Tranquil Bliss: A Haven of Hospitality
Nestled within the embrace of nature's tranquility lies this charming sanctuary. My recent stay at this delightful retreat, hosted by the wonderful Annie and Joe, was nothing short of magical—an experience that will linger in my memories for years to come. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with genuine warmth and hospitality by Annie and Joe, whose passion for ensuring their guests' comfort and satisfaction was evident in every detail. Annie and Joe’s welcoming smiles and gracious demeanor immediately made me feel at home, setting the tone for a truly unforgettable stay. The cottage itself was a cozy haven, exuding charm and character at every turn. Tastefully decorated, it offered a perfect blend of comfort and simplicity with beautiful flowers upon my entrance. But what truly made my stay memorable was the exceptional hospitality of Annie and Joe. Throughout my time at the cottage, they went above and beyond to ensure that I felt welcomed and cared for. They offered invaluable insights into the area's hidden gems, their genuine kindness and generosity left a lasting impression. Their stories and laughter infused the cottage with warmth and camaraderie, creating an atmosphere that felt more like visiting dear friends than staying at a rental property. As I reluctantly bid farewell to this beautiful place. I left with a heart full of gratitude and a renewed sense of connection to the beauty of simple pleasures and genuine human connection.

A Heavenly Haven!
This sweet cottage was such a welcoming retreat-I seriously did not want to leave. Annie and Joe are two of the nicest people you will ever meet (I mean it!), and their pride in their property is evident-the cottage was absolutely spotless when I arrived (with beautiful fresh flowers in the kitchen and bathroom). I was greeted by Joe (and joined by Annie shortly thereafter), and I greatly appreciated their overview of the cottage and the area and how to operate certain things in the cottage. I loved the setting of the property, too-so convenient to both UNCA for walking and to Merrimon Ave for commercial needs, but you feel like you’re out in the country when you’re on the property. As others have said, the layout of the cottage makes the space feel much larger (high ceilings and skylights help), and every space-maximizing detail has been thoughtfully considered and implemented. If you ever have an opportunity to stay here and to meet Annie and Joe, consider yourself very lucky! I can’t wait to return.

Amazing little Cottage!
First and foremost our Hosts Anne and Joe were fabulous! Extremely accommodating, so very kind and just a joy to be around. I am sure we will be getting together at our new home once we get settled! Thank you Anne and Joe for being so much fun. Ohhh… And their yard should be in a “garden magazine”, I had the most fun on the swing and bird watching!

Beautiful, Perfect Space
I had an AMAZING stay at this little cottage. I travel every 3 months for work and have stayed in a lot of furnished spaces, and this was by far the most beautiful place I’ve ever stayed in. Bright and airy decor, awesome shower and extremely comfortable pillows and bedding, nothing was left for want. The owners, Annie and Joe were wonderful! So easy to communicate with and always making sure I was being taken care of! Grocery store was only 2 minute drive away, downtown Asheville was only 6 or 7 minutes away. Perfect location. Beautiful cottage. Kind and wonderful owners. Can’t go wrong with this place!

Home with a Heart
The prior reviews say it so well. You can believe every word! I couldn't imagine 320 sq. ft., but the cottage is so smartly designed and furnished, you feel it's much bigger. It's all charm and comfort. I commented to Annie and Joe that it looks as if it had never been used before me, it is so fresh and new-looking. They told me that that is exactly their goal for every guest! The delightful garden is lush and large. The cottage is a perfect place to re-charge and /or to use as a base for visiting the Asheville area.

The Perfect Place!
I hesitate to write a review because I want this cottage to be available next time I'm in Asheville, but I can't be greedy. This place is a gem. If you're coming to town on business or pleasure, look no further. You won't find a place that's comfier, cozier, cleaner, or more convenient than this cottage. I had a car but it rarely left the driveway. I could walk to Trader Joe's and Whole Foods for bfast and lunch provisions. For dinner, the downtown restaurants are all within walking distance, as is the glorious Grove Park Inn (don't miss the kale Caesar salad with salmon). You'll love the nearby walking trails, all of which are outlined in Joe and Annie's guidebook, along with their favorite restaurants. (Thank you for recommending the fish tacos at White Duck Taco.) If I could give the cottage six stars in every category I would, without hesitation. You won't be disappointed. Just please don't book the cottage when I want to be here. :)

Charming and comfortable
A cute and charming cottage tucked away in a quiet neighborhood. Everything we needed was available and our hosts couldn't have been any nicer. Asheville has much to do, see, eat and drink and Anni and Joe had plenty of suggestions, many that we enjoyed and would do again. Definitely a place to return to.

