Just south of Hoosier Pass, where the Continental Divide can be crossed, lies Placer Valley. Not far from Breckenridge and stunningly at the foot of some of the highest peaks in Colorado. This pacific neighborhood - Placer Valley - is named for the gold mining done in it flowing streams. Panning and other methods used to find gold washed naturally from rock is called the "placer technique" (placer is pronounced plass-er). Here, there are many waters that could have been placer mined. Quartzville Creek comes together with Moose Creek and adds to the upper reaches of Middle Fork, the middle fork of the South Platte River, which meets the North Platte somewhere in Nebraska and eventually flows to the Missouri River.

Mount Lincoln, Bross and Democrat are 14ers that form a cathedral-like backdrop for Placer Valley. All can be climbed from roads accessed through Placer Valley. These 14ers are a popular "bag in one day" treat for those hikers who are trying to ascend to the peak of every 14-thousand plus mountain in Colorado.

You will most likely need a vehicle. In the winter months from November to April you will need AWD/4WD. The road is gravel and county maintained/plowed, but will be snowy in the winter months. We do not provide a towing service or cancellations if you are unprepared for the winter weather. We do however understand things happen, and will do our best to work with you.

You'll be within minutes of world-class skiing, hiking, fishing, off-roading, white water rafting, mountain biking, and restaurants. Gold Medal trout fishing with public access in the South Platte River.

Free Shuttle Bus pickup at the entrance of Placer Valley to you to Breckenridge and Summit County! Pickup, Drop-off at HWY 9 & County Road 4. GOOG "The Park County Commuter" for routes and times.

Ranked #7 on Evolve's best places for a ski property in 2023. 25 mins to Breckenridge, 50 mins to Arapahoe Basin, and 45 mins to Copper Mountain.

Amazing place with great views of the mountains
The house was perfect for our stay. The view is amazing. And the hot tub was a great experience in the winter mountains. The owners express a lot about taking care of the hot tub and straping it down every time. This makes sense as they are correct that the hot tub is a main feature and makes the stay more enjoyable for everyone...

Cozy and Quiet
We enjoyed our stay! We spend a week skiing in Breckenridge each year after Christmas and stay somewhere new each year. We wanted to get away from the business of town and stay somewhere quiet this year and the house was perfect for that. We really enjoyed the wood stove, and we stayed cozy all night. We had everything required for a comfortable stay, and when we had a request for more bedding and fire starter it was brought over quickly. Our only suggestion would be the addition of a toaster to the kitchen and a larger coffee pot! But we made it all work.

Magic of the mountains
Cozy place with all the amenities you need. Bring an axe with you so you can split the firewood into tinder for the wood heater.

Cozy Cabin
The place was perfect for our weekend girls trip from the city. The location was great and we were able to easily catch the free shuttle from Alma to Breckenridge so we got to explore both mountain towns. At the cabin, we really enjoyed the wood burning stove and the roomy hot tub. The large open kitchen was also nice, especially with a group of girls that like to cook. The only reason I can’t give a perfect score is due to the communication. As I mentioned, we like to cook and there were 6 of us that stayed 3 nights. We went through the two dishwasher tabs that were provided and as we finished loading the dishwasher on our last night, we realized we were out of tabs. I reached out to the owner to let them know that we ran out. I didn’t ask for anything, rather it was me just letting them know for housekeeping the next day. The response I got was pretty snarky, and to the effect that we get what we get and we’re responsible for anything additional. Normally we totally would have gone out to the store to buy what was needed - no big deal, by the time we realized we were out it was too late to go into town to get more tabs and we were leaving first thing in the morning. I just think the response could have been nicer, even if they wanted us to hand wash the dishes or make a trip to the store to buy more tabs.

Broken dishwasher
We arrived to find the dishwasher full of dirty smelly dishes, as the dishwasher was broken, there were puzzle pieces scattered on the floor and couch, and the to french doors were not closed properly, causing the floor and every flat surface to be covered in dirt. So we tried to reach out to the property manger through the email and never received a response to 3 emails, so we cleaned the house, washed the smelly dishes and hand washed our dishes through out our stay. Then we find that the shower in the upstairs bathroom does not drain well leaving a nasty soap scum in the shower. When my daughter went to bed she found that all of the pillow cases on the first floor had dirty paw prints on them. We had to use the pillow cases from the 2nd floor futon for them. It was a rough start but it really is a great house and would stay there again if these issues we corrected.

Amazing Stay
This is the most peaceful area and quaint house, I could not imagine a better place to stay. I didn't want to leave. Close enough to Breck but far enough away to see the stars perfectly. We even saw a moose and her baby on the way into town.

This cabin is exactly what we wanted to escape the heat and get away from the city with the family. Step outside and hear the creek/river; quick drive to fishing or Breck/Alma; hot tub under the stars....really was great and cannot wait to return! If you need it, internet was very fast.

Stay in Alma
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay. The location was perfect and the views were outstanding. The owner was very responsive to a few questions we had. The only minor issue with the property was the cleanliness of some rooms. For example, as soon as we walked in, we noticed crumbs were left on parts of the kitchen counter and on the dining table.

Best place to stay if skiing Breckenridge
This place was an absolute dream. I take a skit trip every year out west and I always love trying new places. This place I have to say was out of the ordinary very cool. Every last detail was considered by the owner. We had a fire every night, watched movies, and slept like babies. When we were ready to to leave at 7:30am, the roads were groomed and ready for our departure to the mountain. Your right there on the main pass to Breckenridge, but your off the path just enough to feel and be completely remote on a real Colorado ranch, surrounded by beautiful scenery and tons of moose and wildlife! If your going up way check this place out!

Thanksgiving 2023
We spent Thanksgiving in the mountains this year and chose this property because of the location and pet friendly listing. Cute little cabin and overall did not disappoint. We especially loved the wood burning stove in the living room, which we made good use of. And it added an ambiance to our thanksgiving meal. The owner communicated in a timely manner when I reached out. Craig even had snow cleared the first morning of our stay as we woke up to a winter wonderland. The property had everything we needed, the only down side was that despite extra heaters placed in each of the rooms, and many additional blankets, it was very cold in the upstairs master bedroom especially. Also, some things could have been more updated or replaced. For example, the dishwasher that had so much hard water build up it looked dirty (but wasn’t); the downstairs toilette looked like it hadn’t been cleaned, but it turned out to be rust and/or permanent stains. Same with the bathtub. That said, a few things could have been nicer considering the cost per night, but overall, we enjoyed the property and would go back again.

What makes this property unique

Huge Open Space and Main Floor. 30 ft Vaulted Ceilings. I see reviews all the time of people in cramped cabins. Our space is perfect for your whole family. Makes you feel cozy while also being immersed in the mountains.

Surrounded by "14ers"! Your backyard is a mountain getaway. 6 ft Picture Window makes you feel like the Mountains are inside. Our first guest said "the trees and mountains look CGI." It's that good!

You'll be within minutes of world-class skiing, hiking, fishing, off-roading, white water rafting, mountain biking, and restaurants. Gold Medal trout fishing with public access in the South Platte River.
