About this property

Year Round Rental Overlooking Damariscotta River

Splendid westerly views and gorgeous sunsets to be enjoyed by family and friends from this tasteful Cape's spacious deck, living and dining rooms, sunroom, and kitchen. Enjoy the wonderful ambiance of this easy-living floor plan with a first-floor bedroom, bath, laundry area, living room with fireplace and built-ins, a large dining area with a wide window seat, and a dining table with room for 10 people. Upstairs are two more bedrooms ( three twins and one queen) and a bathroom with a shower (no tub). The property has incredible perennial gardens with a path that leads down to the waterfront. At the waterfront is an Island owned by the Damariscotta River Association, which can be walked during low tide. The island is a great place to swim during high tide. We have three kayaks that are free to use during your stay, but please be aware that there is a steep path down to the river, we don't have a dock, and there is usually only a four-hour tidal window during which you can kayak. You must sign the waiver forms displayed in the garage to use these kayaks. The property is ideally positioned to explore the coast of Maine via the river, visit Pemaquid lighthouse just a few miles down the road, spend time in the picturesque town of Damariscotta (1.6 miles), or explore further afield by visiting Boothbay Harbor (25-minute drive), Bath (20-minute drive) or Camden (40-minute drive). Damariscotta was recently voted the #1 spot to visit in Country Living's article "40 American Towns You Haven't Heard of but Should Visit ASAP". This property is set back from a busy road 129/130, and when the windows are open, you can hear the traffic - you don't notice it after some time - so complete silence is not something you will get at this property. All of our appliances are new. This house has a split AC in the living room that cools the downstairs and a portable AC in the TV room. We have an AC in every room. This house is well equipped to handle the heat when it gets hot. This property is back on the market with a new deck, a change of sidings, and renovations to the inside of the house. We no longer have anyone living in the independent basement flat. This flat remains empty while we rent our property to guest.

Fantastic Home!
So glad we came across this home for rent! The location was fantastic and just where we needed and the view from the back deck was breathtaking! The home is very spacious and comfortable! The only constructive criticism I would have is maybe with some of the supplies, there weren't any face cloths and toilet paper was limited, so we went and bought some. Otherwise, totally decked out to accommodate everyone in your family! Thank you very much and we will totally rent here again!!!

Nice, quiet home set back from the river
We stayed at this property for a wedding because of the great reviews and the distance to everything. We really enjoyed this house and all it had to offer. We really felt at home and the quietness and cool Maine mornings were perfect to wake up to. The only slightly negative thing I would say would be the beds/mattresses are a little dated. So, if you're used to something different, it may take some adjusting. No big deal, just thought I would add. Overall, we really enjoyed this property and I would rent again. Thanks!

Absolutely delightful
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay for a week this summer. The house is close to everything! The kitchen was well appointed, the beds were comfortable and the renovated bathrooms were wonderful. We loved the deck and watching movies in the TV room. All the appliances worked well and we were grateful for the printer and filtered hot/cold water which not all houses come with. Though we didn't take out the kayaks, we did wander down to the lakeside at low tide and were amazed to find so many live wild oysters! It's a beautiful spot. Lastly, the house is really beautifully decorated. We enjoyed looking at the art and the color combinations. It was a truly lovely home base for our adventures in this part of Maine. Thanks for having us!!

Peak Fall Foliage and Damariscotta Pumpkin Festival
Property was very convenient to downtown and nearby towns as well as only 1hr away from Portland. Property was beautiful, great views, kitchen well stocked, older appliances but all worked well. 5star property other than our only 1 complaint and it's kind of a big one...The beds are awful, hard as a rock, thin 4-6" mattresses, everyone in our group woke up sore, bodies aching, bruised feeling and slept horribly. I have seen that other guests reviews have complained about this issue before to owner and I truly believe it is not an expensive issue to correct but a very very important one. Everything else was wonderful, I would not hesitate to recommend if the mattress get replaced.

Lovely house
Really lovely home, immaculately clean and spacious for a large family. Plenty of sleeping options, beautiful huge deck. Owner is super responsive if anything comes up. Upgraded appliances and finishes throughout. On the road but surprisingly quiet. Water access a bit of a hike. Highly recommended.

Nice
House is very nice and spacious. Great location. Some housekeeping was missed and short on household supplies. Main floor shower slow drained so you stood in water. Didn’t realize someone lived in basement separate entrance when rented. Would not stay here if knew. Was informed his bedroom was below main room and when he went to bed. Not ideal for vacation home rental.

Nice place to stay with concerns
Everything was good, Towels and linens needed to be upgraded to hotel quality, One of the twin beds was not a true twin bed in the King size bed room. The Culligan water station was a nice ammenty. The back porch view of the river is awesome. Having a person living in the basement was uncomfortable.

Very good stay
House is very spacious, fully equipped with all essentials, quiet neighborhood and close to restaurants, shops and Hannaford’s grocery store. We were a family of 6 adults (3 couples). The deck and furniture are brand new and we hung out there for breakfasts and at sunset. Host Nishad was very responsive and helpful throughout our stay of five days! Thank you Nishad and Alex the property manager too!

