About this property

Magical Clarion County Church Renovation

A very romantic space! The perfect atmosphere for the writer or artist. The large, open great room is inviting for yoga and exercise practice. A former church, this renovation has maintained a peaceful and meditative quality.A good place to make or listen to music. .Small back porch with a table and chairs.,Dogs are very welcome and the back porch area has a fenced in area they seem to like!!!!.Pretty bathroom with shower. The kitchen counter was once the counter in the old country store in the village of Lawsonham. The woodwork is beautiful and the high ceilings give one the feeling of freedom .The many windows invite the outside in. Come and rest a while, create, enjoy! So very close to the Lawsonham Rails to Trails entrance.Great opportunity for hiking and bicycling.!

Take me to Church - Literally! But not in a good way!
We were intrigued by the restoration and architecture which prompted our stay. Very disappointed by the cleanliness, discomfort of furniture/beds, and insufficient AC that didn't cool to a comfortable level to allow for restful sleep. Listing doesn't mention that the "two bedrooms" are without ceilings, just a wall divider between them. It also doesn't show or mention the extensive amount of large religious statues and memorabilia that are in your face during the stay. It is very noisy with constant loud traffic all night long on the highway that is 10ft from the building, very disruptive. The host; Mary called the landline phone multiple times daily starting at 9 am during our stay. The WiFi is worthless/unusable and shouldn't be included as an amenity! Not a serene or peaceful stay at all and we actually departed more exhausted than when we arrived!

Lovely Spot
The church is delightful. We loved the feeling of time and history there. The space has a wonderful feel to it, and the outside spaces are delightful as well. The stone circle is also great. I got some wonderful pictures of one of the dogs in the stone circle and both dogs on the nearby trail playing in the creek. It was a short but wonderful stay!

Wonderful Stay!
Everything about our stay was outstanding! The house was unique, comfortable, well-equipped and relaxing. The location is quiet and relatively secluded, with friendly little towns and great food just a short hop in any direction. Just an all-around great experience!

Exceeded Expectations
We had so much fun it reminded us of our separate childhoods. The grounds and pathways behind the church were straight out of a storybook. Absolutely incredible untouched piece of heaven. We came on a beautiful week where the sun was shining and the grass was green. Mary was wonderful and showed us her Incredible art collection. 75/5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Great accommodations
Mary was an excellent host and the sweetest woman. She called us before our arrival so she could meet us there and let us in, then called again just as we were about to leave to wish us safe travels. The entire property is gorgeous and well kept. Will definitely book this one again.

Weekend getaway to see the 2024 Solar Eclipse
Loved the way the church redone to be living quarters. Airy and spacious. We don't have dogs but there is a small fenced yard if you do. House in right on the road but there is little traffic. Very close to the Redbank Valley trail. Enjoyed the views of the woods and watching the deer and birds. We stayed here to be within a much more reasonable driving distance to see the eclipse (which was amazing, btw) and to keep some distance from crowds. We enjoyed hiking the nearby trail (12.6 miles total) and want to come stay again to explore more of the trails around the area.

Great space!
Awesome place in the country - just up the hill from trail head w bike/hike trails going in three directions. Can hear the rapids from the house. Great space around the house, loads of room and privacy! It is the country, expect some country critters - also, it is hard to find a place that takes our hounds - two large dogs - fenced in area for dogs as well. We'll be back over the summer w our bikes - Paul and Linda of Middlefield OH

Ethereal.
This is our second time staying at this lovely, place. Mary is so welcoming to her absolutely beautiful property. The entire vibe to the building, the surrounding grounds, the various towns a few miles down the road feels like home. The only downside is that it isn’t closer for us to get to more often. Our pups enjoy being”country dogs” for a few days too. We cannot speak more highly of our time here. It’s just simply good for the heart, mind and the soul.

Unique and Special
Check in was easy. Mary was awesome. Spends time touring and giving you history of the property. Helped me really appreciate where I was staying. Property has everything you need but food. Mary also supplied a welcome gift and coffee for the Kuhrig. Also a few treats foe my dog. Fenced area, along with about a 1/4 to 1/2 mile worth of trails right on the property make it ideal for anyone who has a dog. This is a truly unique property. You have to appreciate this property for what and where it is. Its a very old church with amazing original woodwork and doors ect. So yes there is gonna be some dust and a random cobwebb. Its part of the charm of it all. The natural light from all the windows during the day. Is only equalled by the light games you can play at night with these ceilings and some candles. Property is less than 1/4 mile from entrance to Redbank Valley Trail with majestic setting and bakdrops for hiking or bike riding For me this place is 12 out of 10. Like I said its unique. I will be back, often ... you kinda have to stay here and see if you love it as much as I did.

