Birthday Celebration

My wife grew up visiting Lake Burton and hadn't been back for a while. The cabin was the PERFECT location for her to revisit her memories and create new ones. We wouldn't have changed a thing. The cabin is beautiful, comfortable, and in a prime location. We would love to come back.

Great weekend

This property is perfect for a weekend getaway! The house was beautiful and we walked to the Chophouse both nights for dinner overlooking the water. We brought our boat but you can easily rent one for a great price. Such a great deal for all that you have access to within walking distance!

Relaxing and Comfortable Retreat

We had a wonderful time. It was a central location for all the activities we were invited to for a family wedding. It was restful and comfortable. Great kitchen. The description and pictures showed the house very accurately so we knew what we were getting; it is very well maintained and extremely clean. I would definitely recommend it to friends and relatives, in fact if I get a chance to go back to the area I would rent it again myself. My mother and I were there together. It is not so far from others that I was uncomfortable with just 2 older women there alone. She is 87 and walks with a cane; but, could get around quite easily. There are only 2 steps to get into the front door and none at all once you are inside the house. The only thing that would have made it better was if a couple of limbs mid-level of the trees in front were removed so that the view of the lake was better-but that is a minor point in an otherwise great house. The lower limbs do a good job of hiding the road.

Cozy Cabin for a Weekend Getaway

My husband and I had the pleasure of staying in this cute, cozy mountain house to celebrate our 9th wedding anniversary. We love to fish so the location close to the beautiful LaPrades marina was perfect. The house was very clean and homey. The accommodations were excellent. The kitchen was well equipped and stocked with basic seasonings etc. We felt like it was home away from home. I would recommend this cabin to anyone seeking a relaxing getaway! Thanks to the Nichols' for sharing their home for others to enjoy and relax!

What a great cabin!! Wonderful rental and easy check-in. House was clean and well stocked with everything you would possibly need except for clothes and food! They have a super stocked kitchen with spices, coffee, dishes and cookware. It was great meeting Robert and learning about the history of the area and Laprades! We LOVED the house and area and will definitely rent this house again!!! Than you Robert and Mary for sharing your wonderful home!

Home Away From Home

What a beautiful home! Very well maintained and updated. Everything you needed to stay comfortably was there. All we had to buy was food, some condiments were in fridge so that helped for the things we had forgotten. We used the marina just about everyday to launch our boat. Easy to access. LaPrades ChopHouse has excellent food. We had lunch and dinner there and really enjoyed the atmosphere and food. If you plan on dining there on a Friday or Saturday evening, make a reservation. They do tend to fill up quickly on weekends. Same thing with Laurel Lodge if the outside isn't available. Reservations are helpful. We enjoyed exploring the area and taking in all the wonderful mountain views. Helen was a quaint little town- definitely do the tubing, Cool River is the best. We will definitely visit again!

Nice cabin, unorganized rental situation

The cabin is very nice, it offers a great location with walking distance to the Marina. However, we reserved and paid for the cabin a few months in advance and the cabin was not ready or cleaned for us when we arrived. Shocking...because I contacted them three days earlier to confirm our reservation and ask how we get a key etc ( because they did not contact me....seems unorganized right???) We pulled up at 3:30 for our 3:00 check in and the cleaning lady pulled in beside us. She was never even told the cabin was rented. Not a great way to start your relaxing getaway. Anyway....the cabin is great, the lake is beautiful, but you will run the risk of confusion with your rental of this house

A delightful cozy cabin with everything that you could possibly need. The view of the lake from the big window in the dining area was nice and enjoyed by all. Really enjoyed our time here and can't wait to come again!!!

Just Perfect!

My wife, 21 year-old son and I spent a couple nights here last week to attend a wedding at a local lake house. None of us could have been more pleased with our stay. The home was super clean, the beds very comfortable, the décor beautiful, the space more than ample and the appliances were all top-grade. To top it off, the location is perfect, especially if you want to be near a marina and one of the best places to hangout for drinks or dinner directly on the lake...LaPrade's Chophouse. Both are a short and easy walk from the house. We would easily recommend this place for anyone.

