Delayed writing this review for several weeks in case my post vacation opinion softened or I just got over how poor our stay was. I am normally a very easy going person; however our experience here was exceptionally disappointing and NOT the Tahiti we dreamed about. For the price (most expensive thing this middle class couple has ever booked) we expected a gorgeous house, beautiful views, and a great lanai to just soak in the sounds and sights of paradise. Here's more details on our experience:
House - 5 - the bungalow is exceptionally nice and wonderfully stocked and furnished. The local hosts arrived on time and greeted us warmly. The beach chairs we counted were broken/not avail; however, the rest of the bikes, kayak, SUPs, all worked great.
Lanai - 4 - while gorgeous views and large, the #1 reason we booked this property, the main road around the island is directly below the unit. While certainly not heavy traffic compared to mainland US, it was rarely ever peaceful for more than 30 seconds....as a car (and many motorcycles and scooters) were always nearby.
Location - 4 - While only indirectly related to this property, all walks from the house found garbage everywhere and stray/loose dogs. Additionally, we found this location to be on the totally wrong side of the island. If you want to visit and be a local...this location is great, if you want to be near the beach (Matiri) and good restaurants, we found ourselves constantly driving.
Owner/Service - 2 - lastly, our experience was exceptionally disappointing and honestly, the key factor in our review. During our stay, the road and drainage system was being completely redone right below the lanai, something scheduled/known and working its way around the island. For 4 of our 6 days (except weekend) tractors, bull dozers, scrapers, generators, dump trucks, heavy equipment worked from 7am to 4pm. This made the house and lanai completely useless. After numerous emails, which Ed was responsive to, the best he could offer was ''sorry." When the hosts gave us dust covers for the lanai furniture upon our arrival, and they made sure to instruct us to use them, we should have figured out that dirt/noise was coming. Amazing, while we deserved a huge discount since the house was essentially not usable much of the time, we weren't even offered free drinks at a local bar or anything. Demonstrated care would have gone a long way here.
