Maximum stay is two nights. You may also charter the boat for daytime cruises without an overnight stay. Union Island offers adventures year round, with daytime, sunset and nighttime departures. Evenings are an overlooked time to be on the water, which is lit up by the stars, moon and lights of the Golden Gate Bridge and downtown San Francisco.

Weather on the Bay is often beautiful in the middle of winter, when it is sometimes even warmer than on our (often) foggy summer days. But we do have heaters on the boat to keep you toasty on cool nights, and one of the cabins is completely enclosed with glass on all sides to keep the wind off during cruises. While offshore, we have onboard power for electric blankets.

If you’d like to take a road trip before or after your stay, we also have luxurious 24-foot Mercedes sprinter van conversion for rent.

Each booking supports the Union Island Project, which provides marine excursions to low income residents.

Breathe the salt air that heals the soul.
Retired from the Navy, our stay was peaceful. The gentle rocking of the boat, smell of the salt air, and the beautiful surroundings made our visit one for the books. As a professional photographer and documentarian in Iraq and Ukraine, this was the perfect way to find peace.

A nice 2 days!
The boat was overall a great experience, the views are insane and the fact theres a kitchen and small fridge is awesome. Slightly hard to get to the dock, and the boat can get a little chilly since theres no heater, just space heaters. Other than that the area has lots of fun hiking and restaurants within 10/15 min away.

Unique & amazing
For a ship of this age this one is extremely well maintained with many of its original details intact. A truly unique place to stay. Booked a 2hr midday cruise. Captain Ruby & deck hand James made the tour special traveling under the golden gate and providing details along the way. We spend our evening sitting in the chairs on top as the sun went down, watching the lights on the homes start to shine across the bay. Then in the morning sitting in the wheelhouse with coffee watching the sun rise. Host responded quickly when we had a question. If you are looking for a rare glimpse backward in time this is one great stay!

Couldnt Stay but Beautiful
First of all the boat was absolutely charming and beautiful! The view was good, the responses were prompt but the situation was not for us. Wish we would have known about the compost toilet which would have been a deal breaker and the stairs were all too problematic for older folks like us but the younger set would surely enjoy the stay

Unique Experience
We were in Sausalito for just one night, so I thought it would be fun to do something different. It was such a unique experience. Being new to "yacht-life", I was a little worried about the logistics of staying on a boat, but the host left very detailed notes, and even had youtube videos to help explain everything. Highly recommend if you're looking for a different kind of stay!

Unique
What a unique experience to stay on-board an antique boat. Everything worked as expected and we enjoyed our stay. Our hosts went overboard to make our stay special to help us celebrate our 33 wedding anniversary. When it was apparent we would be unable to do a bay cruise, our host arranged for another option so we would still have a memorable experience…certainly appreciated. Communication was amazing from first inquiry to after our stay. Would highly recommend this property for anyone wanting a special and unique experience.

What an experience to stay on a 100-year-old boat! We enjoyed ourselves to the max on the boat with some local wine and charcuterie from Mollie Stone’s. Brian was very helpful to all of our inquiries! We loved every second of our stay!

Unique Experience
A delight to experience both San Francisco Bay, cruise under the Golden Gate and relax on deck at the marina. Lots of varnished wood and nautical character to appreciate. Comfy berths and classic galley. Great captain Ruby and deckhand Nathan. May well do this again!

Lovely boat but not for us
The we were traveling across the country for a week so we had larger bags. Staying on the boat was not going to work for us so we did not stay the two nights that were books. This would be perfect for a one night stay and with smaller bags. And during warmer weather. For our trip it had rained for 5 days in the San Fran area. It was cold and not tolerable to stay on a boat with heated blankets and portable heaters. Please ask about the toilet and shower if you are not familiar with these on boats. I was but not a composting toilet. You receive the directions prior to arrival. I also misjudged my need to relax and stretch out after traveling all day. Amy and Brian were very responsive with communication. Amy was kind enough to help us reschedule our cruise since it was the morning of rain and a small craft warning. The night cruise was perfect coming out of the Sausalito bay, to see the sunset behind the GGB and the lights of the city.

