Captain Handy's House

Enjoy the spectacular beauty of the Schoodic Peninsula in this 1850's colonial house that overlooks Prospect Harbor.

In the morning as you sip your coffee, watch the sun rise while the lobster boats pull in and out of the working harbor. In the evening, stroll down to the dock and watch the fog roll in.
The downstairs features a bedroom (queen bed) with a desk for remote work, a 3/4 bath, a kitchen, pantry, living room, and dining room. The second floor features a primary bedroom (king bed), a 3/4 bath, a room with a queen bed and a small room with a full bed. The house features a spacious front yard, as well as a private backyard with a firepit among the granite rocks and an acre of forest.

This 1850's Colonial Home is included among the oldest homes on the Schoodic Peninsula and the very first home in Prospect Harbor. The house is filled with historic character; the original owner was Captain William Handy.

The house is located within a 10-minute drive of an off-the-beaten path section of Acadia National Park with a stunning seven-mile, one way loop road perfect for biking, hiking or taking in the beauty of coastal Maine by car. This section of the park is a gem, away from crowds that you'll find in the main section of Acadia National Park. However, just a 10-minute drive from the house, there is a ferry (passenger only) that offers you easy access to Bar Harbor (the drive to Bar Harbor from the house takes about an hour).

Other spots to visit within a 10-minute drive are Jones Pond (perfect for swimming or kayaking), The Pickled Wrinkle (delicious food and friendly people), Me & Ben's Ice Cream (try the blueberry soft serve, they make it fresh daily!), and the charming village of Winter Harbor with shops, cafes and a Five-and-Ten general store.
