About this property

Ashwood Chalet - updated A-frame with traditional Stowe ski-house allure!

Please review the House Rules, Important Information, and About the Host sections prior to booking this home.

The Ashwood Chalet is an updated A-frame home featuring all the right additions and upgrades for an excellent stay—location, space, comfort, and style—while retaining its traditional Stowe ski-house allure.

A large entry on the ground level of the home welcomes you to the Ashwood Chalet. Additional spaces on this level include a bunk room, bathroom, laundry, and great rec room complete with pool table and a vintage record collection to enjoy. Upstairs is the hub of the home. The galley style kitchen is ample and well-equipped and features a door to walk directly outside. The dining area, with its ornate table and chairs, is fabulous with floor-to-peak windows and doors to walk out to a deck with peek-a-view mountain views in the winter. An adjacent living room boasts a great wood-burning fireplace, comfy furnishings, TV, bench seating and another deck with BBQ grill and patio set for enjoying the outdoors. A full bathroom and cozy guest room with cottage-like vibe are toward the back of this level—a perfect spot to tuck into at the end of a day of fun!

On the upper level, a nook with views out the windows in the peak of the A-frame is perfect as a workspace or for your morning yoga. Next to this is the spacious primary bedroom. Light, bright, and lovely, this space offers a king-sized bed, beautiful wood floors, and double closets.

The Stowe Hollow location of this home is excellent—it offers peaceful seclusions yet is central to the bustling village of Stowe with myriad amenities and only ten miles to Stowe Mountain Resort. Just minutes down the road are Emily's Bridge (a covered bridge with a story!), as well as the Stowe Pinnacle, and Kirchner Woods—such a bonus to have two beautiful and popular hiking and snowshoeing trails so close by!

Disappointed

Our first impression was poor and it did not improve. Mildew/moldy smell assaulted us upon entry. Uncomfortable furniture made watching a movie, playing games, eating not enjoyable. Threadbare poufs. Only 6 towels, one hand towel and four washcloths for 4 adults over 3 nights. Pool table is uneven, balls chipped, and one cue with a tip on it. Lamps not working, dull ceiling lights made it dark. Stained tablecloth.

Disappointing

Lots of little things added up to a not-so-perfect stay. Upon arrival, the house smelled very musty, so we opened up windows to air it out. The days were chilly and rainy, and we discovered the heat was not working. The property mgmt. company sent out a maintenance person who found the heating unit had been completely disassembled and he could not fix it. The mgmt. company told us to use space heaters and they would be in touch. However, no one followed up until I touched base the following evening. They told us they had not been able to reach the owners and could not do anything to fix the heat. In addition, there was some kind of rodent active all night either in the walls or on the roof of the main floor bedroom (squirrel? mouse?), which made for very uneasy sleeping. There was no evidence of it in the house, but the scratching and shuffling were persistent all three nights we were there. Add to that some dirty items in the kitchen (the coffeepot being the worst), and it just made for a not ideal stay. The property could be a nice one, but it requires a lot more maintenance and upkeep than what it has been given so far.
