Wapiti Wallow is a 116-acre property and our home. At anytime you may find us working around the property performing routine Montana tasks such as, putting in firewood, cutting lumber on our sawmill, thinning trees, mowing etc. The “Loft” is a separate building from the main house with all its own amenities. The “Loft” is a 2nd story, 800 square foot nicely appointed 2 bedroom, 1.5 bath dwelling with decks boasting views front and rear. The entry includes a mudroom for equipment/gear etc. With some limitation’s guests are welcome to explore our 76 acre property which includes walking trails, a beautiful creek that flows ¾ of a mile through the property, a trout pond, swimming holes and scenic spots for picnics or simple quiet time. Interacting with the homeowners is your choice. We will give you all the privacy you wish, but we are open to simple interactions. Of course, we are always available to answer questions about the local area history and the multitudes of recreational opportunities.

Sidenote: Previous guests have suggested we mention the following. If you plan to ride the Hiawatha Trail and in addition want to explore the local area or simply relax at Wapiti Wallow, then you should make a minimum 3-night reservation as the Hiawatha consumes most of one day, leaving very limited time to do much else. It has also been suggested we mention the multitude of mountain roads and trails to be explored by 4X4, ATV’s, dirt bikes etc. If you have them bring them!!

Winter Getaway in the Mountains
Our ski trip to Bozeman/Helena over New Year’s was challenged by a lack of snow. Grr.After hearing Lookout Pass had snow, we made a last-minute drive four hours from Bozeman to tackle tLookout. So grateful Wapiti Way was available and for the speedy communication and accommodation from the owners! It was absolutely perfect for what we needed. It’s nestled deep into the forest/mountains, but easy to access off I90 with the directions provided. The 2nd story loft guest house is on a gorgeous property and has a beautiful view from both balconies. Because it was winter, we didn’t get to explore/enjoy the grounds or see much wildlife, but we did get greeted by three wild turkeys each morning! The guest house was well stocked and immaculate. It had everything we needed…and more. The little extras always get me excited. Make-up wipes, laundry detergent, small fans, Plenty of drawer space, coffee and disposable coffee cups w/lids! It was quaint and cozy, and a lovely way to usher in the new year. After spending a few minutes reading the guest book, I knew we’d have to come back in the summer and enjoy all this property has to offer! The Mangold General Store on the frontage road is awesome! Don’t let its outside look deceive you - it’s adorable and has anything you need including a whole huckleberry section. Note: This is a 2nd story guest house and requires a flight of stairs to access. This was fine for us but could be challenging for someone with limitations.
