Our guests enjoy the sunrise (watch as the watermen bring in their catch) AND the sunset each night with a spectacular vantage point for star gazing. Opportunities to walk, jog, bike, kayak, canoe, bird watch, collect beach glass, go crabbing, photography treks, right from our doorstep and dock.

Coffee/tea on the front porch is the way to begin your day, watch the nesting ospreys near the front of the property. Our yard ends at the BAY, with a huge fire pit, benches and chairs to enjoy the view. Play badminton, horseshoes, fly kites, etc. (provided) or just sit by the bay, watching the sunset and the cruise ships pass by. Two docks one w/ small boat lift for putting your small craft into the Honga River, so bring your kayaks and canoes! There is a public dock "put in" to launch your larger watercraft, and then use our dock to “park” during your stay.

The island has plenty of crab picking houses for FRESH just picked crab for your culinary creations. Or catch fresh crabs to cook your way, we provide small crab pots for you to try crabbing from our dock & steamer to cook them in!

We strive for Hoopers Island Bayside Haven to truly be a "get away from it all" location, we do have WIFI and BASIC DISH TV w/ Netflix and you can add your own streaming services. We have plenty of books, DVDs, games, and puzzles. The Island, the Blackwater Refuge and the new National Park Harriet Tubman museum are the local sites for you to enjoy during your getaway and there are more in Cambridge and in nearby Easton.

Old Salty's is our local (within walking distance) seafood restaurant, where you can meet the locals as well as the folks that drive from various parts of the Eastern Shore to eat here. (Open Wed-Sun) Like them on Facebook to see what entertainment they have during your stay.

You may rent kayaks/canoes or go on a charter fishing boat tour, or just a scenic tour, right on the island. The land is flat, perfect for biking or going for a long walk from bridge to bridge.

We have crisp cool 100% Cotton linens, organic and/or made in the USA when we can find them. We steam clean all soft surfaces (pillows, mattresses, cushions, etc.) between guests, to keep down the allergens and just to offer you a comfortable stay. All bedding is encased in bug proof, allergen free materials. We are picky about where we stay, and apply these standards to our vacation rentals as well.

Beautiful retreat
Perfect spot to rest and recharge and base your Chesapeake-area visit. The location is lovely, with access to both the Chesapeake (beautiful sunset views!) and the Honga River (beautiful sunrise views!). Apartment was perfect for my visit, and Debi and Steve are generous and accommodating hosts. They provide numerous amenities in this lovely and spotlessly clean space, with beautiful views of nature at your doorstep. I recommend this space and these hosts completely. Thank you for a lovely visit!

A mixed bag
The amazing location of this property is spectacularly let down by the dated shabbiness of the apartment. The colour scheme of orange and way too much brown, made me not want to spend any time in the place. It also felt very claustrophobic. Also in this modern age, you should be able to use more than one appliance without blowing a fuse, which did happen. I did like using a code to get in, and the owners were easy to contact for any problems. The bed was great. A small investment in this property would make this a great place to stay. The electrics definitely need an upgrade.

Quiet getaway.
My husband and I enjoyed our stay. Property and area are beautiful, great views and very comfortable. Loved relaxing on screened porch. Only restaurant "Old Salty's" on island is an easy walk, food was good, great drinks and outside area. One small grocery store, so make sure to bring everything else you need for meals.

Shhh...I little slice of heaven
I found it. I stumbled on that little sliver of heaven. The place to go to connect with nature and disconnect from the world. Fishing Creek is a tiny fishing town on the eastern seaboard next to the Blackwater National wildlife refuge. It’s a town on Hooper Island with the charm right out of a Harlequin book. The drive to Hooper goes along miles of farming and grass/wetlands. You feel like you are in the middle of nowhere. Probably because… you are in the middle of nowhere. lol We stayed on a narrow stretch of the island that had about 8 houses that have both a front and back dock. Our basic but super cute studio faced the Tonga river sunrise and the Chesapeake Bay sunset. It is the smallest, quietest town I have ever stayed in. It has a couple great seafood restaurants, a marina and a general store. It’s a place where you don’t want to tell many people about because you don’t want to see it to change one little bit. On our drive in we saw two large bald eagles on top of a tree. We both got excited. Little did we know that this area is one of the largest gatherings of bald eagles on the east coast. Everyday we would try and count how many eagles we could find. We average @8 with 15 being our highest day. It was spectacular! The area is known for fishing, crabbing, miles of kayaking, hiking and biking since the terrain is so flat. If you are looking for shopping and more dining options, you are only a drive away from Oxford and St. Michaels. Thank you for sharing your studio with us. It was just what I needed. We will definitely like to return. Maybe when the swans migrate through. Now that would be amazing to see. Best, Tom and Lori Bethlehem PA

