About this property
One minute to lake, fabulous views, well-equipped kitchen, & comfy beds!
Amazing views just 50 steps from the lake! Enjoy this sweet cottage in the best part of San Pedro La Laguna.
Well-equipped kitchen, artsy bathroom with rustic tub, bedroom with pillow top double bed, rustic tile floors, Mayan photos on the walls. This cottage is sweet!
Covered patio in a large yard w/privacy fence, a fun place for meals, games, or just relaxing.
Upstairs: Enclosed sunroom with huge windows, futon sofa, gorgeous lake & mountain views.
Guests say we've thought of everything! Read on for all the details.
Everything about this cottage says "someone cares". It sits on a big double lot, nicely landscaped with grass, hedges, and flowers. And the cottage itself? It's, well, sweet! And almost all new.
THE SUN ROOM: The home was one-story until we built a covered sunroom with an almost 360-degree view of the lake and volcanoes. There's a futon/pull-down couch (with pillow top and linens for sleeping), plus chairs and a small table. Have fun eating, reading, or visiting with friends up there!
THE LIVING AREAS: The living room is spacious and comfortable, with a desk if you want to work and Bose speakers to connect to your device. High-speed wi-fi completes it all.
THE BEDROOM: The new double bed with a pillow top is in a separate room at the end of the living room. It's wonderfully sunny with windows all around and curtains for evening privacy and great sleeping. The steps up to the sunroom are here too, so you don't need to go outside.
THE KITCHEN: If you like to cook with quality items, you'll love the kitchen. It's a small enough space that you just need to turn around to get what you need. It also has ample counter space, a new oven, and a good-sized fridge. We even installed a silent water pump outside to get great water pressure in the kitchen (a rarity in San Pedro).
PEACE & QUIET: We're in one of the quietest sections of San Pedro -- you rarely hear a vehicle, and only occasional music. There are street dogs in San Pedro that sometimes disrupt the peace ... but not for long.
SAFETY: San Pedro La Laguna is rated as very safe. Tourists can walk freely without fear, even at night (although we're old school and suggest women shouldn't walk alone at night). This might be due to the extensive security system the village has -- or it could be the awesome residents who don't put up with crime. We have lighted security cameras on the path outside the cottage to be sure kids don't spray graffiti on the cottage.
THE BACK STORY: This cottage is a labor of love between the owner, a Mayan with a wife and two young children, and a semi-retired creative writer.
We both loved the house, so we struck a deal: I would rent it and, with his help, would renovate the house to create a B&B which he could then manage, sharing any profit.
All this to say that you'll feel at home because we worked together to make a space that feels good ... a cottage we hope you'll fall in love with!
THINK GLOBALLY, ACT LOCALLY: The Mayans at Lake Atitlan don't have a lot of opportunity -- this is our attempt to help create some. Please join us by renting our sweet cottage!
Here's a review from our first guests in 12/23 (they used another channel for booking):
"We spent 5 nights here and the stay was absolutely perfect! The location is very quiet and the lake can be reached in 2 minutes on foot.
On our arrival, we were picked up by Armando at the front on the street and guided to the house. Armando and Mary Helen are very helpful and always available for questions. In addition, Armando is also a local guide and likes to accompany you on tours in the region (we did the Sunrise-Hike with him).
The cottage is very nice, lovingly and stylishly furnished and offers a lot of comfort. The kitchen facilities are excellent and upon arrival there were already fruits, orange juice, bread and a few more food items ready for us. Also some spices and some ingredients for cooking and baking are available.
There is a large garden all around the house for sole use, which offers a lot of privacy.
We would absolutely recommend the accommodation and would book it again anytime immediately. Thank you Armando and Mary Helen!"

About the host
Hosted by Mary Helen Rossi

I'm a semi-retired creative writer who loves creating warm, welcoming spaces that help guests enjoy their vacations. I partnered with the cottage owner (dueno) to revamp the cottage and add the terrace so you'll have an awesome stay!
Why they chose this property
The cottage is just outside the noisy, busy area of San Pedro but within walking distance of everything. There's a good-size vegetable stand just up the path and one of the best restaurants (Micaso) just down the path ... plus the Cafe Orbe out the Finca Road. If you prefer lots of people just walk into town or up to the mercado.
The beauty of the location is that it's near enough to everything but away from the noise.

What makes this property unique
Our guests describe the cottage as "beautifully styled", "gorgeous", "sweet", "zen-like" and totally comfortable, like home. I redid the cottage for my personal use (it took about 7 months) so it has just about everything you could want.
