About this property

230 Acre Farm with Private Pond

Experience contemporary living in a beautiful Vermont country setting. Fielder Farm offers a unique and stunning Vermont vacation rental home in the heart of the Green Mountains.

Relax in our post-and-beam, monitor barn home. Everything you need to make our home your home is provided. Let the gracious living area and professionally equipped kitchen inspire the host in you as you invite family and friends to enjoy a sunset from the second-floor windows or take a long soak in the hot tub after a day of your favorite winter activity.

On 230 acres, the Farm has its own backcountry trails, a sledding hill and with a little shoveling, the pond becomes your own personal ice rink. Access to the Catamount Trail is right out your door. Snowshoe to the top of Little Baldie then ride your board or skis home.

The highlight of the lower farm is the Pond. Surrounded by acres of maintained lawn, the Pond is the heart and spirit of the Fielder Farm. It provides an unlimited source of entertainment throughout the year and attracts even the most reticent of visitors. The water is deep, clear and irresistible. Stone steps and rocky outcrops make entering and exiting the water easy and pleasant in the heat of summer and getting on and off the ice hassle-free with your skates in the winter.

Guests enter the Barn on the ground floor through the Mud Room featuring a native slate floor, dozens of cubbies in a variety of sizes and ample wall space covered with hooks. No matter the season every guest will find more than enough space to stow personal gear.

As you climb the stairs to the second floor Living space your attention is immediately drawn up the custom post and beam frame to the arching bridge and Monitor ceiling 25 feet above. A half a dozen windows along the eastern wall offer a brilliant view of the pond, lower pasture, and mountains beyond and fill the space with light throughout the day all year long. This light is the perfect complement to the natural finish on the heart pine floors. The thoughtful arrangement and open design of the second-floor living space allows a number of activities to carry on harmoniously.

Paying close attention to the details can make a big difference when it comes to using a kitchen day-to-day. The owners of the Barn are keen chefs who spent months cooking in this kitchen. The Kitchen combines elegance and functionality, blending Vermont granite and butcher block countertops, heart pine floors with stainless steel appliances and wood cabinets. The social space encourages casual interaction and provides a bird’s eye view of the meadow and stream below.

The Kitchen is open to the Dining area and the view beyond. The extendable table allows seating for 10 with room for two more at the kitchen island.

Glass doors behind the dining table open onto the spacious deck making the gas grill convenient to the kitchen all year long. It is also the perfect platform for the 6 person hot tub.

Two bedrooms with similar appointments off the second-floor living space make sharing the Barn uncomplicated.

The Loft bedrooms are accessible by a modified ship’s ladder. Each Loft has 3 built-in twin beds, a walk-in closet and plenty of built-in drawer and floor space.

Perfect Winter Getaway!
We had a fantastic stay at Fielder Farm! The property was covered in a beautiful blanket of snow, making it a true winter wonderland. The home is spacious, cozy, and well-equipped, especially the kitchen. After skiing and hiking the trails, soaking in the hot tub was the perfect way to unwind. The hosts were friendly and helpful, and their dog, Ahab, was a delightful bonus. Highly recommend this place for a peaceful Vermont retreat!

Another Great Stay!
This was our 3rd visit to Fielder Farm and it was wonderful as always. Although we had hoped for some snow, we had a great time hiking, relaxing by the wood stove and enjoying the hot tub. Our group included tweens through grandparents and everyone had a great time! We will definitely book again.

The property is beautiful! Perfect place for a retreat. The spring water pond and hot tub are so refreshing and we enjoyed our walks. Really appreciated the well-stocked kitchen and sufficient amount of towels and linens. Re: communication, we were grateful for how fast Sarah responded, but personally would have loved receiving a digital copy of the (very helpful) visitor guide before arrival rather than only once on-site so that we could prepare better :)

Fantastic place to soak in the best of Vermont
I live in Vermont and gathered a bunch of friends from out of town in the Barn for a few days at Fielder Farm. We had an excellent time. The property has a great mix of mountain views, green pastures, trees, and water features. We loved hiking in nearby Camel’s Hump State Park. We loved hanging out in and around the pond for an entire day. We loved using the farm as a jumping off point to explore Waterbury/Stowe (30-45 min away) and the Northeast Kingdom (90-120 min away). The hosts were very present and available, but also kept some distance and gave us privacy. I hope to come back with my kids and other families we know!

Magnificent
Tranquil, beautifully manicured ,pastoral setting with a great wide open feel. Lovely pond and pasture. Really beautiful craftsmanship in house. Very clean and new . Very nice hosts and neighbors. Location was perfect for a relaxing getaway with many trails and rivers nearby. Just what the doctor ordered. Wouldn't quite call it a 4 bedroom as loft style upstairs beds a bit hard to access with downstairs bathroom.