Beautiful house with great location

We had a wonderful time exploring Lake Burton, Lake Rabun, several waterfalls, and visiting Tiger Mountain Winery. So handy being across the road from Laprades Marina. We were able to launch our small fishing boat with ease. Every evening we walked across to the marina to people and boat watch before heading back to the house to cook our dinner. The home is beautiful, spotless and well appointed. We had a very relaxing and rejuvenating getaway.

Beautiful Vacation Home!

This Lake Burton cabin is all you want a mountain/lakeside vacation home to be and so much more. A friend and I enjoyed a wonderful weekend in the cabin: it was ultra-clean and had absolutely everything (and more) that we might want to make the weekend a relaxing one. We sat by the fire, read, cooked, and enjoyed visits to places in the near vicinity. The owners of this cabin have really gone out of their way to make their guests feel at home. All the basic necessities are in the kitchen and the bathrooms are fitted out with just the kinds of things you might accidentally leave at home. From the moment we inquired about the cabin until the moment we left, the owners were helpful and responsive. We'd go back in a second.

Fantastic place to have a getaway

It's not often that you find a place that is better than you would expect, but this cabin is just that! My wife and I decided to get away from Florida for a week of cool weather and chose to stay here. From the moment we walked in, we felt at home. This is not a rustic cabin in the woods, but rather a nicely renovated small home with a great mountain feel. Grocery stores were close enough (about a half hour away) so we cooked in most nights, but also ate out in Clarkesville. Clayton is the easiest to get to and from there you can be in the mountains of North Carolina in 20 minutes or so. If you are into hiking this is the place to stay. It served as our base camp for a full week of fun. Both sat tv and internet are included, so we were able to stay in touch. In warmer weather, the cabin will be perfect with Lake Burton and the marina right across the street, although we didn’t enjoy the lake due to the time of year but are already planning our return. Stop searching now and book this cabin. The pictures just don’t do it justice in my opinion.

A perfect, quant cabin

My friends and I recently stayed in this cabin. We were all more than pleased with the whole experience. From the beginning to the end Mary was extremely responsive and helpful. She has such a kind, sweet spirit and will go above and behind to make the experience a blessing to all involved. The cabin was very CLEAN and absolutely beautiful. I love the big windows facing the lake. It is a nice place to drink coffee and observe the surrounding beauty. The bed was comfortable and towels were extremely soft. Everything was very good quality. It was such a special weekend spent with friends and one that will always be a special memory. I highly reccommend this cabin and am confident that anyone who spends a weekend there will not be disappointed. It was such a blessing to us.

About the host

Host profile image
Mary and I first met on the original LaPrade's resort property in 1973. My family owned LaPrade's and Mary came to work prior to her fall semester of college. Thirty-seven years later, our paths crossed and we eventually married May of 2010. Family time is precious to us. The cabin at Lake Burton has been a special place for us to make memories with our daughters and their families.

Why they chose this property

This property holds sentimental value as it intertwines with our personal history. We initially crossed paths on the original LaPrade's property in 1973, which my family owned and managed for three decades. In 2010, while preparing for our wedding, we refurbished this home, formerly the residence of the LaPrades' head farmer.

What makes this property unique

Nestled amidst the tranquil creekside setting of the original LaPrades property, our retreat offers a perfect blend of seclusion and convenience. Enjoy easy access to outdoor adventures with LaPrade's full-service Marina nearby, offering boat rentals, dining, and shopping. Embark on scenic drives around picturesque Lake Burton, Lake Seed, and Lake Rabun, with detours to marvel at Minnehaha Falls. Nature enthusiasts will delight in the proximity to Moccasin Creek State Park and Burton Trout Hatchery just two miles north. Hikers and anglers will find themselves in paradise, with close proximity to the Appalachian Trail, golf courses, trout streams, and lake fishing spots. Despite its tucked-away feel, our property remains conveniently equidistant (only 18 miles) from the charming towns of Helen, Clayton, and Clarkesville, GA, ensuring that dining and entertainment options are never too far away.