Nice family getaway
We really enjoyed our stay. Some of our pros and cons would be: Pros: owner provided lots of information and ensured we had everything needed to enjoy our week. - house was very spacious and furnished. - centrally locates to beaches, restaurants, And family activities. - house was stocked with everything we needed. - LOVED The foosball table Cons: the only issues we found were the lack of dock for access to river. We were only able to kayak and canoe once with the family because of difficulty in access to river. - We (having three kids) would have liked a lock on the master bedroom door for additional privacy. Thank you Nishad for sharing your home with us during our getaway.

The Perfect Place for Our Family
When I discovered this rental property on Vrbo, I booked it right away after reading all the reviews and looking through the photos. It seemed like the perfect fit for our family of five adults - three sons 18, 21, & 23; it did not disappoint. The house is perfectly situated to all the places we know and love in the Damariscotta area - downtown Damariscotta, Wiscasset, Pemaquid Beach, the Rachel Carson Salt Pond Preserve, Round Top Ice Cream, and Muscongus Bay Lobster. We played games and ate on the deck as often as we could; the retractable awning is brilliant! We watched movies in the tv room and lounged in the living room and work area. The kitchen is small, but was more than adequate for the meals we made; appetizers/game night, grilled burgers & chicken using the charcoal grill, blueberry pancake breakfast, and spicy Asian noodles. We all slept incredibly well, as the mattresses were fairly new and firm. The downstairs bedroom has no AC, but I thought the window fan worked as it should; if we had been too hot, we would have chosen the upstairs bedroom as both upstairs bedrooms are equipped with AC. Nishad was so great to work with, from beginning to end. He promptly answered all my questions and concerns; having us read the guestbook before arrival was genius on his part. It was full of everything we needed to know: how not to miss the correct driveway, how to work the blinds, AC, and retractable awning, how important it is to know the difference between canoeing on a lake and a river, and things to see and do in the area. Nishad checked in with us a few times during our stay, really desiring satisfied guests. I’m afraid by leaving this glowing review, it will limit the availability of this property for our next trip. But here it is: we loved it!

Beautiful area
A good house for a family to spend time together, open and lots of light. Owner very responsive to texts and questions. Nice deck to enjoy outside. We spent more time away during the weekend for a family wedding , but the Downtown is close by with nice shops and little restaurants. Could not pack in all we wanted to do, i.e. the kayaks at the house and the lighthouse not too far away. Next trip to Maine will be longer!

Beautiful home for my family in late August
This is a beautiful home with owners who definitely take great care and pride in their guests' experience. Damariscotta is a terrific little town, and I believe well situated in mid-coast Maine. Our crew of mostly kids ages 5-14 had a wonderful week. Here is how I'd summarize our experience with the house/property and owners: Pros: -we were given very thorough check-in instructions and there is an onsite property manager if you need anything -we could see the Damariscotta River from the deck and dining room which made for pretty sunrises/sunsets -well stocked kitchen and amenities--added fun was the bird seed to get to refill the feeders which my 5 yr old really loved -the kayaks and canoe (and related equipment) were a real bonus --we went out everyday and saw seals everyday; you can even tie on the dock in town and grab ice cream -the tvs and gaming system were appreciated by the kids -there was plenty of space for there to be reading, eating, playing, etc all in different areas -the very thorough guest book helped us to plan our activities each day to swim, kayak, shop, and even what restaurant we wanted to go to and that we wisely needed reservations! Cons: -after first night, no one slept in the upstairs bedrooms as it was just too hot even with windows open and fans on, plus all the mattresses in the house could use some updating -the water system is limited so you can't run the dishwasher or the washing machine more than 1x a day and the showers can't run at the same time--at one point we had 3 adults and 5 kids so that made life a bit more difficult -the hike to the kayaks and back is not too long (5 min), but a fairly steep hill coming back--plus there was construction the entire week on the private road you must walk back up so we were dodging construction vehicles -the main road the house is on is so busy you can't walk or bike -it is VERY buggy in the yard and on the deck, so unfortunately it was hard to enjoy -the Internet (for TV too) shuts off at 12am

Great house in beautiful setting
This is a great house for a trip to Maine. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It's in a great setting, just up the hill from the river and access was easy and we had a great time kayaking (even saw some seals). Its location also was great for visiting other parts of the region, including several lighthouses. Our only major complaint would be that the house got very hot inside during our stay due to the heatwave in Maine at the time. Most homes in the area don't have central AC, so I expect most everyone was also feeling the heat. Just something for those considering a trip to the area to keep in mind when timing their visit.

Great Family House
The open layout and big deck made this a great house for traveling with children. We had two preschoolers and a baby with us. The layout gave them plenty of room. but allowed us to keep the baby contained. He love crawling all over the first floor.

Place is excellent...
Perfect place for a short vacation. Everything is accessible. Night time is a little hurdle since it’s it’s so warm during the day. The bedrooms on the second floor is so warm although it was stated on the website that no a/c. Exploring the shore area is not very convenient since the pathway is muddy and better spray insect repellent before going. In totality the house is outstanding everything is organized. Owner is a great help in whatever you need in any given time.