Beautiful location and home
We had a great stay at the barn! Great sledding hill, trails for hiking, snowshoeing and skiing. If the pond was frozen we would have been out their skating too, next time! The hot tub was great after an afternoon of sledding but some stayed in for the toasty wood stove and hot chocolate! Lots of books and cozy places to curl up and read. Our hosts were very helpful when we had questions. Definitely a place I would return to. Thank you for having us!

Bucolic and lovely!
We had an amazing stay at Sarah & Burt’s gorgeous barn. It is just as beautiful and tranquil as the photos show. Our kids loved catching frogs and polywogs in the pond. Easy access to nice hiking trails, and a lovely place to come back to and relax. Truly a great library inside, as well! That was the unexpected bonus. Communication with both hosts was easy and helpful. We would love to return!

Eclipse at Fielder Farm
My extended family and I booked this beautiful property for the 2024 eclipse and we couldn't have been more pleased. The barn is so bright and beautiful and well maintained and decorated. It easily fit our party of nine adults and teens. It is a very open plan home with the coolest walkway for the upstairs bedrooms. The property has a cute little pond for fishing and a gorgeous view. We were there in mud season, so we didn't walk much, but it looks like lots to explore. The hosts are the warmest, friendliest people. I would highly recommend this location and I hope to get back here myself.

First thing we did was jump into the pond, spectacular property and the scenery was lovely. Hosts were helpful, friendly and welcoming and we look forward to many more return mini-vacations at their property. We will miss the swallows and bull frogs singing to us, and the cows joining us for coffee or cocktails. And don’t forget to buy the homemade maple syrup by the 1/2 gallon, goes great on oatmeal and in your morning coffee.

Beautiful Vermont vacation
We spent our August vacation week at this beautiful well appointed “barn” in Huntington. Don’t let the term barn fool you, this well appointed and cleverly designed barn is an architectural work art. The personal touches inside give a glimpse into family farm life and the library is wonderful. The owners, Bert and Sarah, were gracious but not intrusive. They provided us with excellent information about the surrounding area and were quick to respond to any questions we had. Ahab, their Belgian Tervuren, was a wonderful companion for hikes up the mountain and for sitting by the pond watching the cows or reading, drinking in the natural beauty. So relaxing , Would highly recommend this property as a hub for exploring, hiking, fishing or just chilling. We hope to return soon for another visit! A big thank you to Bert and Sarah and of course Ahab Respectfully submitted, The Cardin Family

A fantastic house, in a beautiful location.
If you're looking for a quiet, beautiful place in which to have a relaxing holiday, look no further. The barn is fantastic - clearly a lot of love and effort went into its design. We are a family of five, and had more space than we knew what to do with. The barn was well stocked with everything you might need - Bert and Sarah even managed to find us a cool box for a picnic, and a ball for the boys to kick around. We managed a trip to Burlington, which was lovely, but in the main were happy to relax at the Barn and soak up the fantastic view. Pride of place in this review must go to the pond, which we all swam in every day, and the hot tub. We toured New England for four weeks, and the pond was my 10 year old son's favourite part of the whole trip. We'll be back back as soon as we can! Andrew, Anita and family.

Quick getaway
I want to start off by saying how absolutely beautiful the house and property was. The kids had a blast fishing, running around in the yard and playing with the chickens. The house is not user friendly for really young kids but we made it work. Also, I think every ladybug in the state was at and in the house lol. I would definitely go back and stay there.

Immaculately kept, very fun property was just what we needed. The pond is a little too cool, but it is northern Vermont. Hot tub made it great. Fun place to cook and read a book. Not very close to Burlington but it's a very pleasant ride to town. Terrific place all around.

A stunning spot for a retreat/lovely hosts
This was an idyllic spot. The pond is bliss, the views, too, watching the clouds move across the mountains. Taking in the stars from the hot tub was glorious. We felt very far away from everything, in the best possible way. Our hosts, Sarah and Bert, were wonderful. The kitchen had everything one could wish for, and when we asked for the slightly out of the ordinary (we were baking a birthday cake), Sarah swiftly provided a cake pan! As well as eggs and home-grown veggies... The property, and the walking available to guests without having to get in the car and drive was incredibly special. The care Sarah and Bert bestow on the place is impeccable. The barn was a beautiful space in which to spend a few peaceful days. And we so appreciated their incredible library. A splendid collection of books! We would come back in a heartbeat. The only reason we didn't give Fielder Farm 5 stars is because we happened to book right before a big wedding, and the preparations for that event were fairly mammoth, and ate into 1.5 days of our 4-night stay. Long hours of mowing intervened, breaking the lovely quiet, and ultimately making us need to get out of the house, even though for the rest of our time we'd been perfectly content to stay put. We understand the need for maintenance, and the challenge of timing mowing around weather, etc. And we appreciated the apology we received on departing, but I would say that a warning and/or a discount would have been the way to go. Perhaps in the future, best to have a buffer day when preparing for such an event. One other thought: the view is so lovely, we would've loved to have had access to a small table on the terrace, to dine outdoors on those beautiful evenings. But overall, a very special place indeed!

