About this property

Classic 5BR Caspian Lakeshore Cottage Sandy Beach, Near Town

If you are interested in a classic New England lakeshore vacation in the beautiful Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, then consider the beautiful shore of Caspian Lake in Greensboro. This spacious five bedroom summer cottage has been in a single family since the 1930s and has a lot of traditional beauty and character. Caspian Lake is one of the cleanest and most beautiful Vermont lakes, and our cottage is located on the sandiest side of the lake - the south shore. Great for children who want to play in the sand and wade in the water - and for adults, too!

The cottage is in a fantastic location, only a 10 minute walk to the Willey's Store, the local general store begun over 100 years ago. Mountain View Country Club, Vermont's first golf club, is also a ten minute walk from the cottage and has a great golf course and seven clay tennis courts. Greensboro is also a wonderful summer community and is great for families - and it is also the home of the famous Circus Smirkus!! There are numerous great spots for picnics, including Barr Hill, and great day hikes, mountain biking and wonderful scenic drives are all very nearby. Greensboro is also the home of Jasper Hill Farm, producer of artisan cheeses sold across the country, and Hill Farmstead Brewery, which attracts beer aficionados from all over. A walking path circles most of Caspian Lake for great lakeshore walks. Learn more about Greensboro by clicking on the Greensboro Association link further down in this profile.

We include an aluminum canoe and a dingy with the rental. Two large lakefront bedrooms have commanding views of Caspian Lake, and there are three additional bedrooms - one with a built-in bunk bed. The living room with a large, attractive fireplace and dining room are great relaxing and entertaining space, and there is a small private den off the dining room.

So if you want to 'get off the grid' (just don't tell your kids the WiFi password!) and unwind with your family for a truly restful vacation with plenty to do both at the Cottage and in Greensboro and the surrounding area, please contact us about our cottage.

Please note: This is a summer cottage only, and it is open from early June through early October only. Sorry, not suitable for the winter months!!

Relaxing time in a heavenly setting

The Caspian lake cottage was ideal for our stay. We were 3 families with some teens and the size & configuration suited us perfectly. The cottage is perfectly situated with a porch facing peaceful Caspian lake. The house is well stocked & very comfortable. We were initially concerned about there only being one full bath plus one half, but it wasn't a problem at all. The owners were very responsive when questions arose (where are extra blankets, etc.) A highlight was having access to a canoe in which to explore the lake. We highly recommend a stay here and hope to some day return.

Great trip! Hope we can go back!

This was a wonderful trip. We were bring our daughters to cirus camp and wanted to stay on the lake for a few days. It was perfect! There were many sleeping arrangements to choose from, minutes from camp, a great little beach for the kids and just a short walk to the store. It was well stocked with kitchen stuff including all the staples. We hope to go back next year.

A perfect trip down memory lane for my family and I

I grew up visiting my Grandparent's cottage on Caspian Lake every year. I decided to re-create one of those long ago summers for my own family and rented this cottage. It was absolutely perfect! The cottage is charming and timeless and the location offers both a great sandy beach and a short walk to Willey's General Store and the rest of tiny Greensboro. The cottage is an authentic 1930s lake "camp" so it's rustic and definitely not fancy. However, it was clean and well stocked with everything we could need, the beds were comfortable and the decor adorable. The owners were easy to communicate with and very accommodating. I will absolutely visit again!

Vermont Charm!

We loved the Vermont charm of the natural surroundings, the cottage, and the lake with walk out beach. We immediately slowed our pace with this historic cabin, the beautiful fireplace, the quiet of living at the lake, nearby local adventures, and the country gardens. We enjoyed each meal on the covered lake front porch, incredible sunsets, and the fun of ping pong, canoeing, scrabble, and all without any outside interruption. Every room had its own charm and individual character taking you back to a simpler time.

Thanks for another charming escape to Greensboro, Caspian Lake and Vermont's Northeast Kingdom!

As usual, our grown family enjoyed a memorable Greensboro reprieve — a vacation spot that time forgot. The main house is a classic Adirondack-style summer cottage with a massive fireplace and lovely porch overlooking Caspian Lake. Its private beach leads to majestic mountains defining the horizon. Nights are cool and restful, filled with ink-black skies, brilliant stars, and soothing sounds of water lapping against boats and shoreline. The cottage's interior appointments are ample and comfortable, while nostalgic and spare. We love the sense of slipping back into a simpler time that this vacation spot evokes, along with its momentos from earlier generations and important leaders who summered in this place. The location feels isolated yet convenient — walkable to town for an ice cream cone or additional provisions. Nearby Mountain View Country Club offers a friendly, relaxed 9-hole golf course and 7 tennis courts, served by a beautiful new clubhouse with rambling porches and wicker rocking chairs. Complimentary wireless internet is available throughout the clubhouse. Cell service around Greensboro is spotty at best — conducive to unplugging for vacation. The land line in the cottage kitchen works just fine when a call is needed. All in all, it is a delightful place and touchstone to a bygone era, reminding us of what really matters.

About the host

Host profile image
Our grandparents first owned this cottage in the early 1930s; now three of their four grandchildren have owned it since 2002.

Why they chose this property

Our great grandparents began coming to Greensboro in the late 1890s with other college professors and ministers. We have been enjoying Greensboro our entire lives, and it truly remains our favorite spot, drawing us all back from all across the United States.

What makes this property unique

We enjoy slowing down from busy lives while we are in Greensboro, frequently enjoying swimming and boating the lake, reading on the beach, the porch overlooking the lake or in the living room, and many other great but relaxing outdoor activities every summer. The public lake path allows for easy daily walks past some great, classic cottages.
