We just returned from the Kramers Meadow and the Piggly Pines Cabin. We went to celebrate our 21st Anniversary and it was perfect. The meadow is in full view from the Living room and the bedroom, and the sunrise viewed from the bed was exquisite!
The cabin is beautiful and very well equipped. The commercial kitchen had everything we needed to create gourmet meals. The bed and bathroom were perfect for a couple, but the cabin can sleep four more and there is a bunk house available too.
We explored the Sequoia Forest including Dome Rock, Needle Rocks, Camp Nelson and Sequoia Crest. It was sad to see the fire damage from back-to-back forest fires, but the forest is starting to recover, and Kramer Meadow was untouched. We will be back soon. Kramer Meadow is our new favorite destination!

The property and cabin were the most wonderful experience. Peaceful, quiet, tranquil and all the amenities needed to enjoy a stay. Owners are very attentive to your needs regarding either the facility or things to do in the surrounding area. If you're looking for a place to stay away from the hustle and bustle of the city this is your best selection! Thank you Annie! You guys are the greatest!
Wonderful and quiet location up in the trees. Plenty of room to stretch out. Hosts live close by but respect privacy. A restaurant/bar about a 20 minute walk away if you don’t feel like cooking. But who wouldn’t want to cook in that beautiful kitchen! 5 stars.
The beauty and seclusion of the location was amazing. We were there during the huge December snow storms and it was wonderful. We were safe, warm and experienced the magic of the Sequoia National Forest in winter. Everything you need is there and the hosts do an excellent job of clearing out snow daily so that when it is time to leave, there are no issues. We would definitely go back to see the beauty in other seasons.
The cabin is located on a beautiful private meadow surrounded by the national forest, close to hiking trails and wonderful vistas. Very private. The cabin itself was cool and comfortable with a well stocked kitchen. The hosts are exceptionally warm and welcoming, but with the greatest respect for the privacy of their guests. We are looking forward to returning.
We had an amazing time in the meadow. Loved the fresh air and beautiful surroundings. It was great to have our lab Winnie with us as well. Lots of time to enjoy the cabin, prepare delicious meals, enjoy hammocks and swings and take in local attractions. Loved time on the trail of 100 Trees and the giant sequoias. It was just a perfect getaway. Thanks for being such wonderful hosts. We look forward to a return visit someday.
Ann and John were incredible hosts! The home was immaculate and very cozy. Tons of trails to hike directly from the property. So nice to unplug from our phone and watch our dog romp around the woods. So gorgeous and serene. We will definitely be back.
Our group of moms and daughters had a wonderful stay. We hiked and mountain biked everyday on myriad fire roads and trails in the area. The view of the meadow from the cabin is breathtaking!
We went to get out of the fireworks! We wanted to support the local area of last year’s castle fire. What we found at Annie’s Piggly Pines was Paradise! Annie and John are beyond superb hosts! They are friendly and welcoming and had open arms to our Salukis! They pointed us in the direction of an incredible hike and answered all of our questions willingly and with a smile; both before we arrived, and while we were there. The cabin is ultra comfy and spotlessly clean! The chef’s kitchen is a dream! This paradise and it’s Meadows were saved by the heroes who fought the fire. We found absolute peace and solitude, as well as great conversation! I bent my hitch gate and John and Annie were quick to help me fix it. There was not one moment of discomfort. The hounds had a ball and were thrilled to be out of the fireworks. Us humans left refreshed and renewed. This place is truly unique and highly recommended! Be prepared to decompress! Paradise awaits you!
The property was just as described, perfect location to get away from it. The property was clean and Annie was great in giving us ideas for things to do. The whole family had a blast.
First I would like to say that Ann and John were great hosts! Ann was there to greet us when we arrived and she walked us through the cabin and showed us where everything was. The cabin, its design and architecture were amazing, and the view of the meadow was fantastic. The kitchen was a chef's dream with everything you need to prepare great meals. If you are looking for a quiet serene place with beautiful views to decompress, relax, with great outdoor spaces to explore without the big crowds, then this is the place for you. It is so peaceful and secluded here and you never see or hear any neighbors. We loved exploring the meadow and venturing off on long hikes in the forest. We love visiting National parks but they have become far too crowded. Here, we would hike for hours and never see another person, it was like we had our own private national park experience. The beautiful Sequoias, and our hike to this amazing rock formation called "The Needles" reminded of us of Yosemite. The big difference is that we had it all to ourselves!! I can't thank Ann and John enough for making this such a wonderful experience for our family. We have stayed at numerous VRBO's over the years and this is our new favorite place to stay! We can't wait to go back and experience this magical place again!!
These are the nicest hosts you can imagine. The property is very remote; and that is good and challenging...great for a few day getaway. Truly beautiful and private.
