About this property

Up-Island Treehouse with Roofdeck and Waterviews

Welcome to our getaway. The Up-Island Treehouse offers an open, light-filled and breezy spot on the western tip of Martha's Vineyard. Here you can relax and unwind in comfort and take your time to enjoy waterviews, birdsong and the pleasure of lazing a day away in a hammock. With decks on three levels, the house affords our guests time apart and time together; time in the sun and time in the shade. Our treehouse, as its name implies, is hidden in the trees and situated on 2 acres with old stone walls and a stream on the property. Guests enjoy lunches and dinners on the main deck,; sunsets on the roofdeck; an open and inviting master bedroom with full ensuite bath and easy proximity to Aquinnah's beaches. The house has 2 bedrooms and 1 1/2 baths. The master loft boasts a Schifman queen and quality linens and the first level boasts a well-placed open air outdoor shower that our guests describe as special. The house is biking distance to all Gay Head beaches and includes permission to access Philbin Beach passes. Wifi is included.

During Covid, the house will be unoccupied for 2 days between renters. The house will be professionally cleaned before guests' arrival.

Peaceful Quiet and Relaxing

Very comfortable home that is true to the photos and description. Up island is the place to be to avoid any kind of crowd. Period. We made use of the available Philbin Beach pass. I highly recommend acquiring the car pass. Fantastic beach. No crowds any day we were there. Menemsha is a 10 minute bike ride and a quick hop on the bike ferry, our favorite lunch/dinner spot. Comfy beds, a well stocked kitchen, plenty of outdoor space including the huge roof deck and a great main floor for gathering provided the perfect setting for our group. Dana was a pleasure to deal with and responded to questions re: our rental before and during our stay in a friendly and concerned manner. So glad we visited!

Lovely part of the island

Great house, great roof deck. Just right for us. Some of the things I liked...Had breakfast at the cliffs. Biked everywhere. Went to Larsen's. Went back to Larsen's. Sunsets at Lobsterville beach, swimming at Philbin. Pizza at the Chilmark store. Grilling on the deck.

Wonderful, quiet Up-Island retreat!

"Five star experience all around. This was my second time renting Dana's place. Aquinnah is a stunning summer destination and the Up-Island Treehouse was just as described. The beds were comfortable, the house was spotless and the roofeck was wonderful. We hope to return again next year!

Great home on quite part of the island.

We have stayed in Martha's Vineyard many times in the past but never on Up island. The home is very secluded and private with a roof top deck with views of the Ocean. Walking distance to beach and a short bike ride to menemsha Bike ferry. We stayed the week of July 4th and you would never known that there was that many people visiting the island. Dana and Steve (owners) were very easy to work with. Home is very well stocked. They even surprised us with a gift upon our arrival. We strongly suggest this home if visiting the island looking to just relax.

A little piece of heaven!

This multi-level house is airy, modern and fun. It had everything we needed. Great location and amenities. It's called the "Aquinnah Treehouse" and it was lovely to hang out on the rooftop deck among the treetops. We especially enjoyed practicing yoga and stargazing at night on the roof. We have stayed in several houses up island and this one is our favorite. The owners are extremely nice. Very caring, attentive and appreciative of our business. It was a fabulous experience and we hope to return soon. Thank you, Dana and Steven!

Great Location and Roof Deck!

This is a very nice, multi-level home in Aquinnah. It is just a few minutes drive to either the Gay Head beach (public) or Philbin Beach (private). In fact, Gay Head beach is only a 15 minute walk. The home is clean, comfortable and decently equipped (except for the lack of internet) and it has a large, very private roof deck with great water views. The owners are wonderful people who really care! I would give it 4.5 stars if that was possible!

About the host

Host profile image
I live and work in Boston, Massachusetts. I like to read, hike, cook. On the island I bike and rollerblade and try to get to Philbin around 3 in the afternoon. Some of my favorite things about Martha's Vineyard are Squibnocket Beach, Menemsha, the West Tisbury Farmer's Market, the farms and pasture lands and the birdsong.

Why they chose this property

We bought this house at a time of real estate mayham on the island. There were few (or no) shared real estate listings and we were led to believe that this was the only home in Gay Head for sale in our price range. It was a headache of a purchase but we persisted. It is quiet, there are a million stars at night, Philbin Beach is beautiful. We bought this house from Nancy Dwyer who was the original owner of the house.

What makes this property unique

The entire house is unique. It has a fun layout with a master bedroom loft. It has a great (though finicky) stove and the open kitchen/dining living area has a spacious, inviting feel. There is 2-acre zoning in the area and only 2 neighbors drive beyond our house to get to their houses.