Beautiful Property - Very Peaceful
We had an excellent time and really enjoyed ourselves. The pond and lands are well kept and great for a family gathering - and while it's a little "out of town" (which is what we wanted) ... it's only 15-20 minutes to restaurants, bars, etc. so you're not really even that far out. Mornings are beautiful.

Our stay at The Barn was absolutely wonderful. The surroundings are beautiful, calming, and accessible. The accommodations were unique, comfortable, and set up to accommodate a large group. The kitchen was particularly well appointed and we really didn't need anything. Sarah and Bert were gracious hosts who left us to do our events but we knew we could contact them with any questions. We truly enjoyed seeing this part of Vermont and would recommend Fielder Farm to anyone. We hope to come back again. Thank you, Sarah and Bert!

We stayed at Fielder Farm the first couple weeks in March. We found the property to be absolutely wonderful, beautiful in character, immaculate in cleanliness and properly stocked for all of our needs. Sarah and Bert were gracious hosts and made themselves available for all of our needs. Our boys really enjoyed exploring the property, inside and out. Another Wonderful Stay!
This was our second stay at the farm and it was as wonderful as the first. We spent our days snowshoeing on the trails and sledding down the hills right outside the barn (which I think the adults enjoyed even more than the kids). We also enjoyed reading by the wood stove and relaxing in the hot tub. Sarah and Bert were wonderful hosts as always. The day we arrived, they invited us down to the sugarhouse and showed us how they make maple syrup. The process was super interesting and the syrup was the best we have ever tasted. We look forward to visiting the farm again soon!

About the host

Hosted by Bert and Sarah Dickerson

Host profile image
Bert Dickerson was born in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He moved with his family to Jericho Ctr. Vermont at the age of five when his parents both took faculty positions in the English Department at the University. Upon graduating from Mount Mansfield Union High, Bert returned to Chapel Hill and the University of North Carolina to complete his education.
One fateful day after graduation, while recovering from a Dead concert on the Mall in Washington DC, Bert met Sarah.
She was a girl from Rome, educated in Athens (both in Georgia) on her way North in search of…. something else. “You ought to go to Nantucket?” Bert suggested. He had been spending summers there his whole life and was returning to work for yet another summer with no real plans for his future. Sarah thought that sounded pretty good so she drove on to Hyannis, took the noon boat and never looked back.
They got married in Siasconset a couple of years later and dove headfirst into island life. “It’s like a trade school,” Sarah said. “Anything you ever wanted to learn to do, you can learn it here.” And they did. Working a variety of jobs between them – restaurant work, carpentry, bookkeeping, house cleaning, landscaping, and event tent assembly - they even learned to make bagels.
As busy as they were they managed to have two kids, Angus and Mary Jo, and renovate their first home on Surfside. After twenty years they were exhausted. “We need a break” they both agreed. “Remember that piece of property we bought when we first got married? It’s near my Mother, and the kids will go to the same high school I went to.” reckoned Bert
So in 2001, they moved. Bert was home again. Sarah was happy and to sell the idea of leaving Nantucket to live in Vermont to the kids, they all got snowboards.
Angus and Mary Jo both graduated from MMU just like their father and moved to Boston.
They spend most of their time now working together on various projects around the farm, snowboarding in winter and gardening in summer.

Why they chose this property

The road to Fielder Farm gently winds its way out of the Huntington Valley and into the foothills on the western side of Camel's Hump. The road follows and crosses one of the many mountain brooks swelling the Hunting River as it rushes for the Huntington Gorge downstream. Passing through the tree line at the top of the ridge the view breaks wide open revealing pastures, pond and the mountain ridges beyond.
Regardless of the season, the diverse landscape occupied by the Fielder Farm offers visitors a variety of activities right out the front door. To access the Catamount Ski Trail follow the fence line. It’s just 300 yards from the Pond. Old farm and logging roads that have been reclaimed and maintained over the last few years offer exceptional views of the Adirondacks, Lake Champlain, and Camel's Hump. The Farm and its surrounding hills are yours to explore!

What makes this property unique
