 30 min drive. Many great restaurants in the area. Close to nearby Bath, Harpswell, Freeport. Awesome lobster rolls in Wicasset. Stayed in Bar Harbor overnight for 2 day trip to Acadia National Park so we wouldn't have to trek the 3 hrs back. Outdoor parking next to house for up to 2 cars. Met the lovely owner and learned more history of the area. Bring extra fans to cool bedrooms; not a problem in fall. Would definitely return!!
This spacious and well-kept home was extremely clean, with comfortable furnishings and numerous places to relax and unwind. The enclosed rear porch overlooking rhe water was a favorite spot for both morning cofee and evening cocktails. The owner supplies everything needed for a very pleasant stay and was responsive but unobtrusive.
I highly recommend the Bea House it for an authentic Maine seaside vacation.
As soon as we walked in the door we knew we would love this place. It was a great deal based on location and size of the home. The house has a lot of character with the beautiful hardwood floors throughout, the furniture, bedrooms, and lovely enclosed sunroom. It was VERY clean and the communication with the owner couldn’t be better. If you stay here, you MUST try the scones from the Salt Cod Cafe which is just a short walk away. We hope to be coming back and would definitely stay here again.
The house was very clean and attractively furnished. Older house all the more enjoyable. Good for families! Swimming, rock climbing, fishing nearby. We loved our time spent at Bea House.
This is a beautiful property, right on the inlet on Orr's island Maine. The view alone is worth the entire 13 hour drive from Pennsylvania, and the house is charming and very clean and well kept. I spent much of my time there on the large screened-in porch, taking in the kind of view that I imagine it would take several of me to actually afford to own! No matter, for the property is reasonably priced - a bargain considering the location! We'll be back, for sure.
The Bea House was just as described. It was charming, beautiful, and had everything we needed to set up house for a week. There was plenty of room for 2 couples, lovely outdoor dining on the enclosed screened porch overlooking the water and boats, beautiful sunsets, comfortable beds. And, right next door was the Salt Cod Cafe, which had the most fabulous, delicious homemade scones, muffins, and clam chowder in Maine! The owner and her daughter are lovely people. I would recommend Bea House if you're looking for a homey place to stay while in Orrs Island/Bailey Island. It was wonderful!
The Bea House was in a perfect location with beautiful sunset water views. The cribs tone bridge is steps away with opportunities for finding sea glass at low tide. The Salt Cod cafe makes amazing scones and sandwiches. The owner lives next door and always available to answer questions. Great time!
This house is lovely with a wonderful view and a relaxing screened porch to watch the sunset over the water. The bedrooms were roomy and comfortable with plenty of windows and nice views. The kitchen was just right and the living area was nicely set up. Overall a great house, I would love to come back for another visit.
We loved our stay at Orr's Island!
The house was clean and comfortable for our family of 5.
We absolutely love the porch and view of the cove/harbor!
Although it's on the main road it gets quiet after 8pm or so.
We loved being able to walk out the backyard to the Salt Cod; great scones and sandwiches. There are many hikes available; check out Harpswell recreation guide. Next to the Salt Cod is H2Outfitters for kayaks; we intended to go but so many thing to do. Some recommendations.
Wish the house had more fans.
For visitors plan on ordering dinner early from Cook's Lobster and Ale house as the wait on the first night was 1 1/2 hours. Other places to have an evening meal are about 1/2 hour away. Island Candy store has ice cream; a few minutes away.
We wish the house had laundry the nearest laundry is about 1/2 hour away in Brunswick.
All in all though this house and view is absolutely amazing!
Our stay at Marilyn's property was amazing. The location was perfect for us and we had fun exploring the many trails over Orr's Island, Bailey Island and Harpswell. The Salt Cod cafe was a daily breakfast spot for us. We loved the Giant Stairs trail and even saw a sea otter. The islands were easy to navigate and filled with fun little coves and beaches. We would certainly return again.
The location of the home is great to have access to Orr’s and Bailey Island.
We rented this house last minute and liked the location. It is steps away from the Cribstone Bridge and the Salt Cod Cafe. It has a three season porch where you can see wonderful sunsets. It was worth the price and was what we we’re looking for. The only caution I would say is if you have small children or a dog, the house is very close to the road. This did not bother us at all because we have teenagers.
We had a lovely time at Marilyn's house on Orr's Island. I loved the old/ antique furniture, which was not, however, such that one worries constantly about spills, etc. It was just a lovely seaside cottage escape. The kitchen was well-equipped.
