REYKJAVIK CITY LICENSED RENTAL: REK-2023-035485.
Welcome to our unique apartment, located in a four-level building that used to be the home of well-known Icelandic artists Hulda Hakon and Jon Oskar. As the landlord, I grew up in this building, so it holds a special place in my heart. The apartment is truly one-of-a-kind, with amazing art on the walls that will take your breath away.
The building itself is divided into four levels. The basement level houses a breakfast place called The Grey Cat, while the first floor is home to Gallery Kontor, an art gallery that you can enter through the front of the building. At the back of the building, there is a private entrance to the apartment, which is located on the first floor. This entrance includes a half bathroom, as well as stairs that lead up to the second floor.
On the second floor, you'll find a master bedroom with a double bed, as well as a spacious dining room that is part of an open-concept space with the kitchen. The living area is also located on this floor, and it provides a comfortable and cozy space to relax. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need to cook up a delicious meal.
But that's not all - there's also a third floor that features an open space with another double bed, a cozy seating area with a sofa and armchairs, and a full bathroom with a bathtub, shower, toilet, and walk-in laundry room.
As you explore the apartment, you'll be surrounded by stunning works of art by Hulda Hakon and Jon Oskar, who studied in New York in the 1980s. Their art is truly unique, and it's rare to have an opportunity to stay in a place that has such a close connection to these artists.
The apartment boasts an unbeatable location in downtown Reykjavik on Hverfisgata, a vibrant street that runs parallel to Laugavegur - Iceland's main shopping street. Guests can easily explore the bustling shopping scene on Laugavegur, as well as some of Reykjavik's most popular tourist attractions, such as the striking Sólfar sculpture and the picturesque waterfront promenade.
Hverfisgata also has a rich cultural heritage, with significant landmarks like Arnarhóll - a hill featuring a statue of Ingólfur Arnarson, the first settler in Reykjavik who arrived around 874 - the National Theater, The Culture House, and Bíó Paradís all located on the same street. With such an unbeatable location in the heart of downtown Reykjavik, this apartment is the perfect base for exploring all that the city has to offer.
If you're interested, we can even arrange for a guide to take you through the Gallery Kontor downstairs. Our apartment is truly a special place, and we can't wait to share it with you.
In addition to the previously mentioned attractions, this apartment is also located close to several key government institutions and diplomatic missions, making it an ideal location for business travelers or those with business at these institutions. The Supreme Court Justice, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Education, Central Bank of Iceland, Office of the Prime Minister of Iceland, and the Danish Embassy are all within a short walking distance from the apartment. This prime location allows guests to easily access these institutions while still being in the heart of downtown Reykjavik.
Easy access to Flybus airport shuttle (1 min. walk). The Flybus takes you from Keflavik International Airport to downtown Reykjavik and back.
