About this property

Casita de Luna - Beach 200 yards away, Stunning Views, Peace, Quiet and Nature

Stunning open views (no exaggeration) of the spectacular peaks of the 7000' Sierra Laguna Mountains and the wide open Pacific. Close enough to hear waves, as well as whales flapping tails. You don't even have to go down to the beach to enjoy it - the porch and roof-top terraza bring it to you. A private beach bungalow located in an undeveloped area just north of Todos, just 10 minutes from all the action downtown.

Located on over an acre and adjacent to 90 undeveloped acres of cactus forest, it's set back from main roads for security, privacy and NO road dust or traffic noise. We now have one neighbor close on our north side, but it's still an exceptionally peaceful location, a natural setting with open landscape. It is a spacious, airy studio with wide windows facing incredible views in every direction, plus french doors that open to the ocean view. It's our home, not a separate guest house, so it has most items you need to live!

Furnished with:
*WiFi (password on front of info book on wall)
*King bed (or 2 singles pushed together) - comfy
* Sofa/futon bed (double) - great for kids
* Kitchen table & chairs
* Stove
* Fridge
* Microwave
* Kitchen cold water / right faucet is filtered and potable / drinkable.
* Full complement of cooking/eating utensils - cook to your hearts content if you want
* Many items and condiments you'll need (coffee, tea, spices, sugar, rice, beans, vinegar, oil, etc.) to cook up fresh fish bought from the boats at fishermen's beach.

* Wine glasses for sunset on the porch.
* Beer steins
* French press and Mr. Coffee maker with coffee grinder, to make it fresh!
* Bidet in bathroom, and walk-in shower with full pressure.
* Linens and towels, including beach towels and beach mats.
* Beach umbrella, beach mats, canvas chairs, cooler, mask, snorkels, fins and boogie board available for beach trips are stored under patio.
* Rocking Chairs and recliners available for lounging on the porch or terraza/roof top.
* Hammock under palms. Daybed swing with view of ocean.
*Yoga mats and 2 pound free weights for your workout.
* Books for your reading pleasure.
* Daily afternoon breeze through ocean-side French doors to cool you, or ceiling fans.
* Table and comfortable chairs on corner of porch for al fresco dining.
* TV with DVD player and an assortment of DVDs (no TV reception).
* Radio/CD/Ipod player but you need to bring an AUX cord.
* French doors and screen doors are heavy metal with secure locks, to leave open all night, if desired.
* Stairs to rooftop with corner bar with stools provide a view of entire coast line of the Pacific and Sierra Laguna mountains, or just sit on the corner of the front porch and soak it all in. Great spots for sunset and star gazing after a day on the beach.
* Full water pressure with plenty of hot water in walk-in shower, that also waters the desert garden.
* Gas BBQ - ask me ahead of time to arrange it.
Sleep to the soothing sound of crashing surf and wake to cooing doves. You´ll love strolling along the empty, white sandy beach, watching the whales breaching right off shore. If you prefer birding, from your porch watch osprey perched in the old-growth cactus, resident baby quail or road-runners skittering around and cardinals and Orioles

Our favorite Todos Santos couples getaway
My wife and I have been to Todos Santos and stayed at 5 one bedroom B&Bs. This is our favorite, we will actually schedule our next trip based on the availability of this nice little home. We loved the easy walk to the beach, the thunder of the surf and the Las Tunas location. Even if you don't stay here you should try and get her "book" of everything to see and do in the area.

Cathy is an exceptional host
Excellent, proactive communications before and during stay. The casita is as advertised, though not quite as secluded as I'd hoped. But the view to the west and the constant thunder of the pounding surf made it seem more remote. I would not hesitate to recommend it and we will stay there again the next time we visit Todos Santos.

Magic
Property was just as it looked it the pictures but better. If a studio in a idealic very close to the beach is what your looking for you found the place. This was a father son get away. Not only was the property brilliant we found great surf fishing out front. We called large whiting, pompano, croaker and one species I was not familiar with. Owner was very responsive to our needs and questions. I plan on returning

Peaceful stay with ocean view
If you want some peace and quiet yet close access to restaurants and the ocean, this is the place to stay. The owner was excellent at communicating with me and gave me lots of advice about many things, even after I left the property to continue my travels in Mexico. This was 100% a wonderful experience. I will definitely return.

