The space
This home is a perfect staging place for small family gatherings and relaxing retreats, or a base to tour the many Hudson Valley attractions, or to Vassar or Marist colleges.
Upper Living Room: This is a lovely space to read, talk and relax with two large chesterfields and additional seating. This is a wonderful space for meditation and reading.
Upper Level Balcony: Enjoy morning coffee sitting on the second-floor balcony watching wildlife such as hawks and deer.
Dining Area: Farmhouse table with seating for six, plus adjacent kitchen island counter with seating for four.
Kitchen: Appliances include a large stainless refrigerator, oven, microwave, toaster, tea kettle and dishwasher. Cupboards are fully stocked with pans, kitchen tools, crockery and cutlery.
Master bedroom: King bed, two walk-in closets, luggage racks and full bathroom.
Bedroom 2: Queen bed, built-in closet
Bedroom 3: 1 full bed and 1 twin bed, built in closet, luggage rack
The Garden Living Room (ground floor): A large, spacious, garden room occupies the lower floor. Perfect as a family room with space for exercise or as a children’s play area, sit relaxing with a morning coffee. This garden room opens to the grounds. There is also a utility room, a half bath on this level.
For your comfort, there is a queen sofa bed in the garden living room perfect for TV lounging, and two roll-away beds.
Zoning permits 6 adults plus additional children under 5 years of age. No parties are permitted.
This immaculately kept home has central AC and baseboard heating. We use green cleaning products, organic towels and bamboo sheets.
Please remember that this property is surrounded by open and forested land and there will likely be wildlife and insects. We are also peri-urban so there are properties around 3 sides of the periphery of our 5 acre property.

About the host
Hosted by Elizabeth

I love being a host, making people happy and welcoming them to a home from home. The profits we make from hosting go towards protecting the adjacent 140 acre wild land which is abundant with wildlife, birds, pollinators, but was under threat from development before we miraculously acquired it. It is my dream to raise enough funds to create a healing sanctuary, a beautiful space to invite people to build a deeper relationship with nature.
Why they chose this property
The house is located down a long private driveway leading into a 5 acre, largely wooded lot. It is surrounded by other houses so while being somewhat secluded, the periphery of the property is comfortably enclosed. The house is only 1.5 miles from Main Street Poughkeepsie and just a little further is the Amtrak/Metro North Station, Vassar College, Marist. The Culinary Institute of America and the Roosevelt Presidential library are in the beautiful neighboring town of Hyde Park.
Behind the house is a 140 acre private nature reserve. My favorite place to spend the afternoon is Plan Bee Brewery which is less than 1 mile away, located down a country lane on a restored victorian farm. My favorite local restaurant is Farmers and Chefs which serve sustainably sourced ingredients and have a delicious menu.

What makes this property unique
Our home is made with love. I constantly add little extras to make it even more welcoming. It means a lot to me to be able to open our sanctuary to guests and learn how they've enjoyed the space with their friends and family. The living quarters are largely located on the second floor with a large open plan kitchen, living, dining area with vaulted ceilings. Being one floor up makes the space feel even more special and provides light-filled views of the garden and woodlands. I call the house 'The Greenhouse,' because it has so much light, and is green :) I look forward to welcoming you!
