A space to breath in Driftless Region

The property is VERY centrally located to the many quaint towns along the Driftless Area Byway. There are wonderful outdoor activities depending on the season you choose to go. We enjoyed the colorful leaves, the babbling trout stream, the sounds and sights of bringing in the fall harvest. We also hiked, wondered little towns, stopped at scenic overlooks. When going to Trout Lodge, consider the season you are going and pack accordingly. Bug spray, wasp/bee spray, suntan lotion, etc. Also, there is a good working kitchen but if you love something at home, sharp knife and favorite stew pot, bring it along Our stay offered exactly what we wanted. Go with an open mind and know that it any perfect…but fun memories can be made.

Private, quiet cabin

I needed sometime away after my newphew past away. It was beautiful, quiet and peaceful. The hot tub was relaxing. The extra cabin was nice for our daughters. Cory was nice and responsive. I mentioned some maintenance and spring clean that should be done and he said he would get on it.

Great Time and Experience

We had a blast. Verizon worked if you're connected to the wifi. But this property sits in the bluffs and is perfect for a get away. Trout stream runs right through the property and the added space for sleeping next to the main cabin was great. The town of Waterville is close and they had good food and cold drinks. We were looking forward to the hot tub but it wasn't quite as warm as we had hoped but it worked properly. The only downfall I would say is the amount of wasps on the property but being that it's in the middle of nowhere can't really hold anyone at fault so bring wasp spray. I would give this 10 out of 10 and look forward to staying here again.

Great views, very run down and not clean

We wanted to get away for a couples trip. I reached out prior to booking to confirm the two cabins come with the booking and they confirmed. We paid extra for firewood. We arrived around 4:45pm and check in was easy. We noticed right away that the heat wasn’t working in the second cabin. We also noticed the firewood was not there. We reached out to the property contact right away because we had two couples staying and wanted separate sleeping arrangements and to start a fire. They did not respond. Immediately about the heat in the other cabin but someone did arrive to deliver fire wood. I let that person know the heat wasn’t working in the second cabin and was already down to 50 degrees. He said someone would look at it. I got a text message around 7:45 saying they couldn’t fix the heat and offered to move us to another cabin but that is all. It was already 3 hours later, we had already started grilling dinner and only had ONE night for our anniversary to relax. This was not a relaxing trip. We had to sleep in bunk beds. We checked the temperature in the second cabin the next morning and it was 41 degrees. In the description it does say this cabin is used a lot by fisherman and kids and has a lot of wear. We were not expecting perfection but we paid an excessive cleaning fee for a one night stay and it was extremely dirty. The dishes from the previous customer were still dirty in the dish washer, the walls were extremely dirty, the floors were dirty so we wore our shoes.

I hope this warning can help you avoid our nightmare

I booked Cory’s cabin for a weekend stay with my daughter and two dogs, expecting a relaxing getaway. Instead, it turned into a nightmare. After a three-hour drive for me and a two-hour drive for my daughter who traveled from college, we arrived at the property to find it already occupied. There were personal belonging inside and the doors were locked with no access. I frantically checked my confirmation email and the website, and checked my credit card app to ensure payment went through. I was terrified I made a mistake but all information was correct and I was charged. I had been messaging with Cory on Wednesday with questions I had so there was even dialogue between us beforehand. There is no cell reception at the cabin location, so we had to drive back to the interstate. Every call I made to Cory failed and my panicked messages sent through the VRBO app went unanswered. We spent the next hour on the side of the interstate with VRBO customer service. They were also unable to reach Cory and unable to find us another rental as he owns most of the properties in the area. I almost did not book the cabin due to other reviews warning he was hard to get ahold of. I wish I would have trusted that intuition.VRBO did refund our money but we were still two women alone and stranded in a remote location with no cell service and a host who completely ignored us. The whole experience was the worst possible outcome I can imagine outside of any of us being physically hurt.

Solitude

We were looking for a place to get away for new years and the Trout Lodge delivered. No traffic, no city lights, just a hot tub, a nice stream, and peace and quiet. This was my first Vrbo rental so I was limited on experience with how the process works. The manager took care of things we needed, but was a little slow in responding. I recommend bringing your own fire wood and kindling to get started unless the wood that is offered had been put inside to dry.The fire place is pretty small but functions great and met my expectations. The hot tub was fantastic when it was 25 degrees outside. Portside Supper club was about 20 minutes away and had great food. Our German Shepard had plenty of room to roam. All in all it was exactly what we needed after a recent death in the family. We got the hot tub, got to set the mood with the fire place and was able to Propose to my girlfriend on new years! We will always remember the Trout Lodge and plan on a trip in the future!
