Welcome to Bear Necessities Lodge, your tucked-away mountain retreat perched at 9,712 feet on Angel Fire Resort’s ski mountain. Set on a private acre that backs up to a tranquil greenbelt and away from neighboring homes, our cabin offers intimate views of distant mountain peaks and delightful encounters with local wildlife.
Just 5 miles from Angel Fire Resort, Bear Necessities Lodge offers the perfect balance of seclusion and easy access to year-round adventure.
With three private king bedrooms and a cozy loft with two twin beds, Bear Necessities Lodge is perfect for multiple couples or a multigenerational family. Thoughtfully designed across three levels (ground level, main level, and upper level), the home offers stunning views, modern comforts, and inviting spaces to relax—but keep in mind that accessing the home and moving between floors involves stairs.
GROUND LEVEL (GARAGE & LAUNDRY AREA): The garage features a full-size washer and dryer (detergent provided), a chest freezer, and a ping-pong table. Parking is available in the spacious driveway, with room for an ATV or boat trailer.
MAIN LEVEL (FIRST FLOOR OF THE CABIN): Step into the welcoming main level, where two private king bedrooms provide a restful retreat, each with nightstands, dressers, and 50-inch Smart TVs. A full bathroom with a combined tub and shower serves this floor. Gather in the cozy living room by the wood-burning stove (with complimentary firewood) or enjoy entertainment on the 70-inch Smart TV with a soundbar. The fully equipped kitchen and dining area make meal prep a breeze, featuring a dining table for eight, bar seating for four, and modern appliances, including a drip and Keurig coffee maker.
UPPER LEVEL (SECOND FLOOR OF THE CABIN): Upstairs, a private king bedroom offers peaceful views of the lush greenbelt. The loft, with two twin beds, is perfect for kids or extra guests. A large picture window provides glimpses of mountain peaks in the distance. The top-floor bathroom includes a jacuzzi-style bathtub with a handheld shower massager—perfect for unwinding after a day of adventure. (Please note: this bathroom does not have a shower.)
OUTDOOR LIVING: Enjoy fresh mountain air from the wraparound deck, complete with rocking chairs, a dining area, and a pellet grill for cooking up your favorite meals. As the sun sets, gather around the Solo stove fire pit, surrounded by six chairs, for a cozy evening under the stars. Look for local wildlife, which often passes through the greenbelt behind the cabin.

COLFAX COUNTY BURN BAN IN PLACE: Colfax County has issued a burn ban effective immediately as of 03/25/25 due to high fire risk conditions. As a result, smoking on the premises, using the Solo stove, and using personal charcoal grills are not permitted at Bear Necessities Lodge. Please stay alert, report any signs of fire by calling 911, and take precautions to stay fire-safe. Thank you for your cooperation in protecting our community.
POSSIBLE CONSTRUCTION NOISE: A house is being built on the lot next to ours as of January 2025. During your stay, there may be some construction noise during daytime hours. We appreciate your understanding.
VEHICLE REQUIREMENTS: Since this home is located up a mountain, 4-wheel (4WD) or all-wheel drive (AWD) vehicles are required during winter.
SECURITY: Cameras are located outside the property for everyone's safety and benefit, facing the stairs of the deck, the driveway, the propane tank, and the parking area. There are no cameras located inside of the home.
HEATING/COOLING: Angel Fire’s mild summers mean A/C isn’t standard for the area, but we install a window unit in the living room during warmer months for added comfort. Ceiling fans in all bedrooms, the living room, loft, and covered deck, along with screened windows, help keep things cool. In winter, a central furnace and wood stove provide cozy warmth.
WILDLIFE SAFETY: This property is home to various wildlife, including bears, mule deer, turkey, and elk. To ensure your safety:
- Store all food securely and do not leave anything outside.
- Make noise when outside to avoid surprising any animals.
- Do not approach wildlife.
- If you encounter a bear, stay calm, talk in a normal tone, and slowly back away. A bear spray can is in the downstairs linen closet next to the first aid kit.
- Do not leave any items in your vehicle, including food or scented products, as this can attract bears.
Disclaimer: Hosts and owners are not responsible for damage or injury caused by wildlife.
ANGEL FIRE RESORT ACCESS: Guests at Bear Necessities Lodge can enjoy Angel Fire Resort’s amenities for an additional fee, paid directly to the resort.
