Historic Cottage Across the Street from Beach

Check out "Henson - Upper" (upper level) located in the historic McCabe-Lancaster House, a classic beach cottage with an open floor plan and nostalgic charm. The property is across the street from the ocean, and just steps away from the beach access with a lifeguard stand.

Both levels of this cottage may be rented individually or as an entire home. "Henson - Upper" is the second level and features 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, large kitchen, living and dining area. "Henson - Lower (C062)" is on the first floor and includes a ramp and also features 3 bedrooms and 2 baths, a large kitchen and living and dining areas.

The upper and lower levels are both accessed from outside. Each floor has a large open porch with swing, rockers, table and chairs. There is an outdoor shower shared for both units and a designated golf cart parking and charging station with room for two carts. Upon request a portable crib and high chair can be made available.

Come experience beach living the way it used to be, you'll be glad that you did!. Simple, efficient, and close to the sand and water. Lovingly maintained with great respect to it's history while also keeping it relevant for today's more discriminating guests, this home is made for making wonderful memories with your family. This is a non-smoking unit. No pets allowed.

Renter Requirements: Renters must be a minimum of 25 years old. Groups of unrelated occupants that do not reside in the same primary residence must be 30 years old.

Cute little place !!!

We were 4 adults and fell in love with the upper Henson! So close to beach, rode our bikes everywhere and paddle boarded in waterway behind house. Used the outdoor shower which was great! we will be back next year!

Cute Historic Home

I rented the upstairs for a weekend with my girlfriends. Due to some miscommunication, the unit had not been cleaned when we arrived. Other than that, everything was perfect. The beds are comfortable and the kitchen has all that you need and more. Public beach access is very close. We loved the history of the home. I would definitely recommend.

But, now that Bryant is cleaning the house, it is obvious because there are spots on the carpet, the dishwasher front was not cleaned and the side of the refrigerator where the trash is kept was not cleaned nor were the shower heads in the bathrooms. Think the Bryant cleaning folks need to be a little more thorough.

We only walked one house down to the beach access. The beach was not overly crowded, and there was a life guard stationed there. The boardwalk was in walking distance, and the pier at the opposite end of the road was also. We had one day of rain and one cloudy day, but you can’t control the weather. I will definitely be coming back to stay again and will recommend it to other family and friends also!! Thank You for a great week!!

Great Labor Day Stay

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Our family (5 adults, 3 kids) stayed over Labor Day and had a great time. The space was perfectly sized as we did not feel cramped. It was very clean apart from a little dust on the ceiling fans and walls. The kitchen was also well stocked. One of our adults slept on the sleeper sofa and found the mattress less comfortable than the actual sofa. We enjoyed the front porch, especially the swing and the close proximity to the beach. There was a neighborhood cat that hung around the porch the first couple days. This was only concerning due to allergies in the family but it did not end up being a problem. We would definitely plan on staying here again.

Would not come back!

House was comfortable enough…doors in the house have to be pressed firmly on in order to latch shut, the cabinets squeak and are extremely outdated so it was no surprise when the downstairs apartment complained about noise. It was frustrating trying to keep our 2 year old quiet when a few modernizing updates could really improve this property. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone with children as the sound travels to the lower apartment and the property manager was none to friendly about it. The front and back doors also need the locks replaced, the bottom locks do not do anything only the deadbolt. This would be an incredible property if it were modernized and updated as well as friendly property managers! Also, half the dishes were dirty in the cabinets and had to be rewashed but they were sure to tell us we had to clean every dish and put them away (which was fine) but it seems as if nobody checks that the property is actually clean and kept before visitors come. I was super disappointed in our stay. The area is great but this property was not!!

I walked across the kitchen/dining room floor and my feet were black. I realize that the management company does their best in preventing pest but we did whiteness a few cockroaches. Otherwise the property was well stocked with everything you need to cook even some games for rainy days.

Three Day family vacation in Carolina Beach

One concern was there is a window in the shower in the hall bathroom. We were on the second floor and the house next to us was three stories and had windows so all of us used the master bathroom to take showers. Also the walls are very thin and the people downstairs liked to stay up until 2-3 am. Except for these two things really liked it.

The unit was very clean and very much appreciated the linens as part of the rental fee. The supplies in the kitchen were so helpful. Plenty of paper goods. Kitchen had many cooking items so we were able to do a lot of cooking for the week. You can hear the neighbors downstairs but it was not distracting. I have stayed in that same block before so the location to the beach is great. That part of the beach is also relatively less crowded compared to closer to the boardwalk. I will definitely reserve this house again. Also, it was easy to reserve and I appreciate the frequent convenient communication with the rental agency through the app. Overall a great experience!

The house was everything we needed--clean, well appointed, quiet location, supplies for our daily needs were available. Our granddaughter, from Seattle, came with us and she ha a blast. Beach access was very convenient, as was the little grocery store two doors north. We spent a lot of time sitting in the rocking chairs on the front porch, enjoying the sea breezes and "people watching". We could not have asked for a better vacation.
