About this property

New Listing, Premier Host, Historic Cabin newly remodeled, private, quiet, CLEAN

"Being nestled in a valley surrounded by red cliffs, orchards, pastures and the relaxing sounds of a babbling brook, brings feelings of serenity, peace and gratitude for the opportunity to rest and recharge in a beautiful environment both inside the cabin and out." ~ a recent guest

We understand the importance of using your valuable and rare vacation time in a place that provides you comfort and peace. We pride ourselves in providing that for you. We have been offering another vacation rental on our property, called A Place at James Ranch (vrbo listing number 335610) for the last 10 years, during which time we have providing people with an outstanding stay (we have over 225 five star reviews). This cabin will be no different ~ we look forward to hosting you.

Stay in one of the original dwellings built in the late 1800s in the gorgeous Animas Valley while enjoying all the conveniences of modern living. This quaint cabin is surround by mature trees, a year round babbling brook (including stairs to the small waterfall if you want to recharge with a cold plung ), has views of the Hermosa red cliffs, and borders the James Ranch Tree Farm.

The location is perfect: centrally located between the incredibly fun town of Durango (20 min drive) and the insanely beautiful San Juan mountains to the north - which includes everything Purgatory Resort offers both in winter and summer).

You will experience the perfect vacation day soaking up the morning sun while sipping your tea or coffee on the porch, reading your book by the stream in the shade of an old apricot tree, or playing cards while enjoying the outdoor patio in the warm afternoon sun ~ all the while listening to the diverse varieties of birds that live in the surrounding trees.

Inside the cabin, you will sleep in one of the most comfortable beds you have ever experienced while traveling, look out the windows at the iconic Hermosa red cliffs, all the while listening to the calming sounds of the nearby stream. When standing at the kitchen sink, you will experience views of the Animas Valley.

We are very purposeful about providing organic fibers for all our linens and towels. You will feel extremely pampered with the luxurious organic cotton sheets and a feather comforter. We only use non-toxic cleaning agents/detergents/dishwashing soaps.
The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you will need to prepare homecooked meals, or simply boil some water to enjoy coffee or tea to enjoy while sitting on the porch in the morning sun.

Relaxing Cabin
We were looking for a relaxing place to stay and found it in this cute little cabin. Each day we awoke (and fell asleep) to the rushing brook right outside the cabin door. It was like listening to the rain. The cabin was well stocked, incredibly comfortable, and private. We enjoyed sitting on the covered porch with a cup of coffee and watching the birds and chipmunks. We will keep this place in mind for future stays in Durango.

Charming and Cozy Getaway!
Recently I stayed at this cabin on James Ranch and it turned out to be a very unique and tranquil experience. It is a step back in time in a bucolic, old orchard but conveniently a very short distance from James Market and Grill and a few miles from downtown Durango. From the outside the cabin looks like 150 years ago but it is outfitted inside with a full kitchen, comfy bed, washer and dryer and one of my fave things: an electric tea kettle! I loved the tasteful personal touches of beautiful china, lighting and artwork. Relaxing on the front porch, I enjoyed the sounds of the birds, creek and train tooting by. I am very happy to have found this cozy getaway and hope to stay here again. It was a dream come true and a memory I will treasure!
