Return visitors - Love it just as much

Love the location, the privacy, access to 3 kayaks, plenty of chairs etc. our favorite watering hole in Texas and still fantastic even in this drought. House has everything you need except bath soap which we always forget.

Fabulous Lake Nueces Cabin

We loved this cabin. It’s across from the lake/river (short walk or you can drive your water toys to the private dock/swim area. There’s a lovely tree filled yard, great outdoor seating, high quality grill, swing, everything one could need. We cooked and grilled every day; kitchen is huge and well designed to entertain. They have a very nice coffee bar, blender, toaster, everything you need! Beds were very comfortable and everyone rested very well. Definitely happy to return…only complaint was we didn’t stay long enough!

Best little secluded lake in Texas

We had an exceptionally awesome time at this waterfront (100 yards) property with wonderful shaded patio and grill and very spacious small house. Lots of amenities and very well kept. Officer next door , so very safe. I brought my Hobie Kayak and fished all day. Never had a lane all to myself basically. Wonderful hosts and friendly management. Will definitely be coming back.

Wonderful time on the River!

We had a wonderful time! The house was lovely, very clean and comfortable. We enjoyed the river, had fun canoeing, swimming and lounging on tubes. The river access is across the street from house, but it was not bad we loaded up our truck and parked out by the dock on the river. We set up canopy and chairs. There is a fire pit out there, but if you want to cook by the river you may consider taking a small grill. (May check with owner if that is allowed) It was a plus that the owners provided canoes, paddles and chairs. We enjoyed our stay and highly recommend this property. Thank you!

Misled on the Nueces

I choose this house because the description made us feel like the house was very near the water, which would be perfect for our elderly aunt. Later, I saw other reviews telling the truth. However the dock is across the street and 130 yards away. Twice we saw the owner peeking over the fence at us and not speaking to us. Overall, the house was fine, the location of the river is left out of the description.

Secret slice of paradise

This was my first trip to Camp Wood and it turned out to be an amazing place. Nueces River is truly as clear and pristine as the photos look. We actually went snorkeling in it! This had to be the best body of water in Texas. On top of that, the place is very comfortable and the owner Doug (who lives next door) is super helpful and friendly. We will be back

House great with river close by

House was fantastic - amenities were great. Only misleading part is picture online gives the impression that the house is right off the river - which it is not. The river is off his property and there is good river access - but you do have to walk down to the river a bit. Also - the river is not as clear after a major rain. But even after major rain if you go up the river in the kayaks and John boat - you will find some clear water near the mini rapids. One other thing - there are no real great close eating or shopping places, as Uvalde is 30 miles away. The closest town really only had a dollar general with spiked prices. So, recommend to bring your food with you on this trip and plan on eating at the house the whole time. House has a wonderful front yard with great BBQ setup and even night lights. Overall - great place to come to do some river exploring and family relax time at the house.

Wonderful time

We loved our stay at this property. It was clean and quiet and exactly as advertised. The owners provided an abundance of linens and blankets. The air conditioning units worked perfectly. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you could need. The private dock was great and it was so wonderful the owners provide kayaks and a boat to explore with. The front yard is spacious with a comfortable patio and bench swing, even the neighbor's sweet little puppies came to entertain my children. My children absolutely loved this trip, and we did too.

Perfect Family getaway

My husband and I stayed along with our 6 teenagers. The house and property was beautiful and well stocked both inside and out. The water was just a short walk front of home and the lake did not disappoint! As we nervously passed dried up rivers/creeks on the way there, we were relieved to see a beautiful lake upon arrival. The home was comfortable except for one of the guest rooms which stayed very warm for some reason. The master has its own air conditioning and the rest of the house was perfect. From what we saw, Camp Wood is extremely small and this was probably the prettiest place to stay in the whole town. Pack lots of groceries bc there is not much as far as restaurants or stores within 30 minutes. The outdoor patio and cook area was a perfect setting for evening cookouts and the kids loved kayacking, jumping off rock, and floating in the beautiful clear water. LOVE, LOVE,LOVED it!

