About this property
Teddy Roosevelt Presidential Car: Caboose Inn @ Doolittle Station
Summary:
Voted one of the 13 most romantic overnight stays in the region, the Teddy car is also perfect for families. In 1903, this rail car was used by Teddy Roosevelt for a Northern tour. It was decommissioned in 1963 and sold to the famous railroad artist Russ Porter to be used as an art studio. This car remains as one of the few original Pullman Palace Rail Cars complete with original furnishings. While on campus, check out the Angry Goat Gastropub, the Brewery, the dinosaur museum or minigolf.
The Space:
Upon entering, you will be standing in the annex building complete with a full modern bathroom (sink, walk-in shower and toilet) that is also handicap accessible and a sitting area with a Keurig and a fridge/freezer. There are two small steps that will then take you into the historic Pullman car dining room that contains a large table for gatherings. Down a narrow hallway, you will find four bedrooms including the Presidential room complete with a queen bed and wall air conditioning unit.
Guest Access:
You will enter into the annex building with a door code provided to you in an email.
The Neighborhood:
The presidential car is located in Doolittle's Station in DuBois, PA just 1 mile off route 80. On campus you will find several restaurants and activities. The Angry Goat Gastropub not only has great food, drinks and cocktails, but is also a place for nightly entertainment. There are 6 axe throwing lanes that all have virtual games like tic-tac-toe and connect four. Additionally, there are two golf simulators, an indoor and outdoor bar, live music on most weekends and an indoor and outdoor event center that hosts periodic bands, comedy shows, weddings and other exciting events. Aegis coffee is the towns premier coffee shop and their flagship location is located on campus! The Roadside Creamery has burgers, hotdogs and finger foods as well as Perry's ice cream. The BoxCar Brew Works Brewery brews various beers on site and has an outdoor deck overlooking the mini golf course. They serve food as well as offer pizza from nearby Railcar Pizza. Be sure to check out the Dinosaur Museum complete with over 30 animatronic dinosaurs located both within the museum and outside in the nearby grounds. There is also an 18 hole minigolf course with a dinosaur theme as well as a goat pen with 3 awesome goats! Also be sure to check out the model train car on campus as well as The Caring Caboose (available upon request) which offers a private gathering people with special needs.
Getting Around:
Doolittle's Station is located in DuBois PA and is part of the PA Wilds. Within a short drive, you will find Treasure Lake that has 2 PGA rated golf courses, beach volleyball courts, tennis courts and 2 man-made lakes with water activities. Also within a short drive are plenty of tourist attractions such as Parker Dam, Bilger's Rocks, Cook Forest State Park, Kinzua Bridge, the Allegheny National Forest, The Elk Country Visitor Center in Benezette and the Railroaders Memorial Museum in Altoona. Additionally, quaint towns like Punxsutawney ("The weather capitol of the world") and Brookville are a short drive away while State College (home of the Penn State Nittany Lions) and Pittsburgh are 1 and 2 hour drives, respectively.
