Fabulous retreat....

This is a really great place to be on the edge of Samara. A really thoughtfully designed apartment which lacks nothing and a virtually private pool (nobody was in the second apartment during our stay) which has again been cleverly constructed. Ideal location away from noise of village but only minutes away from beach & centre. Wildlife from balcony & at pool amazing, Howlers, Motmots & bats...

We would stay there again!

Very clean, a nice swimming pool, a short distance to walk to the ocean and the owner Debra takes great pride in her property and helping the guests have a good experience.On the porch she has a shower and faucet to wash the sand off which is a very good idea. We loved the layout of the house. The only negative is are a few noisy motor cycles that go by.

Pura Vida

We stayed here for 3 weeks during February. My favorite things: motmots and iguanas at the pool, (pool was our private oasis the whole stay), taking the bus to Playa Carrillo (my favorite pristine beach for swimming), easy walk along Samara beach to town for dinners or Saturday farmer’s market, encountering Howler Monkeys along the way. Husband LOVED the local fish market. We really appreciated the fast internet and reliable A/C. Deb was a great host- she was very hospitable and responsive.

Another great stay!

This was our second time staying at Mardelindo Apartments - our first time in this unit. We had a wonderful time. The location is perfect for self sufficient travellers - close to the beach and a small village with a convenience store and pescaderia, and about 15 minutes walk from the center of Samara. The apartment was private, clean and comfortable, and has a well equipped kitchen. Our host was accommodating of our early arrival, and responded promptly when we ran out of propane for the barbecue.

A Haven in Costa Rica

I need to start by thanking Deborah and her partner for being so gracious, responsive and thoughtful about what most travelers would need to enjoy Samara. My airport transfer was pre-arranged. The loft-style apartment is beautifully decorated and fully furnished with every amenity. The salt water pool was a little oasis steps from the front door. I truly appreciated the accuracy of the listing and the amount of detail included. All-in-all, a perfect vacation home within walking distance to everything.

Amazing stay

This property is beautiful. The apartment was clean, had all of the appliances that I could need during my stay. The host checked in with me to make sure I made it in okay. The private pool area was very nice. It was more like staying at a friends home, than renting an apartment from someone. I highly recommend this stay

Loved Our Vacation

We stayed in apartment #2 for 2 weeks. We loved the apartment. It had everything that we needed. The AC was a huge bonus as it was extremely hot while we were there. The pool area is lovely with all kinds of birds to watch. The pool is shared with the other apartment, but most times we had it to ourselves. Our walk to the beach only took a few minutes. Most days we were greeted by a family of howler monkeys..a highlight for us!! Our host Deborah was kind and responded quickly when we asked for advice on shuttles or excursions. We recommend the zipline tour located below the apartment. We spent a morning with the zipline crew who were professional, kind and made the day alot of fun. As mentioned in other reviews, the road noise was the only drawback, but it didnt really bother us much as it slowed down at night. We would happily stay at this location again.

Lovely, but road traffic so close and loud.

The property was lovely. But the road was just so close, loud and so very busy all the time. The hosts were incredibly nice and loved all the friendly folks we met in general along our walks through the area toward the beach.

Beautiful Samara!

Had a great trip to Samara! Beautiful little town, beautiful beach, we really enjoyed exploring it, and its surroundings. Deborah and Peter were great hosts, and we would often meet them when we went to the beach to watch the sunset in the evening. As mentioned in other reviews, the vehicle noise is a drawback, other wise the property met our expectations.

Wonderful apartment close to the beach

My partner and I stayed for 7 nights over New Year in this apartment. We were thrilled when we saw it, beautifully presented with everything we could possibly have needed. We could have lived there. We were there to relax after 2 weeks of travelling around Costa Rica so I didn’t want to be cooking, we ate out every night so most of the kitchen was wasted on us. But we did utilize the fridge freezer and the three ice trays. The fans and air con were also very useful. I loved the entrance porch with shower for cleaning up from the beach before you went in the house. It was great having the laundry facilities as well after 2 weeks travelling. The pool (which is shared with the other apartment) was a bonus and the water was very refreshing. The location is great. There is road noise but nothing that kept us awake. Worse were the barking dogs – seemed to be trying to outdo each other and at all hours. If you don’t have a car then access to the town is down the beach – so do make sure you have a torch. It’s a 15min walk. We wouldn’t have wanted to be any further away but this was fine. The nearest shop was quite small but had the basics. There are bigger supermarkets in town if you have a car or can get a taxi back. Deborah was a wonderful host. She lives very locally with Peter and we often saw them on the beach for a chat. Overall we loved our stay and would highly recommend the apartment.

