Modern convenience in a classic house
This is a great house to stay at. You can tell the host put a lot of thought into what guests might need with multi device chargers throughout the home. The upstairs lounge/office was great and they even thought about having an available HDMi cord for connecting. Modern appliances and pretty much anything you would need is there. A good thing that is not advertised is this is a bike friendly house. The laundry room doubles as a mud room with wall mounted bike racks so you can secure your bike if you bring it. Which you should because there are parks and local restaurants near bye and there are dedicated bike lanes. All this wrapped in a beautiful classic home. We have stayed at many VRBOs and this was one of the best. The only suggestion I would make is maybe some curtains for the front entryway and the back door for more privacy. Better yet, go with stained glass on the front entry and it would make the house even more beautiful.

Just like the listing shows!
The house was beautiful. Very clean and tidy! So much was provided for us. And the communication was wonderful. We didn’t LOVE the street it was on BUT we would go back again in a heart beat. Only 5 minutes from great restaurants, coffee places and the children’s museum. Again the house was so great!

Super cute, older house
Super cute, older house with upgraded furnishing, appliances and HVAC, with plenty of space to stretch out. The kitchen has basic cookware to make small meals while staying and the have plenty of supplies to do laundry if you are planning a long stay. The location is a short drive from everything you could need. The neighborhood is mostly quiet and well lite at night. All bedrooms are upstairs and there is a street light right out side the window. Would recommend a heavier weight or black out curtains to help darken the room at night to sleep. Stephen was very accommodating and responsive to all of my questions and request for a fan as there are no fans upstairs to circulate the air.

Super cute, older house with upgraded furnishing, appliances and HVAC, with plenty of space to stretch out. Within a mile or 3 of everything you could need. Neighborhood is mostly quiet but it is street front in a city so there is some traffic but not so much that it interrupts a good night’s sleep on the very comfy beds. Technically not mobility-impaired friendly as it has steps to entry and all bedrooms and the shower are upstairs, but if that is not a need, this is a great location and affordable accommodation for a visit to Roanoke! Would stay again if in the area!

Quick stay before leaving Roanoke
This is a very comfortable home and is pet friendly. It has everything we needed for our stay. We made good breakfast both days. Much better than any hotel. Thank you very much for a comfortable stay.

Why they chose this property

Choosing to renovate the speakeasy guest house in Roanoke was a passion project rooted in preserving history and reviving a piece of local lore. Roanoke, with its rich tapestry of tales and traditions, had stories hidden in every corner, and the speakeasy guest house was one such gem. By restoring it, we aimed to breathe new life into a bygone era, allowing visitors to step back in time and relive the clandestine allure of the Prohibition era. Every brick, beam, and fixture in the guest house now whispers secrets of the past, offering guests an immersive journey through time.

What makes this property unique

The Speakeasy Guest House stands as a testament to the rich history and charm of Roanoke's West End neighborhood. Nestled amidst historic homes that have stood the test of time, our guest house offers an authentic blend of the past and present. While the exterior pays homage to the timeless architecture of the West End, the interior has been meticulously remodeled to capture the essence of the Prohibition era. Original features and fixtures have been preserved and integrated with modern amenities, providing guests with both comfort and character. It's not merely a stay; it's a step back into Roanoke's illustrious past, right in the heart of the historic West End.
