Franklin's namesake is from none other than Benjamin Franklin!

This part of Maine is best known for being blueberry country. It is filled with coastal character and more blueberry fields than you can imagine! Fields of purple-blue in the summer and fiery red in the fall.

The views are beautiful and you can watch sunrise and sunset right from the amazing open air porch and deck complete with comfortable new furniture, dining table and grill. You will love living outside overlooking the lake! Enjoy the new fire pit to enjoy especially on a cooler evening.

New private dock right on the lake where you can tie up your kayaks, paddle boards or canoe. Swim, paddle or just have a lazy day overlooking the crystal clear lake with a great book and beverage!

We are very pup friendly as we know Fido is a big part of your family.
We have a nice large fenced in area for them to roam and relax on the grass.
We will allow up to 2 pups with permission. (We have a per pet fee please inquire)

Come visit, relax, restore and enjoy a blissful week in Maine.

Once you reserve your week, we will contact you directly within several hours with the particulars.

This is a beautiful location and a very peaceful place. We enjoyed kayaking on the lake and road trips to Acadia National Park. Laura is a very helpful hostess and very responsive to our needs.

Relaxing Stay

We had a wonderful stay in this location right on Georges pond. It was so relaxing sitting on the deck listening and watching for loons - it was our favorite part of our stay. The house has everything we needed to enjoy ourselves and the area. Kayaks, games, grill, etc. Our dog enjoyed the fenced in area right off the deck, which was a nice feature. We would love to stay again next year!

70th birthday vacation

We all had such a wonderful time at Sweetfern. It was a great base of operations for Acadia and Bar Harbor. We caught lots of bass in the pond. We would definitely go back. The hosts were easy to work with and very accommodating. I highly recommend this property.

Much enjoyment and relaxation!

Beautiful property and excellent location on a perfect Maine Pond with swimming and kayaking. We had everything we needed especially in the Kitchen. The big deck overlooking the Pond is great as is the shady lounge area near the dock. Laura, our contact was top notch.

Beaytiful location and home

Sweet Fern is a beautiful home with all the things you need for an enjoyable stay - kitchen stocked, towels, soap, starter coffee, starter fresh eggs, and many other items. Located on a pond filled with fish and visually marked obstacles so you don't ruin your boat. Easy to get to Acadia, Schoodic, and Bar Harbor among others without the business of the crowded tourist spots. The host was always available to answer questions and make sure everything is to your liking.

Sweet Fern June 2024

We really enjoyed our stay at the Sweet Fern Cottage. The view from the house is beautiful. Kitchen, bath and bedrooms had everything you could need. We went to Acadia National Park a couple times (get there early), Bar Harbor and other Maine attractions. Used the Kayaks on Georges Pond. Owner was polite and responsive to questions. Highly recommend Sweet Fern Cottage.

little piece of heaven

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Sweet Fern. The house had everything we could have needed and very well stocked. We loved spending time on the lake and our son's favorite spot was a little island with a diving board that we kayaked to. The sun room with all the windows open was our favorite spot to relax at night and listen to the loons. The neighbors were great and told us all about the area. The location is the perfect home base to explore Acadia and the Schoodic peninsula. We will definitely be renting again.

Awesome House and Location!

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Sweet Fern. The house was clean, kitchen was fully stocked, beds were extremely comfortable and showers were hot. The view of Georges Pond from the deck was breathtaking. Approximately a 20 minute drive to Ellsworth which had everything we needed -- grocery stores, pharmacy, restaurants and an LL Bean store. We were 30-50 minutes from all sight seeing locations. Schoodic Peninsula, Schoodic Point and Cadillac Mountain were beautiful. Laura's suggestion to take the Sea Princess cruise out of Northeast Harbor was the icing on the cake. Laura responded quickly to all questions and was a wonderful hostess. Thank you, Laura! We would definitely stay at Sweet Fern again

Lakeside Family Retreat

We loved our time at Sweetfern! The house was very clean, fully stocked with extra supplies and Laura was extremely helpful and attentive. The lake, kayaks and porch were all thoroughly enjoyed. Internet, appliances, etc all worked well. We loved bringing our dog with us — only wish would have been that he could roam more freely outside of the small fenced in area. We were not comfortable allowing our pup off leash to come with us out to the lake, etc but did feel comfortable with him in the house and in the fenced in area. Area is secluded and perfect for those wanting to get away from it all (but also able to drive into MDI and Acadias within about 45 minutes)! Our kids loved the diving board they kayaked out to and fishing off the dock! The house had everything we may have needed, and more! A great family trip!

On the Pond

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Sweet Fern house on Georges Pond. The property is exactly as pictured and very tidy. The exterior had beautiful planters and was nicely landscaped. All of the furnishings were clean and comfortable, including the master bedroom king size mattress. The kitchen was easy to navigate, the dishwasher quiet when run. The Smart TV and stereo sound bar worked well, easy to log in/out/use. The hosts offered us a unique experience in that the home was well stocked with paper products and kitchen items such as foil, sandwich bags. Most rentals are pretty hit/miss or give you 1 roll of bath tissue. Not here! It's a small thing but truly saved us time and money. We really appreciated it. The area in which the home is located is quiet and serene. Hearing the loons calling at night was such a treat. The not too long, narrow gravel/dirt driveway from the main road to the home is a little tricky with some worn/pothole areas - you'll learn them quickly enough to avoid them. We found the location of the property to work very well for spending time in Acadia but being able to leave the buzz of it. That meant about 30-to-45-minute pleasant drive to Ellsworth then onto the Hulls Cove Visitor Center intersection/the Park Loop Road. For those wanting to spend every day in the park, this location might be a bit far. Laura the property manager host was a superb and prompt communicator. We hope to return to Sweet Fern. It was a lovely stay!
