Couples Retreat

The master bedroom was spectacular. The second bedroom was small with a short bed. We loved the view and setting. Great for shade lovers. Very unique art throughout the home.

Beautiful lake views but comfort short

My family and I enjoyed the lake and Jessica was amazing. However, the fact that there was only one very small tv in the whole place was rough. The furniture wasnt very comfy, the internet was spotty at best and there was no door dash or delivery options. Overall the customer service was excellent, and the view was amazing, but I wouldnt revisit.

Not perfect but still great.

This is Kelly Burke. I want to thank you the hospitality this past week. My family had a wonderful time. Two things: Your manual inferred we should not put trash in containers outside because pick up wasn't until Tuesday. But as we departed today, we did put the trash in the containers because we didn't want to leave you with a hoard of fruit flies. They were very bad through the week. Secondly, Thursday evening, while my daughter in law was showering in the upstairs bath, my wife and I saw that water was leaking from that shower to the bedroom we were in downstairs along the ceiling and outside of the closet wall. We made sure no one else showered upstairs afterward. We did nothing unusual to precipitate that. We would recommend installing lighting along the walkway and steps to the beach. Even though you have a railing, it is still dangerous. My wife fell and I tripped. Fortunately, neither one of us was injured significantly, but it was a close call. Finally, we found the place was was dusty when we arrived and we had to do a fair amount of cleaning before we settled in. Otherwise, your place was very enjoyable - especially the beach area. Outstanding waterside location. Good internet service. Appliances all worked well. Good location to get to a number of great places. Despite the issues I raised, I would recommend this getaway. All issues can easily be addressed. Thank you very much.

Lovely spot on the lake

Bishop's Beach is a lovely log home on a wooded lot right on the lake. Three doors along the back of the house open with screen doors so you can keep them open and hear the waves. Omena is conveniently located on Leelanau peninsula between Northport and Sutton's Bay making it easy to get anywhere - Leland, Glen Arbor, Sleeping Bear Dunes, etc. Communication with Jessica was easy.

Had a great stay and were quite comfortable.

Lovely, quiet area and great beach front! Gorgeous view! Kitchen was well equipped and lots of outdoor seating. Drawback was the horrible springs on the downstairs bed. Owner said it will be replaced. Also, the tree lined curves in the driveway made it very difficult to back the boat in. We would definitely stay there again but not bring our boat.

Maintenance- dehumidifier- updates

The property location is very good- the front steps need a railing - to open the screen door you must step to the very edge of the stone steps. We spent the first hours replacing light bulbs - smoke detectors batteries - trying to tighten the master bathroom faucet- the furnishings need to be up dated / cleaned - the fabric is worn out - the newer front porch needs a railing - the stone path to the beach is at best a challenge- & when wet slippery- the owner should give strong consideration to fixing the rugged stone path - the beach & view is a 10 out of 10 - with some very needed new furniture - pots & pans & cleaning the entire cottage could also be 10 out of 10 -

Beautiful location. Great view.

Beautiful location. Great view. Easy drive to everything. Very private and secluded feel. The owners are really good at communicating and helping out. They left an abundance of paper products and towels for us to use. The beach is a REAL beach with soft sand - right in the backyard. The beach is very clean. Mattresses have seen their better day.

Lovely, rustic and charming

We loved so many things about this beautiful home. The natural landscape, rustic cabin with all the amenities and very responsive property owners. They went to great effort to assist us the one time we asked. All the beds were comfortable and it was well stocked with items many other property renters tend to skimp on (I.e. toilet paper). I would highly recommend this property.

Eclectic Gem

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The property was as described, with much personality, amazing views and a comfortable private beach. The property manager informed me prior to arrival about a pending repair so we were aware when we arrived. The location met our needs perfectly. The main concern from other reviewers I agree with is the downstairs bedroom mattress desperately needs replaced. Others also identified navigating the stairs to the beach and fire pit after dark will require a light so we came prepared.