Annie's Piggly Pines rustic cabin is a well-maintained gem hidden among thousands of beautiful pines and rocky outcrops. If you're looking to escape to a quiet, scenic and peaceful locale (and don't mind the 28-mile winding road), we highly recommend Ponderosa. The property owners are super friendly and made the registration process extremely easy.
Just returned from our visit and wish we were still there! The location, property, and cabin are beautiful, comfortable, and very peaceful. The owners are lovely people and helped make our stay that much more enjoyable. We're very much hoping to return sometime in the future!
This was a great stay. I was in town for two nights for a co-workers wedding. I brought my mom so she could get out of the house since Covid has kept her cooped up. We were really happy with the kitchen and proximity to the lodge. I can’t wait to come back to see the shop open an enjoy the property in the summertime- though the snow had its own special touch. The place was very clean and cozy.
It was a treat for us to stay at Ann and John’s place. The property is beautifully tucked in among the pines and sequoias. We enjoyed playing outdoors in the snow, walking on the meadow and playing games next to the wood stove. And we had a lot fun cooking in their commercial grade kitchen. Thanks, Ann and John, for being wonderful hosts. We enjoyed chatting with you and learning about your unique, high performance saddles.
Ann and Boz could not have been nicer or more welcoming hosts. The cabin is cozy and has everything you might need, including a very well appointed kitchen. Their 20 acre property backs up to a large meadow with many trails. Perfect for cross country skiing, snowshoeing, hiking or just playing in the snow! I highly recommend this hidden gem.
We visited end of January on a whim (and to catch in incoming snow storm). The cabin was the perfect place for this with its cozy wood burning stove to provide heat (there's a furnace back up as well).
The owners are kind and pleasant and communication prior to arriving was full of information, house rules/expectations, and maps/instructions to get there (super helpful for the snow closures).
Some Winter notes: when there's snow, you absolutely need a 4x or all wheel and chains as backups. This property is up high in the mountains in a tiny town. They plow, but if there's anything fresh, you'll still be driving in snow.
Footwear - make sure your shoes can handle cold/wet conditions. Microspikes can help with slippery surfaces. Snowshoes would be nice for taking a walk anywhere besides the road.
General notes:
There's very limited internet usage. So be advised before you book. It was perfect for us, but might be a good note for others.
Download anything you might want to use/watch before you arrive.
The town at the top of the mountain is tiny. Grab food/groceries down the mountain (and don't forget anything - it's a long drive back down).
Loved our stay at Piggly Pines cabin. Ann and John where wonderful hosts and made our stay perfect. The kiddos absolutely loved being able to play in the snow right out the front door, and the dogs loved running in the snow! The christmas lights on the cabin and in the trees were a favorite of the kids. Can't wait to come back to this cabin!
I cannot say enough wonderful things about our hosts, Bob and Ann. They were there with anything we needed and went above and beyond by doing things like preparing a beautiful built fire with chairs around a fire pit for us. Beautiful property, lots of great walks. Cabin is great, with a stellar kitchen. Highly recommended!
We spent three days over Christmas and had a wonderful time. The cabin was rustic and modern, very clean and the kitchen was incredible! The wood burning stove was perfect, and Ann and Boz set you up to have anything you may need - wood and kindling, baking supplies, etc. They were kind and generous hosts!
We hiked nearby trails with breathtaking views, and Trail of 100 Giants is just down the hill. We are so glad this area was spared from the recent fires, it’s gorgeous. We will definitely be back for another visit sometime soon!

About the host
Your host
My husband John and myself operated Annie's Bed and Breakfast in Springville for 17 years prior to moving up the hill to Ponderosa. We both love the quiet mountains and have moved our Custom saddle shop 'Boz Saddlery' up here. Guests are welcome to watch John 'Boz' create a beautiful custom handmade saddle and also Equestrian gear. I help John in the saddle shop also. We have riding clinics and lessons available for quests with their own horses. Come up and relax and share our beautiful piece of paradise. The picture is us in costume for our artist neighbor for one of his shows. We were creatures in the snow.
Why they chose this property
I grew up with a cabin in Camp Nelson (12 miles down from Ponderosa) and loved this area. We looked all over the north west states and found this property in our own backyard. We are 4 hours from the beach, LA and 6 hours from SF. Great spot and lots or nothing to do, you can make the choice.
What makes this property unique
We have the most beautiful redwoods 10 miles from us, fishing a couple of miles, hiking, birdwatching. If you don't have a horse of your own, there is Quaking Aspen pack station that will take you for day rides or you can pack back into the back country. Trails, trails and miles or more trails for hiking, mountain biking and in the wintertime a great place for snowmobiling, cross country skiing and snowshoeing. Our area has a lot to offer and it isn't crowded.