Great location, perfect for us
Everything was great! The bay side dock was perfect for sitting & relaxing. The welcome basket came in handy for snacks when we went kayaking or cycling - thanks for that! The area was perfect for what we were looking for & we utilized the water trails and cycling routes in and around Blackwater Wildlife Refuge. Thanks again Deborah for a wonderful stay!

Lovely studio by the bay
If you want a quiet, comfortable and clean studio apt this is it! Great location on Hooper’s Island, which is close to....nothing. But that’s the point! Although it’s a small space it never felt cramped or crowded. The bed was super comfortable, there’s a table for dining and a futon couch for hanging out or watching TV/videos. We brought DVDs but would have been satisfied with the video library. And there’s wifi. The owners made extra effort to create a welcoming space for visitors. The screened in porch was comfortable and there are lounge chairs for hanging out by the bay (no shade in the outside spaces). We brought bikes and rode everyday, either to the end of middle Hooper (a beautiful ride along the bay where there is even more nothing) or drove to the Blackwater Nature Reserve and rode around there. Only drawback: as a vegetarian I needed to prepare my own food and the kitchen was not very conducive to cooking. Bring it if you think you’ll need it.

Fabulous
My husband and I located this awesome rental nearly by accident. We needed to be close to Cambridge where the Eagleman event was being held. Sadly the event was canceled and we decided to go on vacation anyway. Lucky us to stay at Hooper's Island Fishing. Fantastic in every way. Small fishing community, friendly people. Great eating at Old Salty's! ! ! Cant praise that eatery highly enough. Little grocery store a mile away. A great boat ride with Adam from Hooper's Island expedictions, MARVELOUS experience. Dont miss the Kayak Adventures near Black Water Refuge. Take a bike ride on the Refuge trails. Cambridge grocery and eateries 23 miles. We are so thankful to have found this lovely rental .

Awesome 4th Getaway!
This was our first time visiting Hooper's Island and will not be our last. Perfect spot for relaxing, bike riding, fishing from the pier and enjoying fresh seafood dinners at Old Salty's, The Haven was perfect! Very clean, nicely decorated and had all the amenities needed for our getaway including a wonder welcome basket filled with goodies for or stay. Debi, our hostess was great and her attention to detail spot on. I would highly recommend Hooper's Island and The Haven.

A great place to unwind from our busy lives
I wish we had more time to stay! The studio is very charming and whimsical with lots is space and great amenities for 2 people (it will comfortably fit 3 adults, as well). The owner is very responsive and has thought of the smallest details to make your stay comfortable, from the welcome basket to the clean sheets left for a nap on the porch :) The weather was cloudy and rainy from time to time but we managed to ride our bikes through the Blackwater Nature Reserve (a 7mile loop), a beautiful place which you must visit. The new Harriet Tubman museum is another stop which you should consider to learn why this brave woman will be on the $20 bill starting in 2020. If you plan to dine on Hoopers Island, note that the General store cafe and the local fixture, Old Salty’s Restaurant (open wed-sun) both close at 8pm. Also, cell phone connection will be spotty, with AT&T and Verizon giving us better results than T-mobile. All in all a wonderful 2-day stay! Would love to come back again!

My enchanting Hoopers Island stay!
The peace and beauty of my stay at the Haven warm my winters days! I'd return this minute if I could to the sunrises over the Honga River from the front lawn and the sunsets over the Chesapeake Bay from the back lawn. In the center of this scene is the sparkling, colorful Queen Anne cottage, sweetly appointed and equipped with every amenity. Walks past the crabbing and oyster boats, the nesting ospreys and the town's fascinating architecture enhance the fun. Good restaurants, great near-by shopping, national parks, wildlife refuges, bike trails and vineyards add to the adventure! Go! You will love it!

Relaxing spot for a babymoon
My husband and I visited Hoopers Island Haven to celebrate the two of us before we become three in October. The living space was plenty big for us. There was wood available for a couple of bonfires. Great location for sunsets, sunrises, stargazing, bird watching, and crab cakes! Ole Salty's was a treat, Blackwater Refuge was pretty and made for flat hiking with nice views. The only thing holding back from 5 stars was the bed left us both a bit achy. Owner was also very responsive and helpful throughout the entire process - great experience!