Family Vacation at Beautiful Bishop Beach

Our family of 5 loved our August vacation at Jessica’s stunning home on beautiful Bishop Beach. Jessica was fantastic to communicate with and very helpful. Her home was sparkling clean with spectacular views of Lake Michigan from the cathedral ceiling, open concept great room and kitchen, as well as the vaulted master bedroom. We also appreciated the tasteful and comfortable decor, with an abundance of books throughout the home to curl up with. The beach area was quiet and private, and perfect for our almost 2-year old granddaughter who loved playing in the sand, and everyone enjoyed swimming in the crystal clear, aqua blue water of Lake Michigan (which was shallow for quite a distance from the beach). We also loved being on scenic, uncrowded Leelanau Peninsula with its many wineries, farmers markets, and hiking at Leelanau State Park. Nearby Suttons Bay was a delight with great restaurants and charming shops to explore We hope to return to Jessica’s Bishop Beach home next summer!

Beautiful secluded lake home!

We had a wonderful week at this quirky and fun lake house! The view from the master bedroom is beautiful! The shower/tub in the master bath would be challenging for some people as it is difficult to get in and out of and the water pressure isn’t great. My family loved the outdoor shower though! Jessica was very quick to respond to any questions we had.

MAY BE NOT WHAT IT SEEMS

Let me begin by saying that the view from the deck and beach for this property is spectacular and our party totally enjoyed that part of our stay. Unfortunately, let me describe the issues encountered with this property. The master bathroom proved to be unusable. We were informed on the day of arrival not to use the jetted tub because of leaks but could use the shower rigged to the tub. Unfortunately, the shower that is hooked up to the tub has practically no water pressure. Also, the access to the tub and shower is dangerous and difficult. The toilet in that bathroom leaves about as much room to use as an airline seat. So our party of 5 were left using 1 bathroom. Next, was the access to the beach. Because the sprinklers are on twice a day, morning and early evening, the rocky path leading to the beach is treacherous. That part of the path from the deck to the beach is extremely slippery and because that area is shaded all day it remains that way for most of the day. We made management aware of this problem and we were assured it would be taken care of. That evening we tried to use the beach for a marshmallow roast we were doused by the sprinklers. We were finally told how to shut off this system, which we did, and it took care of the problem and were later accused of incurring a service fee when no one else took care of the issue but us. Next, the first time we tried to use the gas grill it would not heat up enough to cook our dinner. Management came the next day and replaced the tank and then it worked fine. We were accused of incurring an added expense as it was claimed that the tank was half full. Why did it not work then and worked fine later! Additional issues were not mentioned to try and keep our frustration level low. This property accommodates 6 people in this listing so why were there only 4 chairs for dining. One person had to stand while eating. There was a spare chair in another room we brought in but among other things it was broken. Nearly every plate in the cabinet had a chip in it. I would also reiterate as is mentioned in previous reviews that the beds are extremely uncomfortable. One can hardly breathe without the downstairs bed creaking and both beds are like the rocks in the yard. The deck with the fabulous view is in disrepair and there were a few places where the boards were rotting. We were offered a discount but would conditions be different! When asked no monetary refund offered.Rent at your own risk!

Omena Paradise

We had a great time, house was everything we expected. The sunrises were amazing and really enjoyed the fire pit by the water. The only negative thing I could say is the walkway down to the water was all rocks and scary to navigate especially at night and with 2 of us being 70 years old.

Northern Michigan GEM

This property is amazing! It had everything we were looking for in a vacation home! It’s close to Traverse City (30 min) and close to all the wineries! The owners were very accommodating and very nice! The property is secluded, and we had the luxury of having private access to our very own beach! You will not be disappointed! Hello, My name is Christopher Bishop, and I am an Epsicopal priest currently living in New York. My home in Michigan has brought me many summers of joy, and I hope your family will enjoy it just as much as I do!

Why they chose this property

This is a custom-built property, built right next to my parent's vacation home (also listed on HomeAway). It features a very open construction with lots of windows and natural light, and has, at least in my opinion, the most beautiful beach-front view in the world! The village of Omena has all the amenities (gas, grocery, etc.) as well as great restaurants Within a 20 minute drive are lighthouses, antique shops, wineries, casinos, cherry picking, and yearly film and music festivals (and much more)!

What makes this property unique

wooded, beach-front location, private beach, fire pit.