Wonderful place in Asheville
My husband and I were here for five days in October. The space was beautiful and everything we needed was there. The hosts are delightful and were able to answer all of questions. I would highly recommend this place for a getaway or longer stay.

Great location and great cottage!
Quaint and picturesque are the 2 words I would use to describe the cottage. Small but upscale and has all the modern conveniences you would need. Excellent location. 5 minute drive to downtown. Exceptional hosts that provided great insights/suggestions for local eateries and activities. We walked to dinner our first night based on their feedback and the meal was amazing.

Wonderful in town retreat
We have visited the Asheville area annually for over 15 years and love the area. What a great find this was because for the first time we were able to minimize our driving by staying in town at this perfect little cottage. Joe and Annie are delightful hosts and take great pride in providing a wonderful experience for their guests. The cottage is perfect in every way- immaculate, serene and beautifully refurbished with a beautifully landscaped surrounding garden - both are lovingly maintained. The area is quite but has many nearby conveniences, Whole Foods (GreenLife) and Trader Joe’s are nearby. We can’t wait to plan our next trip.

Great stay in an immaculate cottage
My husband and I recently stayed in Anne and Joe's cottage in Ashville. First of all the cottage is bright and open floor plan. Everything looks new and shiny. The kitchen is modern and we enjoyed having breakfast there-trader Joes our favorite place to shop is minuets away. The bed is very comfortable and the linens are great. The setting is beautiful -loved the swing. Joe has a book that outlines everything you need to know about the area-both Anne and Joe are very welcoming -wish we had more time there .Rhubarb was one of the best restaurants we have eaten in and my husband are foodies. I would give this cottage a 5 star rating !!

Best place to stay in Ashville
This charming cottage is perfect in every way! Well equipped, clean, stylish and walking distance to some of the best restaurants in town. Close to downtown, but secluded and quiet. The beautiful grounds - complete with bunny rabbits - are perfect for enjoying a cup of morning coffee or glass of wine in the evening. The owners were as charming as the cottage and their restaurant recommendations were spot on. We also enjoyed the walking trails and botanical gardens that were nearby. I can't wait to return!

Fantastic cottage!
From the moment we arrived, this charming cottage was exactly what we needed - a quiet, simple place to relax and enjoy time away. Joe and Anne have done a fantastic job making the smaller space extremely functional. There is a lot packed into less than 400 square feet, and it all works. We especially appreciated the small kitchen and refrigerator. My wife, an interior designer, quickly fell in love with the entire cottage.

Perfect weekend getaway
We loved our stay at the cottage. The cottage itself is beautiful and clean; it sits on a lovely, quiet piece of property that is just far enough away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Anne and Joe were wonderful hosts; not one detail was overlooked. The cottage was extremely close to wonderful restaurants, grocery stores and shopping, and the nearby greenway provided a lovely walk to downtown. We were sad to leave! We look forward to returning very soon.

Comfortable, Cozy, Clean, Private Cottage
I stayed at this cottage for 6 nights. It was very clean and exactly as shown in the pictures. In the evenings, I walked down to the UNC Botanical Gardens via the Greenway and walked to Luella's BBQ and Plant for dinner. This cottage is so close to everything, but set back far enough from Merrimon Ave. that it's very quiet and private. The privacy was wonderful, something you never get from a hotel. I would keep the blinds open at night and awaken to the view of the beautiful gardens right outside the window. Annie & Joe are wonderful hosts. They've created a very nice book that explain how to operate everything in the cottage along with local attractions and their favorite restaurants. I'm chemically sensitive, so I was pleasantly surprised to find that Annie & Joe practice green cleaning.. The sheets and towels were crispy white but didn't have the strong bleach smell that hotels always have. This will be the place I will stay whenever I return to Asheville.

Lovely Cottage
My husband and I stayed at the Cottage while we attended a conference at the Grove Park Inn. As soon as I saw it, I fell in love. We were greeted by the owners and felt right at home. They were so welcoming. The cottage has been renovated with a modern/contemporary feel along with several efficiencies. It is 8 mins from the Grove Park Inn and 8 mins from downtown Asheville. Lots of local eateries are close by. Overall, we had an amazing get away. We highly recommend staying at the Cottage for your weekend away.