Hoopers Island Bayside Haven in Fishing Creek
Excellent location on the water. Plenty of room in this flat to relax. No worries about kids or loud families disturbing you here. Locals are super friendly. Store nearby for supplies. Also some nice restaurants. Only wish we could have stayed longer. Winding road. Great for bikes, running or walking. Very scenic.

Perfect base for exploring Dorchester County
We brought our bikes over 1000 miles from the mid-west to ride the quiet roads of Dorchester County. Hooper's Island Bayside Haven was the perfect base for our adventure. The apartment was neat and clean, spacious, and had everything we needed. And, it is in one of the most beautiful spots in the world. It is so quiet we could hear the wings of birds as they flew over. As and added benefit we could see about 10 osprey nests fro m the dock across the street. The bike ridinng was superb - low to no traffic, flat roads, peaceful, eagles, osprey, herons, .... I would definitely stay here again and I would recommend it to family and friends. Thanks!

Wonderful spot for Eagleman 70.3 or IMMD
This is a lovely studio apartment. It was very clean, had plenty of room, and is in a beautiful, quiet setting. Perfect sunsets from the back yard. In addition to having all the basics, there were a lot of movies and books to stay occupied on a rainy night. It was a very hot weekend, but the fans and window A/C kept the place cool and comfortable. Note there is no WiFi and my cell signal wasn't very strong inside. I stayed here for Eagleman 70.3. It's about 40 minutes from Great Marsh Park in Cambridge. It's an easy drive (even early on race morning, just keep an eye out for deer). I really liked being slightly away from all the race chaos. There is a cute general store and Emily's produce/farm store is awesome. It's between the apartment and the race site and has everything you need for healthy pre-race fuel and lots of tasty treats to celebrate after. Debi was a great hostess - very responsive with questions and provided a lot of information on the area.

Beautiful place on the shore!
The apartment had plenty of room for the three of us, had everything you could possibly need and a few extras that were very thoughtfully left for us. The fire pit was fun at night and star gazing is particularly awesome - so many bright stars! Very relaxing and yet there is plenty to do. We loved kayaking at the blackwater refuge! Amazing wildlife at blackwater and at Hooper's Island. Enjoyed reading about the history of Hooper's Island too. Great weekend!

We live in Philadelphia, but own two wonderful vacation rental properties as well as our home, Philly Bed and Bagel, that we share with you, our guests. We love to travel and we love hosting people in our home. We strive to offer you a comfy and cozy vacation experience We are self maintained, although we do have a local handyperson on call in Hoopers, because we want to respond quickly to any issues or concerns.

We love meeting new people and providing tourism information tailored to your needs. We try to offer a blend of comfort and simplicity within our decor and in our amenities. We pride ourselves on keeping our properties clean and updated, and are constantly on the look out for feasible ways to improve.

Why they chose this property

We bought the Haven several years ago as a place for our family to get away from it all and enjoy the outdoors. We loved watching our children enjoy the water sports, my son working on his sailboat, and combing the 'beach area' for sea glass, biking and walking around the island.

Our children could roam around the island without a care, as it is a very safe and quiet location. The roads are flat, easy to bike or walk on, and the water is perfect for kayaks or canoes, and not so deep you that need to worry.

In our fast paced lives, we all need a place to just 'be' and for us, Hoopers Island Bayside Haven is just that. We hope you will also enjoy the opportunity to relax and enjoy the scenery.

What makes this property unique

The ability to watch the sunsets every night, and sunrise when we get up early enough. I can not stress this enough, we never tire of the views, and even if I'm cooking, I take a minute to look outside as the sun goes down.

For me personally, there is nothing better than getting up early, making a cup of tea, grabbing my book and sitting on the front porch on one of the rockers and watching the boats come back in. Bliss!

We also really enjoy having friends over at night and building a fire and of course having some drinks while we relax and catch up.

My 'book club' enjoys all of the antique and thrift shopping within an hour's drive, wine tasting at Layton's Chance Winery and ending the day at Salty's for crab dinners and Hoopers Island Ice Tea. They look forward to the trip every year, the 'club' is growing because of this 'field trip.' We now have added marking off the various "stops" on the Harriet Tubman Trail as part of our annual book club week.