Excellent Value

This property is a duplex above the office of Wingnuts canopy tours. We stayed in #2. The apartment was lovely and as described. The pool was in its own spot across the driveway. We had it all to ourselves as the other apartment was unoccupied. Other visitors have commented about the noise of the busy road and they are correct, however nothing that ear plugs could not handle. The apartment is equipped with most everything except a hair dryer (which I found to be liberating) and good beach chairs which would have made our trips to other beaches in the area much more enjoyable, but definitely not a deal breaker. This property is about a 15 min walk to town on a very beautiful beach or a $4 taxi ride. If you have a car even better. All in all this is a lovely property at a good price.

Beautiful apartment on very noisy street

Deborah was extremely communicative and gracious host. Unfortunately we left after one night due to the road noise, and intermittent electricity/AC. The apartment is beautiful, spacious, close walk to beach and town. It is on a very busy road with two bus stops right in front and traffic at all hours of day and night. Be prepared for street noise.

Incredible Experience!

Absolutely incredible all-around. Deborah and Peter are excellent hosts and live one minute down the road, should you need them. We never had any issues, but it was comforting knowing they were close by, in case we did. They were happy to answer any questions and were always easy to get ahold of via call or text. They are professional, cheerful, welcoming, fun, and kind. Great people make any stay much more enjoyable! The apartment is stunning, has a fully-stocked kitchen, powerful AC unit, fast WiFi, hot water, washer and dryer, and is extremely spacious. It feels like a house! The on-site pool area is so beautiful, tranquil, well-maintained, private, and even has its own high-speed WiFi! The pool is always perfectly clean and is the perfect size with varying depths - perfect for any age. The beach is just a 3-minute walk from the front door and is also gorgeous! From the property, you walk down a short dirt road and are all of a sudden on the beach, which spans miles. Once you hit the beach from the dirt road, take a right if you want to head toward the beachside restaurants or go into town. Take a left if you want to head toward a much more secluded, private-feeling part of the beach. You can’t go wrong either way! The center of town in only a 10-15 minute walk down the beach or a 5-7 minute bike ride. A huge perk of the property's location is that you do NOT need a car. Everything is walking/biking distance, plus you get to enjoy a nice walk/bike ride on the beach every time you want to go into town. I could go on and on, but I’ll end by saying that we HIGHLY recommend this outstanding apartment and all it has to offer. Whether you’re here for a short vacation or a long-term stay, you will love every minute of it. Thanks again for sharing your slice of paradise with us, Deborah and Peter! We would be honored to stay again!

Paradise

We stayed for 9 nights and loved every minute. The apartment was very clean and well appointed. The location for us was perfect! The walk to the beach took about 2 minutes and maybe 10 minutes into Samara. We woke up early and walked the beach everyday before going into town for breakfast. It was cute being escorted to the restaurants or the beach by the local dogs. Waking up each morning to roosters, and other birds was so relaxing. The traffic outside of the unit was very loud, but to be honest, we were in town or exploring the area most days so it didn’t bother us. And at night, we were still able to fall asleep without a problem. So for us, the traffic wasn’t a deal breaker at all. The howler monkeys let us know they were there every afternoon and it was great to see them hanging out in the mango trees! We rented an ATV and had so much fun exploring the area and meeting people along our way. The apartment is close to a mini super (convenience store) and a fish market and we had fresh fish during our stay. We also took a cooking class with Christine at Christine’s Tropical Garden and it was amazing and so much fun! We ended each day with a dip in the pool to cool off, which felt amazing after being in the hot sun all day. Such a nice bonus to have the pool. We don’t usually leave a review for various stays we have been to in the past, but felt that this stay needed one. The apartment and pool area are both beautiful, Deborah was friendly and responsive to any of our questions, and even stopped by to say goodbye before we left! It is definitely somewhere we would return to when we visit again! Thank you for helping to make our stay so wonderful!

Amazing Vacation spot!