Romantic stay in Sausalito
From Amy and her quick response to support on the boat on how things work, the videos, the communication and then the beautiful old boat was just spectacular. Been to Sausalito my entire life and to actually stay on one of the boats instead of just watching was a wonderful experience, the owner hired captains under the Golden Gate Bridge and the San Francisco area, which was also quite a treat at the end of the day we realized we left our glasses, sunglasses and Amy had the housekeeper find them and send them to her which she probably sent to us. it was a set of glasses. I got for my wife for her anniversary in Italy so it was so appreciated a 10 out of 10.

Unique Experience
On a recent trip to Northern California with my grandson, I was looking for unique experiences for him. Brian’s boat fit the bill. Anchored in the Sausalito marina, we spent the night aboard and then took a two hour San Francisco Bay excursion the next morning. Definitely not the same as a hotel stay, required a little more effort, but that was the point. Weather during this second week of June was extremely windy and foggy but that added to the experience. Brian was a great host and easy to communicate with. Would recommend to anyone looking for not just a run of the mill lodging choice.

Great time! Beware, Location is wrong in listing
We had a great time, host is great and responsive. We did the two hour cruise with captain Andy and first mate Nathan and could not say enough good things, so cool to see the city from such a relaxing cruise. Only negative is address of marina is wrong on listing, at the time of me writing this, the ship was at a marina way on the outskirts of Sausalito, near a junkyard, 30 minute walk from downtown. We did not have a car and were blindsided by this day of arriving. I would only recommend this listing if you have a car (parking is free at marina). Wish we could give it 5 stars but they need to fix the address on listing or at least give more notice in case we wanted to refund.

Tight quarters
My son is big and tall, he bumped his head several times on the ceiling. The bed was not long enough or comfortable. He was cold all night long. Sleep was limited because the generator kept turning off and on while making a loud noise. The Captain was excellent! Natalie and Heather did well steering the boat through choppy waters, however our boat left the dock at 5 and we returned at 7PM -which was supposed to be a 3 hour tour. The boat needs a better location- it is difficult to turn and get in and out. This “special trip“ was for my son and he was not happy. So disappointed.

Host changed terms, wouldn’t refund.
Important: we didn’t stay on the boat so this review is not a commentary about the space itself. Brian was lovely to schedule with. Unfortunately days before our trip someone else from his team informed us that the boat was broken and we could not do the charter trip that was required with an initial reservation. We wished to reschedule, but do not have availability until next summer (after the academic year). We requested a refund, but were informed that as not possible. They did a partial refund for the charter trip. We did not wish to go through the hassle of finding another boat trip 1 day before our trip and we had no desire to stay on a boat that could not leave the dock. We were paying a premium for the full experience. Brian’s team member offered for us to reschedule within 1 year but this is only documented in our messages. There is no official documentation or guarantee from VRBO. As a student, this is also a lot of money that we had saved to give my son a fun 2nd birthday/us parents a break since entertainment (boat ride) would be in the same space he could eat and sleep. In terms of a professional and quality experience - scheduling was 5 stars, week before our trip was 1 star. I feel bad writing this review because we were looking forward to this trip. However there is/was an easy solution - refund your guests if you change any terms on them. I would strongly recommend others to consider what happens if terms change on you or the boat malfunctions.

I write for publications such as the New Yorker and National Geographic and am currently making a film and writing a book about homelessness in the Bay Area. I bought this boat with my wife, a doctor, genetic engineer and filmmaker, as a place to bring people together from the various parts of our lives. We're inviting tech CEOs aboard alongside homeless residents we've befriended. We're using the boat in a new film and hosting dinner parties with artists, activists and freethinkers.
