Spacious, cheery and at-home feel!
For anyone who likes seasoned lake cabins you will love the Little Red Cabin's spacious open living area. The outdoors flows right inside through the new framed windows on all three sides cheering your stay. The kitchen is well stocked and the Living Room has plenty of choice seating. Beds are comfortable for good sleep. The long yard to the tiny beach area was perfect for hitting our golf balls and blowing bubbles. Thanks Mark Swedlund for making the cabin available to us three oldsters. We felt right at home. The Schmalz Family

A good VRBO for those just starting to upgrade from camper or tent
The view is lovely. This property would have been ideal for a family with large number of children. The property is geared towards families. We were a little disappointed with a few things. We are older 60+ so our expectations were a little higher. I expected not to have internet, because I confirmed that with the host prior to arrival. We were disappointed; however that not even our cell phones worked. No signal whatsoever. That would have been fine but there was no weather radio provided either. The note on the fridge said to use our car radio in severe weather. I know others in the area and know that internet service is a minimal cost and a radio would be a cheap investment. There was also a large number of carpenter ants and spiders that inhabit the cabin. It’s an older cabin but we were not used to sharing the couch or bed with these critters when we rent a cabin. The vacuum cleaner didn’t work so when we arrived there were crumbs on the carpet and under furniture. I would tell the owner to spot check cleaning service. It was hard to use a charcoal grill in the rain. A sheltered area or a gas grill would have been better. The dock is not set up as well as it could be for your boat. There is a crank right in the middle that scratches your boat when you tie to the dock. Finally as an older person who has knee issues I would have appreciated hand rails for the steps going up to the porch. As I said this is a great “starter cabin” for those just upgrading from camping outs

Love this place!
This was our fourth year in a row visiting this cabin, so clearly we love it! Perfect for our two families with kids. Plenty for all ages to enjoy! Large flat lawn for games, sandy beach for play, clean clear lake water, platform a short swim away for jumping in the lake, paddle boat to get on the water, wooded area for fort building, and lots of wildlife to be seen to list some of our favorites. Classic and clean Minnesota cabin stocked with most things you will need. Also nice to have two refrigerators and air conditioning. We will keep coming back as long as they let us!

Love this place
This is our third year in a row at this place, so clearly we love it. Big flat grassy yard, sandy beach, quiet area. Fishing off the dock, frog hunting, yard games, jumping off the swim platform, paddle boat rides, "hikes" in the small wooded area with the kiddos. If you love the outdoors, you will love this place.

Love this place!
Second year visiting the cabin. Improvements made from last year were excellent (second fridge, air conditioner, more seating in living room). We missed the bunk bed, but still made it work with 4 adults and 4 kids under 11. Wonderful sand beach, flat grassy walk down to the beach, lots of wildlife. Cabin is clean and has kitchen supplies, games, beach toys, paddle boat, canoe. Everything we needed for a wonderful relaxing vacation!

We had a great time. The kitchen had everything that we could have wanted and I can't say enough about the crystal clear and warm lake, not to mention the amenities like the canoe and swimming dock. It was amazing.

Great little getaway
We were looking for a somewhat last minute getaway for our family where we could bring our dog and this fit the bill. The kids loved fishing off the dock and we caught plenty of sunnies, a couple bass, a dog fish, and an unknown fish. We swam every day, the whether was perfect! The wildlife was great. We saw deer in the yard almost nightly, a woodchuck, and tons of frogs and toads in the pond. The paddleboat had a hole unfortunately but there was still plenty to do with the large yard, canoe, and swimming. We went into both Remer and Longville and had good experiences there. Mark made many small things available like some condiments, plenty of spices, coffee, first aid supplies. The cleanliness was not perfect but still adequate in my opinion since there were very little fees involved for cleaning or pets. Loved the relaxed feel and cute cabin Mark!