We stayed here for 7 nights and it was awesome! The pools is great we spent a couple afternoons just sitting by the pool in the heat and jumped in to cool off. So relaxing! The apartment was clean and the air conditioner worked well. It has everything you need for appliances, dishes and such and a laundry room with washer and dryer and a drying rack. Comfy bed. The walk to the beach was less that 5 minutes and the walk to town on the beach maybe 10-15 minutes. The ocean is pretty calm here and its the perfect beach to safely take a surfing lesson which we did and was awesome! They are some great restaurants in town that we had a couple of special meals at and enjoyed a fire show. Otherwise we bought groceries and made most of our meals. We found Super China was the supermarket with more selections. It's quite big. Our only complaint which wasn't a huge deal to us since we got used to it quickly was the traffic noise. It died off in the evening. We had howler monkeys move through the trees one afternoon which was cool as we were hoping to see some. And there are so many interesting birds around and some big iguanas to take pictures of. We would book again. Thanks Deborah for being an awesome host!

All the Comforts of Home - But Better (No Snow)

The unit is absolutely beautiful as shown in the photos. It is beautifully decorated and the kitchen has every appliance you need. It is literally a 2 min walk to lovely Samara beach. Walking along the beach to the town is relaxing and in town there are lots of restaurants to enjoy and mercados in which to shop. The pool is gorgeous, really perfect. If not for the road noise which can be loud from 6 am until evening and lumpy pillows, I would have given Deborahs place 6 stars. Deborah was very responsive and great to deal with. We hope to return .

Ticked All the Boxes!

Deborah was a wonderful host; she quickly responded to any questions. Everything we want in a property this has. We are not condo or resort type people, as we like our privacy, and as there are only two apts at this property, it's very private. As the road is down a slope, no one can see you. The pool is used only by the two units and there were many days my husband and I had it to ourselves. I loved watching the birds in the woods overlooking the pool, the mot mots were especially a treat to see! The only reason I gave the location a 4 star is because of the road traffic and dogs barking sometimes at night. You are truly in a Tican neighborhood. Bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper. We have never been in a place that has so much to offer for such a reasonable price. Beach a 10 minute stroll way, city centre about 20 minutes along the beach. We've already booked for next winter!

Great stay on samara

A beautiful apartment, close to the beach with a wonderful Salt water pool. It is located on a very busy street, and there is noise from traffic and the neighborhood dogs.

An apt with all you need for comfort

We loved how close the apt is to the beach and town. No need to rent a car if you enjoy walking along the beach 10min each way. And there is a convenience store just across the road which was great to pick up beer and snacks to enjoy by the pool. The private pool oasis was much loved after a morning at the beach. Deborah is always very hospitable and receptive to messages or requests for recommendations. This was my second time staying here and would definately return again and for longer!

Great stay at Deborah's place. The apartment is spacious, comfortable and well kept. It is about a 12-15 minute walk to town on the beach. I was usually able to get a taxi home at night. Deborah was a great host. Samara is a really wonderful area to explore.

fantastic!

The apartment was clean and perfect for the two of us. The kitchen was fully equipped to cook anything you needed. Two full baths with ample towels and linens. It was great to sit on the balcony in the morning with a cup of coffee and read! This is a small property with only one other apartment so the WONDERFUL pool area is very private. Owner was very helpful! Also less than a two minute walk to the beach. Excellent Wifi if needed for work. Oh and once you get to the beach it is a short walk to downtown for breakfast, lunch, dinner or drinks. etc.

My husband and I moved to Costa Rica from British Columbia, Canada in 1982. We fell in love with this area of Guanacaste, bought our farm and settled here. In the following years we raised our family of four children and developed a canopy (zipline) tour on our farm. Widowed in 2006, my children and I are dedicated to conserving the dry tropical forest on our lands, sharing the local wonders with tourists from around the world, and as of 2011, offering convenient and comfortable accomodation for travellers.

Why they chose this property

In 1982 Samara was fairly isolated but with pristine local beaches... Carrillo, Samara, Camaronal, Buena Vista. Lush and filled with wildlife, there was also enough community here to offer an interesting local school option for our very young children.
Nowadays Samara has all the conveniences of good roads, modern telecommunications, shopping options and a core community of Costa Ricans whose way of life still embodies 'pura vida', i.e. connectedness to the surrounding natural beauty and a 'laid-back' lifestyle. Samara Beach is world-renowned for its safety as a swimming beach. Our community offers a popular local language school, massage school, yoga classes, surf schools, a spa, as well as all ocean-related activities including seasonal whale and dolphin-watching.