Our annual family/friend vacation for 3 years now

We love this place. We bring 4 adults, 4 teenagers, and 2 children every year. There's something for everyone to do. The kids will take off fishing/swimming/cliff jumping/kayaking/snorkeling without concern. There are no motorized watercraft allowed in this area and it is very close to the dam which keeps the water level relatively constant even with drought. There is very little traffic off the dock area and further downstream. If you go up by the dam/bridge this is a public/party area and is very busy especially during the holidays but it does not interfere with where this property is located. Neighbors are quiet and to themselves. One works for the Sheriff's department, one is elderly, and across the street is your property manager. This really is a spot for relaxed fun. Don't come here if you're interested in a big party or funny business. We love the front yard. HUGE trees with lots of shade cover during the day so we play cornhole, BBQ, and bring other outdoor games to play when we are done with the water or need a break. House is very cold with great WiFi even though our phone signal sucks here. Bring all the food you need/want. There's not anywhere good to shop close by. You can get ice from the bait shop that's close. This is an older home but it is well-kept. Every year we notice improvements to the property so they really do put money back into the home which is nice to see. A misconception about the photos is that the house is not ON the water. The house faces the water with a private drive to the private dock. We actually love this because we can drive down and drop off our own kayaks and tubes and leave our trailer. You can see from the house all the way down and it is PRIVATE so no one else uses the dock or the driveway. This is truly a great getaway you don't want to leave. Highly recommend.

Adult getaway

It was an awesome experience. We rented this place to have some getaway from the busy city and have some time away from our kids. It was a little colder than we hoped but it was great time. We were able to do a bonfire and enjoy the weather. Definitely recommending this place to friends and family.

We absolutely loved and enjoyed Kayaks and Kabernet. The property was well manicured, very nice and clean inside. We were looking for peace and quiet and total relaxation and did we ever get just exactly what we needed. Plus, the lake just added another layer of what we were looking for.

Second time there and won’t be back

This is my second time there and didn’t realize the new management lives across the street. He was friendly, but also could tell he was keeping tabs on us. We like more privacy when spending that kind of money. The ac in the Master bedroom was low on freon and didn’t work. Lots of water bugs, did not see a single one the last time. Law enforcement also lives next door and acted like he owned the neighborhood; he would just drive onto the private driveway like a bat out of hell (there were kids around) and then the last day him and his dogs decided to take a walk on the private drive as well.

Beautiful, private location

We loved this rental for the proximity to the crystal clear water, the fire pit near the dock, the privacy relative to the public areas, and the extras like 3 kayaks, camping chairs, and kitchen stuff (non stick spray, foil, seasonings etc.). The Neueces River is everything we hoped it would be and we will definitely be back to stay here.

The best vacation rental stateside I've been too.

The house, property and location are fantastic. I'll judge my future VRBO rentals against this one. Well appointed, everything you could need, including things not on amenities list like a blender and everything was high quality including bedding, towels, appliances, furniture. The house was spotless, comfortable, roomy for 4 adults + 2 kids. Like others said there is a short walk to the lake, but it's maybe 300 yards away, and you can still see it from the living areas. Plus there is a wagon to haul your gear to the lake. The lake was awesome, we didn't really swim do to the temp but we used the kayaks, boat and dock for fishing and evening picnics. My only squabble is the master bedroom isn't connected to the HVAC system and we couldn't figure out how to work the wall unit. I'm not even sure if it had a heating option or if it was just an AC unit, but the nightime got chilly in that room. A manual for that would have been helpful. Also the streaming was spotty at night, but I assume that's more of a broadband traffic issue out there. We had 2 mobile elderly folks, a 2 year old and a 4 year old and the property served us well. If you have people with more mobility issues the steps and uneven terrain may be tricky. Anyhow we had a great time and will most likely be back in the future.

Birthday weekend getaway

My family stayed here for several days for my mom’s birthday weekend. My only complaint about the place, which was pretty major in my book was that the photos and description of the place are very misleading in terms of proximity to the water. It wasn’t exactly a “waterfront oasis” as described in the listing title. Yes there is water access, but it was about 300 yards away, across a road, and you could barely see it from the house. We had a nice time, the house was clean and well stocked with dishes. The pictures made it seem nicer than it was and it was in kind of a run down neighborhood. That and the misleading advertising about it being waterfront property made me feel like this VRBO wasn’t worth the money.

Suggestions to Owner

One of our Party is an experienced handyman and noticed the following: The hot/cold lines to the master BR faucet were installed in reverse. The two coach lights at the entrance gate are out. (By the cowbell). The two porch lights for the sliding glass door are out or the toggle switch is bad. The property overall is very nice and we would definitely stay here again.

A little disappointed!

We were a little disappointed with how far we had to walk to get to the water. We thought we were renting a home on the water and this one is not. It's a short walk to get to the water; too far of a walk to carry kayaks. Luckily, you can drive down to the water to unload your gear. The house is cute and is exactly how the pictures show it. I was a little surprised to see houses on either side. I might have missed that in the pictures shown online. One next door neighbor was outside most of the time we were there working on their home and had a fire going in the evenings. There isn't too much privacy with this home, unless the neighbors were at work. We did like how clean and clear the water was and we enjoyed having a fire by the water in the evenings. Overall, I would stay here again but I think the pictures could be a little more accurate.
