This downtown home was painstakingly renovated to highlight its historic character and is a proud recipient of the Historic Staunton Foundation's 2021 Residential Rehabilitation Award.

The kitchen has all the equipment you'll need to cook for your entire group, and includes stainless appliances and a gas range. Essential herbs, spices, salt/pepper are kept well stocked. Complementary locally roasted coffee is provided.

Each of the 3 bedrooms features a king-size bed with deluxe foam mattress, en suite bathroom, phone chargers, bluetooth / white noise speaker, and large original sash windows with oversized blackout curtains.

The living room and each bedroom feature a smart TV (with Netflix, Amazon, Youtube apps). The living room also has a work desk with office chair as well as foosball table.

The house has excellent wifi in every space as well as outdoors, thanks to 600-mbps fiber optic internet.

Staying in Staunton

We had a great stay in Staunton, one of our favorite towns. We usually stay out in the country, but this time we chose to stay in town. Loved the house...loved the location. And thanks to Chris for being such a great host to work with.

Downtown Classic

The house was clean, not overstuffed with furniture, and plenty of bathrooms. Nice big table downstairs that accommodated board games and 1000 piece puzzles. Bedding was nice with plenty of pillows and blankets.

Work trip with family

This downtown location was perfect for our family with easy access to downtown and Gypsy Hill Park. Great skate park and playgrounds. The house is very modern and clean. A lot of thought and care was put into this property. Thank you Chris!

My family and I enjoyed our stay. The home was well equipped with everything we needed and more making our stay very enjoyable and stress free. My kids loved having a variety of games to choose from as well. We stayed in and cooked most evenings in the spacious kitchen that was stocked with all essentials. I highly recommend this property!

Lovely home but hard to access

My family stayed here while visiting me in Staunton and they enjoyed the space. It was the perfect size to meet up and share some meals while they were in town. However, the property itself was a little hard to access. With how close street parking spots were to the driveway, it was impossible to fit two cars into the driveway and I always had to resort to street parking. Getting into the house itself also proved challenging - the front stairs are quite steep and my father felt unsteady without a tight grasp on the handrail.

Wonderful Week at Newtown Retreat

We had a wonderful stay! Very nice place! Loved the quality of the house. The kitchen was well stocked and there were nice little added touches like umbrellas that came in handy one day. All the friends and family that visited during our stay also loved the place. We would absolutely stay there when in the area.

Historic Staunton House

Recently renovated, just outside the main shopping and restaurant downtown area, the house was extremely clean and stocked with everything a traveler might need. Location was easy to find, check in and out was simple, and double lock door was secure and safe. The ambience of the interior was fresh and comfortable. I would definitely recommend this house if visiting historic Staunton.

Beautiful stay!

We had a great visit - Chris was an excellent host who always responded promptly. The home is clean and a close walk to everything in downtown Staunton and is a nice drive to hikes in the area and Shenandoah NP. I hope to be able to visit again soon, and would definitely want to stay here again.

A Must-Stay in Staunton!

One of the best rental experiences I have had! This house was perfectly lovely. It had everything we needed, including toiletries. The kitchen was well-stocked with kitchen tools & gadgets. We stayed here while visiting family in Staunton. What a delightful experience. The house was clean and beautifully renovated with comfortable bedrooms and kitchen with all the amenities. Some street noise during the daytime but quieted right down at night. We would definitely stay here again!

ABSOLUTELY PERFECT!

This property is AMAZING. The house is beautiful and spacious. The location is phenomenal. It is close enough to downtown Staunton to make for an easy walk but still feel secluded and removed. The beds are deliciously comfortable and it has all the amenities you could ask for. I would definitely stay here again.

Staunton Convenient to Everything

This historic home is just down one of Staunton's main residential streets from Mary Baldwin University. The house has been completely restored in a modernist style. The kitchen is both appealing and functional. The parlor area has adequate seating for several people. The bed was quite comfortable. I should note that our host, Chris was a great communicator and made extra effort to ensure we enjoyed our stay..

Lovely house; excellent owner

We really had a great stay here. The house has been completely (and beautifully) renovated. Though it's sited quite close to the street, we had no issues with noise - which says a lot, considering we live on 40 acres of woods in northern Vermont. The house has pretty much everything you could ask for. It's centrally located in a safe neighborhood and within walking distance to a number of restaurants & cafes. We enjoyed some DELICIOUS pizza at Pizza Luca as well as yummy tacos and burritos at Chicano Boy Taco. We also visited several local attractions and hiking areas. The owner was very responsive to our questions and checked with us a couple of times to make sure all was good during our stay.We've stayed at a number of vacation rentals and highly recommend this one. We wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

Perfect Retreat

This house is perfectly set up for guests. everything we needed was at hand, even some things we didn’t know we would want, like chargers for all sorts of devices. How this place manages to balance the. Victorian charm of an older home with every modern convenience you’d want is astounding. It was clean and well stocked. The location si an easy walk to all of downtown but out o the way enough to be quiet. Honestly, the view f sunrise from the front porch and living room window is worth the price alone. We couldn’t have been happier with this property.

Work trip

This was a work trip for myself and my crew of 2. This house was way beyond expectations! If more stars could be given, I would. House was very clean and kitchen exceptionally stocked with full set of pots and pans, and dinner ware for at least 8 people. Location is great as it is a half mile from downtown Staunton. This neighborhood is very walk-able and quiet. I will definately stay here again.

Historical Charmer

From the moment we arrived, we loved this place. Lots of space to spread out and three en-suites! The kitchen was a joy to use and had everything needed for family dinners for four. Restored extremely well … no wonder this place won an award. The only drawback was the parking … a Tahoe takes up pretty much the whole space, although we managed to squeeze in a small VW. We would definitely stay here again. ❤️

Successful birthday weekend!

Each year we take our mom on a girls weekend to celebrate her birthday. We have stayed in various VRBO listings over the years, and the Newton Retreat has by far been our favorite. Right from booking, the property manager was accessible for any questions we had about our upcoming stay. The communication continued throughout our weekend stay. The place was beautifully decorated and clean. We were comfortable all weekend and enjoyed relaxing evenings at the house after walking around historic downtown Staunton. We loved our stay here and would definitely recommend Newton Retreat to anyone looking for a weekend stay that felt like “home.”

I'm a real estate investor focused on breathing new life into historic buildings and creating outstanding experiences for curious explorers.

My wife and I moved to Staunton from Washington, DC in 2014 to raise our family in this special historic town. Back then Staunton was really still a hidden gem, a rare walkable town bursting with character and potential, smack in the middle of some of the most beautiful mountain countryside in the nation. It seems the town steadily gains notoriety each year. And it’s safe to say there are now more things to do here than a couple of parents with two kids can even hope to take advantage of. It’s a magical place to spend some time!

My obsession with design, construction, historic buildings, and real estate runs pretty deep. I have master’s degrees from Columbia University in architectural conservation and from VA Tech in urban planning. I worked in consulting for several years helping colleges and universities build and renovate facilities. Later I became a partner in a fast-casual restaurant start-up, handling facilities and guest experience.

Here in Staunton I have been doing endless renovation work, including full gut rehabs. I’m especially excited to have partnered with one of my closest and oldest friends to take on a number of projects we believe will have a lasting transformative impact on the community. And creating unique experiences with Short Term Rentals is a big part of that.

I believe good design has a profound impact on people, and there’s so much work that needs to be done to leverage and improve what we have. Intentional real estate investment is a powerful tool to make that happen. It’s hard and very rewarding work. I’m having a blast.
