Welcome to Ella's Inn in beautiful Grand Marais. This charming classic bungalow is located two blocks from the Grand Marais harbor and within walking distance to everything Grand Marais has to offer.

Our focus is to provide our guests an 'at home' feeling with clean and comfortable accommodations at a value price. A fully equipped kitchen, living room, dining room, three bathrooms and five bedrooms allow you to make Ella's Inn your home away from home.

Due to allergies, Ella's does NOT accept pets. Thank you.

Repeat guest of Ella’s Inn
This was at least the fourth time that friends of mine and I have stayed at Ella’s Inn while on our annual skiing/hiking trip. As always Ella’s was a great place to stay. The house had everything we needed and was conveniently located to restaurants in downtown Grand Marais. We’ll definitely plan on coming back again.

The perfect family spot
Every fall, our family takes a trip to Grand Marais. This is the first year we stayed at Ella's Inn and it was perfect! The property was spotless and well stocked and Lori was an extraordinary host. We had a little ones who needed a nap and it happened to work out that we could check in a bit early. We loved the family space and the abundance of bedrooms. We hope to return next fall.

Ella’s Inn was the perfect spot for out multi-generational family. The location at the base of the Gunfint Trail and within walking distance to Grand Marais made for easy access to a variety of activities and restaurants. Looking forward to another stay.

Stayed here with some friends for a multi-day ski trip to Lutsen. Great location in town that's walking distance from everything you need, and only a 20 min drive from Lutsen.

We loved Ella’s inn. It was very close to downtown Grand Marais, everything was accessible. We also liked that it has a well-stocked kitchen. The house is perfect for families and friends of all ages. We’ll stay here again if/when we go back to Grand Marais.

Perfect Grand Marais getaway!
We were extremely impressed with this property. It was perfectly maintained and clean, it had everything we needed, and it was very convenient to everything in Grand Marais. The house has a lot of charm and warmth which is why we liked it so much. One of our favorite VRBOs...and we've stayed at a lot of places.

Family of 6 - grandparents stayed on first floor; parents and 2 kids used 3 bedrooms upstairs. Enjoyed the living room, dining room and kitchen areas, all worked well for us. We walked everywhere the 4 days of our stay - never got in the car.

If you are looking for a place for couples this is it!! 8 of us stayed and there was plenty of room. Clean darling place and great location for our snowmobile group. We will be back!!

Owners Terry and Lori Backlund have been married since August 2007. Both have had long family histories that tie them to Grand Marais. Terry is co-founder of Sven and Ole's and current owner/broker of Backlund Realty. After a long career with General Motors, Lori finally made her move to Grand Marais.

We both enjoy skiing, tennis, golf and most of all, riding our Harleys.

Why they chose this property

Grand Marais has a unique vibe rarely found in a town of this size. Grand Marais places a premium on culture. The community's Arrowhead Center for the Arts hosts performances ranging from locally produced plays to national recording artists. The renowned North House Folk School attracts students from across the country with its curriculum of folk arts and crafts and construction skills. Founded in 1947, the Grand Marais Art Colony is the oldest art colony in the state. The Johnson Heritage post has continuous showings of works by local and regional artists.

Ella's Inn is only two to four blocks from most attractions including great dining, shopping and picturesque harbor views.

The historical significance paired with the location makes Ella's Inn the perfect place to call home while in Grand Marais.
