This centrally located gem is in Maalaea, a cute little harbor town in South Maui and conveniently located 15 minutes from the airport and between Kihei and Lahaina. You will see more whales than birds during peak whale season. This condo is a relaxing one bed room suite, condo is by the beach. You can walk the sugar trail all the way to Maui. The pool over looks the ocean, BBQ and BYOB right next to the beach under the shaded tree. A vacation that's hard to beat.
While we are not likely to be onsite to welcome you or during your stay, we are easily accessible and timely in responding via the booking platform website/apps between 6am to 9pm EST. We can also be reached via text message or phone call in the event of an emergency. Our phone number will be provided prior to check in.
Maalaea has is a small boat harbor town south of Kihei, the departure point for many water activities. During the Winter and Spring months, you can get up close and personal with the humpback whales as they breach in the waters just off the coast.
You're on the sugar trail coast, where you could walk miles on the very long stretch of beach with minimal crowds.
The Hono Kai building is beach front and conveniently only 15 minutes drive to the airport, restaurants, Costco, Whole Foods, etc. It is also just a short drive to Kihei and a reasonable drive to Lahaina and the Kaanapali coast.
Heading south from the airport, Haouli Street is accessed by turning left just before the miniature golf course at the fork in the road. Turn left again and you will begin to pass several condo buildings. Towards the end of the street you will see the Hono Kai.
You will park in the Hono Kai parking lot in any open space (one car only please) and will then walk over to the office to fill out a parking placard. Please place this in your windshield and keep it in your car throughout your stay.
I suggest parking to the left of the building as you enter for the shortest walk. You will then find the staircase and go up one level to the B condos. You are looking for unit B13.
The door uses the August Home smart lock and can be accessed by sending us your cellphone information prior to check in. Once you provide your cellphone and we add your number, you will receive a text message with additional instructions on how to download the app. Upon arrival to the front door, simply open the August Home app and press the circle to unlock the front door (the phone will sense the door lock via Bluetooth). We will also send you a unique pin pad code either as a backup or for primary use if you prefer not to download the door lock app.
In the event that technology fails, we have a backup lockbox hidden on site for emergency access.
The pool gate can be opened using code 351.
As you enter the unit, the kitchen is to the right and contains everything you need to prepare typical meals. The kitchen has a fridge, electric range, dishwasher and microwave and basic utensils, cutlery, pots and pans, etc. There is also a seating area here with two bar stools.
In the main living area, there is a separate small dining table, pull out sofa couch, coffee table, separate chair and television. The tv has channels through Spectrum but island channels tend to leave a bit to be desired. Wifi is available for connecting your own devices to the internet.
Down the hallway is a storage closet and the bathroom. This unit has a shower only (no tub) so please be aware of this if you have little ones with you. The shower head pulls down but you would need to wash the kids in a small inflatable tub within the shower.
Off of the living room is the bedroom area which features a comfortable queen bed, closet and separate tv. There are sliding doors that separate the living area from the bedroom if you have children or another guest spending the night on the sofa bed.
Off of the main living area is a sliding door to the lanai where you can sit and enjoy dinners or a beverage. There is a small table and 2-3 chairs.
There is a common area laundry room just down the hallway. The outdoor space features a shared pool, sitting area and barbecue grills.
Maui does have a bus system but it is infrequent.
Unless you are only staying at the Hono Kai and the beach right out front, a rental car is highly advised to explore.
Please only bring one rental car as this is the maximum allowance per condo. Any additional vehicles would have to be parked across the street at your own risk.

The unit is on the second floor, walk up. This condo complex does not have an elevator and you will need to climb stairs from the parking area to the second floor condo.
The building is beach front. Our condo itself is not beach front. There is an outdoor lanai where you can sit and enjoy the breezes and hear the ocean but to see the ocean, you will have to walk approximately 50 feet down the exterior hallway.