Efficient ocean view casita
This is a one room efficient casita with adequate amenities for a pleasant and relaxing vacation. Great ocean, surf break, and sunset views, five minute easy walk to the endless beach. Bed is comfortable, kitchen functional for light use, well equipped for coffee and light meals, good refrigerator and freezer for your supplies drinks and ice. Bathroom is typical with good shower, excellent hot water, and privacy door. There are restaurants, a laundry, some services and a market nearby without having to drive into town. The owner Cathy is very attentive and helpful, provided very clear directions, responds quickly, made no exaggerated claims and was very easy to deal with. A helpful binder of information is provided to answer a lot of your questions and advise you of the area and it's attractions. Highly recommended for those seeking basic accommodations without all the bells whistles and hyperbole.

What a Place!
We were a little reticent when we booked; however, after communicating with the property owner, we fully understood the property, the location, and the intricacies of staying at La Casita Luna. The Casita is stocked with everything you need to feel at home. It was as if we just arrived at a relative’s house. The property is located a few miles from town. Access to town on foot would be inconvenient at best. By bike would be difficult. Use of a car is recommended. We never saw any form of public transportation. We were quite comfortable with the isolation and tranquility. We felt safe, both in town and at the property. It’s a very short walk to the beach. Once there, you might see people. You will see free range horses, whales at a distance, and miles of clean, lightly traveled shoreline. The few people we met on the beach were local residents and very welcoming. Walking distance from La Casita are three restaurants and a very efficient, and an affordable laundry cleaning business (50 pesos for our load of laundry to be washed, dried, folded for us). All in all, Cathy, the property owner, has been a great communicator. We would definitely enjoy another stay at La Casita.

Perfect simple property!!
Everything you would ever want to "get away from it all". Peace, quiet, nature and the beach right out of your front door. Just spent an amazing week with the family and couldn't ask for more! "Reconnecting" with the family has made it a priceless getaway as we were able to ditch the phones and computers and replace them with board games and many hours on the beach together. We were able to sample some of the best foods we have ever enjoyed in town with super friendly locals and really get into the lifestyle. Cathy's casita proved to be a perfect home base for a perfect vacation. We are already planning our return!

La solitud del viento
Loved the seclusion. The silence. The waves at night, the cacti, the birds, the big eared rabbits in the morning. The view of Punta Lobos on my left. The walks on the dunes, the beach. This is a great place to isolate oneself and work on a project. I came to write and the eight days I was there, it was very productive. That location and magical landscape create a clean slate, a mirror..... , kind of like camping on a really nice tent. I highly recommend it

Wonderful and peaceful casita
We just returned from our trip to Baja and I would definitely recommend the Casita de Luna to friends! Its located on a nice quiet spacious piece of land a little north of Todos Santos at the end of a sleepy beach road. You might see a few other people other around but you definitely feel the peace and quiet with waves crashing in the background! The casita was very clean and had all the supplies needed to make dinner and lounge on the porch. The cooler and beach umbrella were also extremely helpful on our beach adventures! It really is a very peaceful place to stay. Also Cathy was an excellent host!! She responded to all my questions and emailed a helpful info sheet with directions to the casita and places in the area where to pick up groceries, beaches to visit , etc... It's just perfect! Thank you Cathy!

Tranquil Paradise
The pictures don't do this casita justice. It's a lot closer to the beach than we thought it would be. It's only about a three minute walk. See the photo of the front of the house? I spent over a week sitting there almost all day. We could see whales from the porch, tons of different birds and plants. There are about 5 neighbors. Just close enough so you don't feel completely isolated, but far enough that you can pretend you are isolated (if you want to). It's so tranquil and relaxing. The stars from the roof were amazing. Summary: Everything you could need to feel like you are home. You can cook for yourself or drive about 10 minutes into town to eat at the many restaurants. Close to town and markets, but far enough away to feel at peace. Very affordable for the location. The owner was super-helpful and encouraged me to ask questions before our arrival. She sent an email to check in on us after the first day. She's so kind to share her home with you. I really want to go back already.

A special treasure in Todo Santos
We very much enjoyed and Casa de Luna in Todo Santos and hope to come back and stay again. The property was very private and quiet, with ocean waves crashing in the distance, it was a peaceful and restful place to stay. The home was well equipped and we loved all the light coming in through the ample windows. Our favorite time was sitting on the patio, morning coffee in hand, spotting whales spouting and breaching. The stars at night were spectacular as well. It was a short walk down the path to the nearby beach where you can take long walks by the ocean. The owner was helpful and attentive answering any questions quickly. It is obvious that they love and care for this property and is is awesome that they are willing to share this special treasure.

Perfect, simple little home with outdoor living
This little casita was perfect for our family of four. There are windows everywhere so you can see the stars at night as you lay in bed.The open landscape in the yard allows you to see all the beauty of the ocean, as well as both sunrise and sunset views. It was a very quiet neighborhood, away from all the barking dogs and music that in town rentals come with.

