The owner was very responsive and friendly. It was our own fault for not getting the gate code before we left, as we don't have a cell phone. However, once we got the gate code we still couldn't get in and were only able to access it through the neighbor's gate. The lodging is very nicely decorated in a great vibe! It was also very comfortable and clean. The train mentioned in earlier reviews was very close and loud. I managed to sleep through it but it woke my husband several times. Also there was heavy construction next to it that started at 6 am and went through 6 pm. I don't know what they are building but it was very loud. It's not in the host's control but it was extremely jarring. We came to Austin because our old dog was visiting a heart specialist, and we always like to support hosts with funky and artsy accommodations. Also, I spent my young adulthood in East Austin. I know it's been somewhat gentrified in the last 30 years, however there was still a panhandler knocking on our car window in the lodging's parking space as we were leaving.I think this lodging would be perfect for the younger set or heavy sleepers. Unfortunately it did not provide us with the relaxation we needed.
We chose La Casita on 7th because it was near my son’s home on the East side. The location turned out to be beneficial for many reasons including its proximity to restaurants and Austin sites. There are two rentals inclosed by a fence . Ours was in the back and included everything we needed. The bed was very comfortable and the bedroom has a door that can offer some privacy if someone sleeps on the futon. There are two TVs. There is a food truck on the property with the most amazing and friendly owners well as food and coffee . Cross over the tracks to walk your dog in the cute neighborhood. We enjoyed our stay very much.

Needs new smart locks
The location was great, close to bike rentals and food. But the 1st night for us didn't go great. We had gotten checked in just fine, dropped our stuff off and then left to hang with our sister. Little did I know the electronic lock on the Casita didn't work with either of our keys or code given during check-in and none of the Info mentioned that we shouldn't lock that deadbolt. Called and messaged the owner but he was on a flight at the time. Called VRBO and they didn't have the code so we had to walk to a hotel and stay there a night. We were able to have it comped but the experience was still not a great way to start a trip. I would leave a higher rating otherwise. Please get new electronic locks.and make sure VRBO has a back up code or give another emergency contact.
La Casita is a charming cottage in a quiet part of Austin but within walking distance of 6th St. it was well air conditioned which was definitely needed on a very hot weekend. The aforementioned trains did not bother me.
I enjoyed the secluded cozy nook created by the host. The place was easy to access, clean, and welcoming. The layout of the little house allows to compartmentalize work, food, and sleep. It has a street car railway right by which may be problematic early in the morning. Thank you for hosting me.
