About this property

The Flying Whale 🐳 top star rating on alternate popular platform 342 reviews

You will have full reign of the top (street)level of the home. Host lives downstairs in the sun basement. You are the only ones who will enter through the front door, and you’ll have a reserved parking space in the double driveway. Your private space includes a double queen and king bedroom, a full bathroom with bath and shower, a fully equipped kitchen, dining/living room with fireplace and views, a laundry room, a wrap around deck. All of which are in the photos.
The space
This house is all about the breathtaking views. It is peaceful sanctuary with vaulted ceilings, and a wrap around deck above the trees. It is walking distance to shops, restaurants, a movie theater, trails, and the #15 bus to downtown.
Guest access
You will occupy the entire street (upper) level of the home and have access to the lower level patio and garden. My family and I live in the sun basement. We have separate entrances. If you need anything or if you have any questions we are there to assist, but most of the time we don’t run into guests unless we both happen to be outside at the same time.
Other things to note
We are a no shoe home. We provide clean slippers for you in the mudroom/foyer. After your stay, we ask that you throw the used slippers in the laundry room.
We have a friendly 6 year old mutt named Martin. The love of our lives! You probably won’t meet him, but just in case we are both outside of the house at the same time, you might. He is great with people.

Spectacular View
My husband and I spent the last 2 nights of our trip to Oregon at the Flying Whale. Jill is a great host and thought of everything we could need. There were beautiful fresh flowers in every room. The kitchen was stocked with fresh coffee beans and a nice assortment of tea. There was a container of half n’ half waiting in the fridge. The beds were super comfortable. We didn't do any laundry but the laundry room was stocked with several eco-friendly detergents. There was a nice lavender moisturizer cream in the bathroom, along with hand soap, shampoo and conditioner. Every morning I walked out to the open living/dining area to view the best sunrise. Parking is a breeze as Jill allows you to park in the driveway right next to the front door. She was also very accommodating when I had to change our vacation plans at the last minute due a death in the family. Our stay at the Flying Whale was a great way to wrap up our Oregon vacation.

Perfect in Every Way
The Flying Whale is an outstanding place to stay in Portland. Everything from the cleanliness, to the view, to the comfy beds made it a wonderful visit. Jill, the host, was friendly, helpful and included many special touches such as a snack basket, fresh flowers and everything needed for your morning coffee. We will definitely stay here again.

Charming with a view
This place was so open and inviting. We felt at home the minute we walked in. Everything was decorated perfectly and there were so many small touches that made the experience so nice- books/games, snacks and an espresso machine, just to name a few! The view was amazing as well. It felt like a little oasis!

The search is over, Book this
If you have other properties in your trip folder, I'm here to tell you the search is over, book this location. We were on a road trip from AZ. This was a stop in the middle of the trip for us. The owners were so accommodating and kind, letting us drop our bags off early while they cleaned the house on day one. The house is so amazing. Very comfortable and cozy, amazing views, and close (walking distance) to Mt. Tabor recreational area which is amazing, cafés like Coquine which is walking distance in the neighborhood and had my teen and child begging to go back, and a cute mini downtown area with restaurants, movie's and more. It is close to downtown, less than 3 hours from Seattle, and close to Multnomah Falls. My kids did not want to leave they were ready to move in. They also gave great detail to provide premium coffee, teas, and snacks. As well as top of the line toiletries adding to the comfort of the home. The owners live on the first floor, and are kind and attentive, we found it to be private enough for us, and convenient to have them close by as they delivered a few essentials to us during the visit. Don't hesitate, this property is worth everything it lists to be. Book this listing and have a great vacation! Thank you Jill!!
