Visited MN to celebrate Christmas with family. This home is the best. Very clean and lots of amenities added to make the stay fantastic! We will be back in July to enjoy a summer visit.
Friends long weekend get away!! What a beautiful cabin. I would give this cabin 10 stars. Everything you need and more! Had a blast!! Would love to stay again!!
Whenever we rent a place we always wonder if the property has this or that, and we usually end up taking many more things than needed. Michael has thought of everything that a renter could possibly need. The kitchen is equipped with everything from appliances such as a Keurig, air fryer, big toaster, and slow cooker to name a few, and plenty of dishware to prepare and eat meals for our group. The layout is very nice and includes separated areas that allowed the kids to nap and the adults to continue their activities. There is a nice area in the second level with a desk and printer for when we needed to do check in at work. The lot is large and private with no noise from neighboring properties and includes multiple outdoor seating areas on the large deck and the lawn. The lake was quiet and great for paddle boarding and kayaking. The linens and towels were hotel quality and even included a rack of beach towels by the patio door for when we went to the lake. This rental is without a doubt one of the nicest we have stayed at would definitely use again.
The Kimball house has everything that is needed for a memorable get-away. We booked the house because of the accessibility with the ramp and first floor bedroom/bathroom. The small touches are what truly won us over. The house is very well taken care of with perfectly thought of upgrades and amenities. The first day was rainy but that was okay as the house has it all. We hung out in the basement, played darts, pac-man, and poker in the game room and bar area. The next day was beautiful so took advantage of the beautiful outdoor space. The owner had paddleboards and kayaks ready to use, along with the firepit prepped with wood for evening relaxation. There were so many thoughtful "extras" from the reading glasses and extra chargers (which both came in handy) to the bottled water for those who may not like well water. The cabinets in kitchen are all labeled, and the large supply of spices came in handy for one of our meals. The owner has thought of it all! Thank you for making our stay enjoyable and being available (via text) to ensure we had a great experience.
My husband and I rented this cabin for a family reunion and bonfire and we had a fantastic time. Everything was clean, easy to access, lots of parking, and absolutely beautiful. Michael has provided EVERYTHING you could need or think of. There were even bath bombs by the jacuzzi tub! Making supper was so easy, the kitchen has all the equipment and utensils literally all I had to do was bring the food. There's even complimentary coffee! The backyard was a real treat with plenty of space around the bonfire and outdoor games. Nothing ever felt cramped. Something my back really appreciated is corner weren't cut with the quality of the mattress either, normally I get stiff when we travel but this bed was perfect.
10/10 my husband and I are already looking to book again sometime this winter.

About the host
Hosted by Michael Vickerman
Born and raised in the Orono, Minnesota, I currently split my time in Los Angeles where I write and produce movies. All of my family, as well as friends I've know since kindergarten, live in the Twin Cities area so I get back to my lake house in Maple Plain often and continue to feel incredibly connected to the Twin Cities community.
Why they chose this property
Having other rental properties, I was looking for someplace on a lake with enough land to make it feel private, yet not so remote that it wouldn't offer great activities nearby. After renovating both the inside and the property itself, it has become the best of both worlds, especially with Powder Ridge just around the corner. What I didn't expect was to fall in love with the area and find this charming cottage to be as much of a retreat as if I had driven three or four hours up north!
What makes this property unique
My goal was to create an environment where guests would feel like they've escaped from their world, somewhere up north with all the benefits of being far away, but not having to drive that far. Mission accomplished. With Powder Ridge only five minutes away, golf and restaurants nearby, there is plenty to do. Yet the most appealing part of staying at the Kimball House is probably just to stay put! I've come to love this place - it rejuvenates my soul and I'm sure it will rejuvenate yours as well.
