Why they chose this property
This place is very special to us as it is in the Historic Independence Heights neighborhood of one of our favorite culinary cities! As we continue our journey of exploring and working on the road, we are excited to share our home with you. At Casa Azul, you will feel tucked away in your own cozy retreat, just miles away from the best restaurants and diverse experiences that Houston has to offer.
Independence Heights was incorporated on January 25, 1915, with a population of nearly 600, becoming the first African-American municipality in Texas. George O. Burgess, a lawyer born in Milligan, Texas, in 1876, was elected the 1st Mayor of Independence Heights. Burgess Hall, named today and located at 700 E. 34th Street, was the City Hall Courthouse until 1919.

What makes this property unique
Casa Azul was built in 1940 on a pier and beams. It is a shotgun-style home with all of the common areas on one side. It has been renovated thrice, most recently in 2017, when the primary bathroom was added.
As the neighborhood continues to transition and redevelop, Casa Azul is unique and part of the neighborhood’s history.
