We were looking for a quiet relaxing weekend getaway and this location did not disappoint. George and Kathy were wonderful hosts. The cabin was impeccable and the views on the property were so beautiful. We enjoyed walks in the property, a warm fire by the fire pit and morning coffees on the front porch. We will definitely be back.

Wonderful stay at a Charming cabin

We spent just two days at this charming cabin, but we truly cherished every moment. Our hosts, George and Kathy, were incredibly welcoming. The views were stunning, and the area was so peaceful. We loved relaxing on the front porch, soaking in the sounds of nature, and exploring the nearby towns of McDowell and Monterey. We enjoyed the beautiful mountains and the colors of the coming fall. Our time at the Hogshesd cabin was amazing , and we would happily return for another visit down the road .

Last hurrah of summer

Stayed with my family in the adorable cabin. It was clean and comfortable, and the hosts were super nice and helpful. The area was very remote and peaceful. Make sure to bring your own food as there's not a lot of restaurants or shopping close by. Would definitely visit again.

Oasis of peace

My daughter and I (and our two Corgis) loved the cabin and its surroundings. We live in noisy suburbia and the absence of man-made noise was wonderful. The only noise we heard was from birds and insects, and the occasional moo. The cabin was exactly as advertised, and George and Kathy were wonderful hosts!

Tranquility and picturesque views

We enjoyed the cabin very much. We loved the historical charm with modern amenities. We loved going on the walks with kids and our dogs. dogs loved it too. We enjoyed the fireplace and the fire pit. The cabin is about an hour drive to Snowshoe skiing and about the same distance to Charlottesville, which is nice city to visit (Jefferson’s Monticello is near by) so the location is good for us as you can explore things around within an hour or less of driving. Kathy and George are wonderful hosts and were quick to respond to any of our inquiries. We definitely will book again!

Hard to find a better cabin

Need a mental reset? This is the place to come. It is so peaceful here. George & Kathy are wonderful hosts and have made the cabin very cozy. Perfectly decorated. My wife and I loved hearing the rain patter on the metal roof and seeing the deer bedded out back in the morning. It's just a wonderful place to clear your head from the fast paced modern world. I would recommend taking a little drive around the area. Highland County offers some stunning views. While out, grab a bite to eat at a local joint in Monterey call High's Restaurant. All in all, Hogshead Cabin is a getaway that won't disappoint.

A little Slice of Heaven

My wife and I vacation every year. Or normal locations are either North Carolina or Tennessee. We decided to take a chance when we saw this cabin and we are so glad we did. The cabin is nothing less than perfect. The craftsmanship level used reconstruct this old log cabin blew my mind. The property was tranquil and the scenery during drive to the cabin was just as beautiful. I felt like we stepped back in time. If you like crowded theme parks or tourest traps, this is not for you. If you want a relaxing vacation with picturesque views everywhere you look, won't think twice about booking this cabin. Pictures Do Not come close to the in person experience. We will be returning! If you do decide to book this cabin, take every side road you can. Visit every little town around you. Roll down your windows and take your time to take it all in. Read the guest book and everything you need to know is in it. My only complaint is we didn't stay longer. Thank You Mr. Hogshead for making this available.

Quiet, Historic Cabin - We lived on the Front Porch +

The quiet, peacefulness of the area, and the modern amenities of the cabin far exceeded our expectations. The hosts, George and Kathy, were next door for anything we needed. We were their first guests staying for a period of 8 days. They made arrangements half-way through our stay for trash pickup. I usually don't like cabins with streaming services because they depend on you to have a streaming service. However, the cabin had a variety of streaming services that we could watch, without having to belong to one. Most of the time, we were outdoors. When we were back at the cabin, we ate 6 of our 8 meals there, utilizing the gas grill. They had all the necessary equipment for it as well. We enjoyed seeing deer in the area. We also saw a black bear on our way back to the cabin one evening. The cabin's location was perfect for our trips to the Cass Scenic Railroad for the Parade of Steam and a ride on the train to Bald Knob. The cabin was about an hour from antique stores, and a further drive to Shenandoah National Park. We also did day trips to Crabtree Falls (1 and 1/2 hours) and Falling Spring Falls and Humpback Bridge in Covington. The hardest part about staying in McDowell is that you need to travel about an hour either way to get something good to eat if you don't eat at the cabin. I overlooked the fact that the cabin didn't have a washer and dryer, but that wasn't a deal breaker. Storage was in short supply with the amount of days we stayed, but we made do.