Quiet and Peaceful
I loved Casita Luna, it was perfect for me as a solo traveler seeking a retreat and quiet. It was just far enough out of town to be quiet, but close enough to everything I needed. (You do need a car) The place is clean, and I especially appreciated having screened doors and windows. It's not for someone who wants luxury, it's a basic, cozy place. Especially loved the porch with a view of the ocean where I saw whales more than once. The owner was extremely helpful, responsive to emails or calls, and had so much good information to share about the area. Really appreciated her very much! I hope to return, it is a special place. The only thing I would add is a little bedside lamp!

Incredible Experience!!
My husband and I spent an amazing week in Todos Santos this past February. Casita de Luna was the perfect home base - amazing view of the ocean, short walk to the beach, and overall very cute, clean, and comfortable. We rented a car (which I would definitely recommend) but the casita is within walking distance of the beach and the grocery story. We had coffee and breakfast on the porch every morning and watched for whales (we saw several!), wandered around the friendly town of Todos Santos, and explored the many beaches in the area. Cathy was incredibly helpful while we planned for our trip and the property manager was kind and accommodating. Hoping to return sooner than later!!

Cute little house on a nice beach
Very quaint and cute house in an excellent location on the beach in Todos Santos. We enjoyed walking to the beach daily and watching the sunset. The rooftop deck is great for enjoying the views of the neighborhood, the ocean and sunsets. The location of the house is hard to beat - it has a large yard and is surrounded on two sides by vacant land. Lots of space to enjoy yourself. The owner, Cathy, was extremely responsive and a lovely hostess. Thank you again for allowing our dogs to accompany us - they really enjoyed the proximity to the beach, daily beach runs, and relaxing in the large yard. We all enjoyed watching the local wildlife, including large jack rabbits, lizards, and many beautiful birds that would come out at dusk (my favorites are the ones I describe as wearing "top hats"). The house is a very close distance to all the restaurants and shops in town. The house is powered by solar, and we learned not to use too many devices at once. Thanks again for a lovely experience!

Great rental
If you want to get away from it all this is the rental for you. Casita de luna is a small, clean, comfortable but simple space, close to the ocean but not too close to the town of Todos Santos. Probably best to have a car if you rent here but perfectly located if you do. The owner was great. Very responsive. We recommend this this place highly

Casita magico
A wonderful week enjoying the peace and relaxation of Casita de Luna. Owner is friendly and very responsive to questions before and during stay. Location is excellent for taking in nature, which abounds. The charming town is just minutes away. The diversity of songbirds, and spotting whales off the coast right from the little covered patio, a delight. The casita is comfortable and well cared for.The only thing I could have wished for was a longer stay.

Rented in March 2014
Casita de luna was the perfect spot for our week in Todos Santos while visiting friends. My husband and I had no car but friends took us around the area most of our stay. We walked to the shops in town along the ocean side roads one day and the round trip was about 7 miles. It is an interesting walk away from the busy paved main road passing mansions and local Mexican homes while wending through a bit of desert and along some of the dunes. If one has no transport though I would recommend acquiring something for getting around when one needs supplies or for further exploring. In our view this little rental was unbeatable and we will return when we’re able. It is aesthetically pleasing- simple, efficient, immaculate, a very comfortable bed and well stocked with vacation amenities… comfy movable chairs, guide books, reading material, extra kitchen items like seasonings, dry goods, condiments … flashlights, candles- extra toiletries like shampoo and bug spray…good bottled water. Plentiful hot water, lights and a very nice shower. The ocean location is just right. Away from beach traffic but an easy stroll to it, quiet with the ocean waves echoing as in an amphitheater with the changing tides, and the moonlight over the white casita and the sand, spilling though windows- magical and amazing, a real retreat. The natural world access from this casita is wonderful. A short walk brings one to the hatching sea turtle release site where you can join in watching the babies make their dash to the Pacific Ocean. Whales do pass and keeping eyes open even in rough waters from the kitchen window we viewed a humpback breaching. One will see ocean and desert birds, and the view from the protected rooftop perch, perfect for a pause and a sit down is splendid. So in our view, the owner has it just right for the makings of a trip of a lifetime. We recommend it highly.

Great little quiet place!
One morning we drank coffee on the porch and watched whales breeching, listening to the many different birds singing!! Love this quiet little place. We were able to save money by buying food at some of the local markets and cook at home. Casita De Luna is in a great location, close enough to town and an easy drive to many different beaches. The people in Todos Santos were welcoming, friendly. The owner of Casita De Luna was very helpful, giving us tips for our trip. The Casita is clean and well stocked with spices and such for cook - and books! Definitely worth checking this great little place out!