Charming cottage, lovely hosts
My husband and I spent our anniversary in Asheville back in June and from the moment we arrived at the cottage we were taken by the beautiful property with it's sprawling green lawn and meticulously cultivated garden. Joe and Annie were wonderdul hosts; cheerful and gracious, and happy to recommend areas of interest throughout the city. The cottage itself was lovely; comfortable, and very well cared for, with plenty of gorgeous natural light! There were even fresh flowers from the garden awaiting us when we entered. If you're looking for a cozy space right in the heart of Asheville, you can't do better than the cottage. We had a wonderful stay and would be happy to visit again. Thanks Joe and Annie!!

Perfect Cottage
My husband and I were visiting family in Asheville and were looking for a place to spend a few nights. This perfect little cottage was where we stayed and we hit the jackpot. Anne and Joe were the perfect hosts and very helpful on places to check out in Asheville. The cottage is located close enough to walk downtown, and is located very close to the interstate for great access. The cottage was meticulously designed, re-modeled, and maintained. The kitchen provides you with any all the necessary equipment to cook a full meal. The quaint sitting area has a nice love seat and sitting chair. The bathroom is perfect, well designed and laid out. The shower and counter space are great. We look forward to returning to Asheville soon and will be staying here!

Stop looking.... This is HOME!
My husband and I wanted to find a quiet and cozy retreat for our 10th anniversary. We found it here with Annie & Joe. They are the most gracious and thoughtful hosts. They have put so much thought into their carriage house, from the lighting, to the lovely soap, to the flowers and added coffee, this place became home in just a matter of days. It's also perfectly located. It's just a short walk to UNC Asheville and about a mile from downtown. We debated between choosing a VRBO rental in downtown and one in the mountains, but we found the most perfect home in Asheville. You should choose it too. We can't wait to return.

Great Cottage and Awesome experience!!
We went to Asheville for a wedding and we really enjoyed this cottage. Everything was perfect, the cottage is very clean, with a beautiful light, a comfortable bed and modern amenities. Location is charming and quite as its surrounded by nature but also very close to downtown. Annie & Joe are great hosts, very kind and attentive during our whole staying. We will repeat in our next trip and we recommend it for a charming experience in Asheville.

About the host

Host profile image
I am a singer/songwriter, voice talent, and amateur gardener. I love the arts, eating yummy food with friends and family, and the outdoors (especially horseback riding at Hickory Nut Gap Farm or jumping into one of our beautiful mountain swimming holes!). I'm grateful for the opportunities I've had to travel abroad and learn about other cultures. I feel extremely fortunate to have been born and raised in such a wonderful community as Asheville. I love my hometown and all things about the Blue Ridge Mountains.
My husband, Joe Ebel, is a Wisconsin native and has lived here in Asheville for 14 years. He is an an amazing musician, website developer, chef, handyman and just a great guy and fantastic husband! We manage several properties, all next door to us. We love the green space that surrounds us, the peacefulness of our setting, and the proximity to the downtown Asheville scene.

Joe and I met through music. We both write and perform. Between the two of us, we have five CDs of original, acoustic music. If you've seen the Ken Burns National Parks Series TV show on PBS, you've probably heard Joe's violin playing!
He also plays mandolin and acoustic and electric guitar.

Joe and I created a mission statement years ago, and it still holds:
'Create and sustain harmony and balance in ourselves and the world, through loving relationships, artful music, comfortable, peaceful environments and integrity of mind and body.'

Why they chose this property

Asheville is my hometown. At one time, Asheville was called the 'Paris of the South.' It's also called the 'Land of the Sky.' Asheville has always attracted diverse and interesting people. Walk down the halls of the nearby historic Grove Park Inn and you'll see the photographs of famed movers and shakers through the decades. I've watched it grow from a sleepy mountain town to a premier vacation destination, with a lively downtown street scene. Yet it still retains a friendly nature. I love North Asheville, the Farmers Market at the University on Saturdays (during growing season), the hiking, the Parkway views, restaurants, theater, music, and on and on...

What makes this property unique

It's hard to beat the combination of a park-like feel combined with the convenience of being in a city that has so much to offer. The cottage has the best views of the surrounding green space, even better than our own home! The entrance to the cottage has a covered outdoor, flagstone seating area. It's a cozy spot to take in the fresh air while enjoying a morning coffee or tea, especially on a rainy day! A greenway only a half block away affords a casual stroll to the UNC-A Botanical Gardens.
