Nestled within the breathtaking landscape of the Weminuche Valley Continental Divide, the Ludwig Cabin offers a front-row seat to the dramatic vistas and ever-changing scenery that define this beautiful region. From the tranquil valley floor to the rugged mountain peaks that soar overhead, every angle offers a new perspective on the landscape that surrounds you from alpine meadows to dense forests, each contributing to the rich tapestry of life that thrives in this pristine wilderness.
Constructed in 1908, the Ludwig Cabin stands as a historical gem, embodying the warmth and charm of a cozy homesteader's abode.
Renovated with care, this rustic retreat offers four bedrooms and three full baths, creating an inviting haven for smaller groups of 5-7 guests. The cabin's Western attitude adds an extra layer of character, enhancing the overall experience.
Start and conclude your day on the expansive deck, where you can soak in the breathtaking vistas of the Weminuche Valley and the majestic San Juan mountain range. Whether you're sipping your morning coffee or stargazing in the evening, the deck provides an idyllic setting for relaxation.
Embracing modern conveniences, the Ludwig Cabin comes complete with amenities such as wifi, a fully equipped kitchen, a functional fireplace, and a washer/dryer. These features ensure a comfortable and convenient stay, blending the charm of the past with the comforts of the modern day.
You will have the entire property to yourself, with historic cabins and an old barn to explore. There are many nearby trails to hike, fishing in the Piedra river (walking distance from our property or a short drive away).
With all this being said, this remote location does come with some inconveniences. This cabin is in the wilderness. While we work hard to manage mountain critters, you can expect to see the occasional mouse or insects in the cabin. As the saying goes, there is no stopping Mother Nature.
Additionally, during the winter months, the Ludwig is a great home base for activities for those seeking adventure in the snow. Guests can enjoy activities like snowshoeing through the serene landscapes, cross-country skiing, photography or simply cozying up by the fireplace with a cup of hot cocoa after a day of winter exploration. The Ludwig Cabin transforms into a winter wonderland, providing a perfect backdrop for creating lasting memories amidst the snow-covered beauty of the surroundings.