Awesome summer break
This ranks as one of the best cabin vacations we've had. The cabin was spacious enough for all of us (2 adults, 4 young kids) and had everything we needed. The open layout made it easy for the kids to hang out in when taking a break from the water. Plenty of lawn space for the kids to play football, baseball, soccer, etc. We most of our time down at the beach and in the water. Fishing was brilliant- we didn't even bother to try out the rest of the lake. Plenty of 2-4 lb Largemouth, with a couple 5 pounders. Plus sunnies easy to catch for the younger kids right off the dock. We went during the week, so it was pretty quiet, too. Lots of wild life (deer, woodchucks, loons, otters, etc).

Perfect fit for our family of 8!
My husband and I took our 6 boys on a fishing trip. The cabin was a perfect fit for all 8 of us. Our children range in age from 1 to 13 years old. The older boys enjoyed the paddle boat and had a great time fishing from the dock. Thanks again Swedlunds!

Classic cabin
We have small kids, and this was just what we were looking for. Nice sandy beach with minimal weeds to right of dock. Lots of fish, frogs, turtles, deer and birds for the kids to marvel at. Long, sloping grass area makes it easy for kids to walk to water, but is far enough there's no fear they'll get to the water before you notice. Paddle boat, canoe and swim platform provide lots of fun. Large great room with DVD player for quiet time. Great family cabin!

Relaxing Family Getaway
We really enjoyed our time at the cabin. It was quiet, we all had fun on the lake, loved seeing all the deer and wildlife. Local bait shop helped us get what we needed to catch some big bass. Overall a great trip. The only thing I would suggest would be a weather radio or something. We got no cell service in the cabin (which was fine), but without a TV either it was hard to know what was happening with any severe weather in the area. Thank you for the hospitality!

Remote Minnesota Getaway
The Cabin was very clean - on a beautiful lake, the fishing was pretty good. Not much Dock space, but we made it work. We ran into an issue and the owners did everything they could to get it fixed, under the circumstances we were very happy with all they did to help. Thanks Mark for all of your efforts.

Wonderful Rustic getaway cabin
We had such a blast at Mark's cabin! Listing was super accurate. Cabin is rustic, but cozy. Plenty of sleeping room and everything was clean. Do make sure to bring your own water for drinking as the well water is pretty mineraly. Don't plan for a spa level or hot shower experience, rustic, like I said. The cabin was well stocked with everything you'd need for cooking, and even some bug spray and the like. Pantry even had some things available for guests. Thunder lake is beautiful! We didn't do any fishing but saw plenty just off the dock. Beach at the property is pretty weedy, however there's a sun deck floating out from the dock away from the weeds that was fun to swim out to and jump from, as well as a really nice sand bar we were able to boat to across the lake. Mark was a wonderful host, friendly and quick/polite with communication. Would stay again!

Overall Great Week
The fishing was great! Pretty much everything the lake has to offer right off the dock! Weather was great! Cabin has basically everything you need! I would have to say it is time for some updates, the cabin was very hot only some windows open, air conditioner doesn’t cool barely if at all, not a big deal. We spent most of our time on the lake or the beach. Mainly at night was when it noticed. The dock is also very hard to tie up a boat to with pontoon and lift on one side, and the other side doesn’t have enough poles to tie both ends of the boat up on a windy day. If you dock on the beach, that takes up most of the properties beach. But overall it was a very good week! Thanks for having us!

Great stay
What a wonderful time we had. We never took our boat out, 1 because it was too windy and 2 because we never needed to. Caught keepers right off the dock! Kids loved that! It was charming and comfortable. Definitely a great spot!

About the host

We grew up on a lake and yearned to get back. After 5 years of looking, we found the right piece of property on Thunder Lake. Large lot for our growing family. Smaller, easy to maintain, well built one owner cabin. Quiet end of road location. Sand beach and a small pond. One look and we were home.

Why they chose this property

We chose this area for the up north location, but still under 3 hours from home. Have friends on the lake and decided Thunder Lake was our first choice. Golf, hunting, snowmobiling, fishing, shopping etc. are all close by.

What makes this property unique

Semi seclusion and quiet. Perfect setting for morning sunrise and sunset. Large 2 acre lot with private pond. Sand beach. Swimming raft. Very clean water. Boundary waters feel. Can boat to the Deerhaven Supper Club and popular lake sand bar for more swimming & sun bathing.