Perfect Baja vacation!
The casita has a very open, peaceful, relaxing quality. The perfect homebase for exploring the charming town of Todos Santos, the local beaches, breathtaking hikes and easy access to La Paz. About a 10 minute walk down the beach and we were able to watch baby sea turtles being released each night, and a couple of us got to go on "Turtle Patrol" to rescue freshly laid turtle eggs. Just a short drive and we were on the Fisherman's Beach and bought fresh fish directly from the fishermen. A short, but steep, hike from the Fisherman's beach and we had a breathtaking view of a protected cove. An hour's drive away in La Paz and we swam with whale sharks. A tremendous experience. All of these great adventures during the day, and then we returned to the very welcoming casita, to sit out on the front porch up or on the roof terrace and watch gorgeous sunsets (often marguerita in hand). We saw whales spouting every day from the porch and while washing dishes at the kitchen sink. The casita was very clean and comfortable. I would not hesitate to recommend the casita to anyone. The pictures do not do it justice. It's hard to capture its personality in pictures.

La Casita- great visit and stay in southern Baja
This studio is in the perfect location for both mainstream and off-the-beaten-path exploration of southern baja centered out of Todos Santos. The studio is nicely designed and constructed, both exterior and interior. Spatious and open with great natural lighting, kerosene lamps and generated lights. We were completely comfortable starting and ending our day at "La Casita". Access to the beach is ideal as are views of the ocean from the roof-top patio. The roof-top is also a perfect location for a sunset cocktail and later for stargazing. Studio is private and few others were encountered at the local beach. Studio is well equiped for cooking using a simple style propane stove. If visiting in the offseason (summer/late summer) be preapared for heat. Studio would benefit from soon-to-be installed ceiling fans and a patio shade (palapa) to defend from direct sun. We spent our 20th anniversy here and did many wonderful activities including sea kayaking and snorkelling, surf (DIY) and charter fishing, hiking, "towning and fooding", and made the easy trek to LaPaz. Next visit may be with 3 kids ages 2-13.

Host profile image
We always wanted to retire in Mexico some day. We found the property and wonderful community of Todos Santos and knew we were home. We purchased in 2004, then built our casita in 2011 with a lot of patience and love. We adore the Mexican culture, the Spanish language, the laid back pace and the outdoors. Being an ecologist and science teacher, we are drawn to the plant and animal life. We spend most of our time outdoors, even if it's just swinging in the hammock and reading. Our girls enjoy it also and have grown up exploring the beach and helping with many baby sea turtle releases and egg recovery. And we're happy to help you connect with nature and the local culture on your visit.

Why they chose this property

The casita borders a large expanse of undeveloped cactus forest - unusual for so close to town. Bordering 90+ acres of undeveloped, cactus forest provides one of the best natural settings around Todos. Wildlife abounds, including grey foxes that have denned nearby and osprey that catch their fish and perch in nearby cardon cactus to feast. And our resident roadrunner visits often, as well as cardinals, Orioles and woodpeckers. Not to mention the whale migration and turtle nesting on our beach! Mountain biking and horseback riding right in the neighborhood.

Todos Santos is a small, friendly community that will engage all your senses and interests, in a relaxed setting! There is an interesting blend of international (US, Canadian, Italian, French) and Mexican cultures here that has produced an eclectic art, entertainment and food scene in town. Some other products of this cultural cross-pollination are the Todos Santos music festival, with both Latin and rock music (in mid to late January), the Festival del Cine/Movie Festival, the gastronomical festival and a Mango festival (in summer), as well as many festive Mexican holidays. Casita de Luna is the perfect home base for your day trips into the Sierra Laguna mountains, the old mining town of El Triunfo, La Paz and even busy Cabo San Lucas.

What makes this property unique

Situated near the desert oasis of Todos Santos, Casita de Luna has privacy, off-road parking, NO dust or traffic & is set back from main roads for a greater sense of security. French doors open up onto a nice porch that faces the ocean and wraps around to face the 7000 ft Sierra Laguna mountains. Also, a rooftop terraza with 360 degree views provide primo space for dinning outside or having sunset drinks. Hammock, recliner, chairs and table available for your extensive hours outdoors relaxing. The house is open and airy, as the French doors allow refreshing breezes to flow through the house. You can even watch whales breaching in the Pacific while washing dishes- close enough to hear them flop! The walk-in shower has plenty of hot water and pressurized for a full flow.

Bordering 90+ acres of undeveloped, cactus forest provides one of the best natural settings around Todos. We have a resident road runner and cardinals, orioles, osprey, Gila woodpeckers visible from our porch. Not to mention the whale migration!