Refreshing and unique!
Mary created a unique space that is at once peaceful and refreshing. The sounds of nature lulls you to sleep, the soft light dances throughout the space, and all the artistic details honor the history of the church. It was perfect for Ti Chi, yoga and reading, cooking and crafting. Excellently stocked kitchen, spacious bathroom, clean laundry! Beautiful antiques throughout. And the 2 does and 2 fawns that frequented were special. Really nice touch to have a fenced in part of yard for our dog! The mini Druid circle peeked our curiosity! We hope to visit again when visiting family in the area.

Perfect.
My husband and I along with our pups stayed at this absolutely beautiful property. Mary was welcoming and knowledgeable. Basics were available, the check in process could not have been easier. Stores were only a few minutes down the road. Nearby restaurants were good, clean and friendly. The nature walks and hikes were lovely and peaceful. This was our first time using this platform and at the property. We absolutely recommend this location and plan to come back. Just book, you’ll be so happy that you did!

Amazing rental!
This is an amazing rental opportunity unlike no other! The renovated church is so cozy and provides a peaceful, serene environment to unwind. Miss Mary met us upon arrival to check us in, to make sure we had everything we needed, and to meet Dink (our traveling wiener dog companion). In addition to a tasteful renovation, Mary's decorating style complements the church so very nicely. We need to return just to have more time to read some of the interesting books throughout! We enjoyed exploring the surrounding area, as well as the rental property, which includes a very cool stone circle "out back". Also, the outside fenced-in area for four legged friends was perfect! Looking forward to a return visit!

Wonderful Space
This place is beautiful and the open space is wonderful. We brought our 2 dogs and they loved having a fenced in back yard to be able to go outside off leash. Mary was a delight and met us when we arrived. She made sure to walk us through the property and made sure we had everything that we needed before leaving. She also called to check in on us as there was heavy rain storm the first night. She even made our dogs a little welcome bag with treats! We were so happy to be able to stay in all weekend, cook, and watch movies. Overall we will be coming back to stay for another getaway as we enjoyed this one so much!

Beautiful peaceful weekend
This old church was such a nice place to stay. And the property it’s on was lovely to explore with our dog. We also appreciated the fenced area for her. If traveling back to the area we would definitely like to stay again. There were several things we didn’t have time to do.

Another great visit!
This was my second visit to this property with my dog. We had a nice time exploring the area again and visiting with my brother who lives nearby. I really enjoy the serenity of the location and the fact that this place has all of the necessities on hand. A bonus for anyone with sensitivity to chemical scents: it is practically fragrance-free! We will return in the future. Many thanks to the owners!!!

I'm an artist and designer. My brother, who is co-owner has a history in preservation. We both have a life long love of antiques and the stories they tell.

Why they chose this property

This church was on our great grandfather's property. It was built in the early 1890s and was an Episcopal Church until sometime in the early part of the 20th century. It stood empty for many year and in the 1960s our Mother opened an antique shop in the building. When my brother and I inherited the property we wished to preserve the structure and the history and have done extensive renovations trying to be true to the feeling of peace this structure possesses. Now there is s new addition with a bathroom and a fully functional kitchen. We wish to share this special space.

What makes this property unique

The property is located on 80+ acres of mostly woodland. There is a pretty stream running through the woods. Wildlife abounds. When we were excavating for the septic system we uncovered some huge stones and built a stone circle near the church. A perfect place for meditation. It honors the memories of our Celtic forbears. The church is at the edge of the village of Lawsonham which was named after our ancestor who came her in the early 1800s. The Redbank Creek runs through it. It is not a very busy place now, although it once was, with hotels, a newspaper and a couple of stores. The counter in the kitchen area of our renovation came from one of the original stores in the village. At the bottom of the hill there is access to a Rail to Trails which is being developed. My brother lives nearby and is available for questions, solving possible problems and to make suggestions!
