About this property

Summerwood ~ Charming, Hot Tub, Family-Friendly Cabin! Walk to Town!

Summerwood is nestled in a forested neighborhood on the hill above downtown Guerneville. With a hot tub, multiple decks including seating areas and a propane firepit, terraced yard, and outdoor dining – all surrounded by lush greenery - you will love being outdoors! Inside, catch up on your favorite shows in the living room, furnished with a 46' flat-screen Roku TV, a plush sofa, and two modern armchairs. A wood-burning fireplace makes for a cozy mood. The dining table doubles as an excellent spot for board games and puzzles. Open beam ceilings, wood flooring, and large windows create a warm and inviting space.

Your Northen California retreat wouldn’t be complete without indulging in a meal – or several – utilizing local produce and everyone’s favorite – WINE! Multiple wineries of great renown and even more family-run, small-lot vineyards are a short drive. If beer or cider are your preference, you’re in luck as well! And this well-stocked kitchen is the place to explore your inner chef. Followed by a soak in the hot tub or a hike in Armstong Woods.

An easy 15-minute walk into downtown Guerneville to visit Johnson’s Beach, eclectic shops and art galleries, and Safeway, you may prefer a cab or rideshare for the return (uphill) trip. Unless you’re missing the gym and need a workout!

Previous guests say it best – calling Summerwood an ideal getaway for families, relaxation in the woods (without camping), updated with old-school charm. We invite you to find a new favorite at Summerwood.

A Note About Our Cleaning Fees: Thank you for supporting our local business! When you stay with us, you are supporting local families at work. We think everyone deserves a decent living wage, and we make sure to set the rates and fees so that our cleaners earn a living wage in beautiful Sonoma County.

Backing out of the carport and driveway may be tricky for some – please look at the photos! RVs, trailers, and campers are prohibited, per the Sonoma County Vacation Rental Ordinance.

Bedrooms and Skylights: The downstairs bedroom has a wonderful, substantial, skylight over the bed. We love this for moon and stay gazing, but it also lets in the morning light too early for some late sleepers. The upstairs bedrooms have smaller skylights and a “shade” treatment to reduce the brightness.

There’s a woodburning stove in the living room - please only use wood in the woodstove. While there may firewood and kindling at the property, it is not promised. We recommend bringing your own or checking at the property before purchasing wood.

Cooling: There are 3 mini-split A/C units and heating units in the house (1 in the living room and in each upstairs bedroom). There are also back up portable fans and a ceiling fan over the stairs.

Kitchen: In addition to the usual appliances, Summerwood’s kitchen includes a dishwasher, expresso/cappuccino maker, and lots of extras.

Bathrooms: The upstairs bathroom includes a shower over bathtub and the downstairs bathroom has a shower.

Location: Summerwood is in a cozy residential neighborhood. It is a mix of permanent residents and vacation rentals, families, working folks, and visitors. To honor this balance, we ask guests to park in the driveway and respect the quiet hours in addition to general family-friendly, residential neighborhood expectations. Thank you for helping to continue the tradition of a mutually beneficial relationship between vacation rentals and local community!

Road to Summerwood: There are multiple ways to get to Summerwood and some are narrow one-lane curvy hillside roads - fully paved and no special vehicle is required. We provide detailed written driving directions with the best way to get to the house to confirmed guests.

Stairs: There are a couple of stairs at the front door, two steps from the living room into the master bedroom, a flight of interior stairs between the upper and lower level of the house, and exterior stars between the terraced levels of the yard and several decks. Each is shown in the photos.

Pet Friendly: Summerwood welcomes one well-behaved dog per reservation.

Fencing: Summerwood’s yard and decks are not fenced.

Short on maintenance and supplies
The home was very nice, clean. We booked the home for one week....However, the tv in living room, you could not watch due to the speaker was so blown, totally distorted. There were no garbage bags, only the two which were in cans. The hot tub when I opened it, smelled so bad (rotten eggs) and was milky!! Could not use either. The home in backyard is pet friendly, however, the whole backyard around the deck had large trees that had berry blooms all over, pretty but were poisonous if ingested!! Totally not pet friendly!!?? So that made the entire week nerve-racking with my little Frenchie. The pool guy finally showed up the day before we left. And and as a funny , the neighbor to left side of house loves to walk nude and trim her plants...No biggie lol !! Overall, whomever is NOT doing the maintenance on the property with supplies and cleaning, fired!! 150.00 for a tv replacement would be recommended. Oh and two towels in two bathrooms each for one week was also poor planning, along with no washcloths. I stay in vacation homes about 5 times a yr, this homes maintenance was pretty bad !! I've stayed in little sugar shacks on coast , but had all maintenance and supplies as needed for a family of four for one week!!

Nice Place! Would stay again.
I chose this property because I liked the rustic look of the place and it fit our needs. It met my expectations. The beds were decently comfortable (foam not spring mattresses), the furnishings are what's to be expected of a property that has been a dedicated rental forever. I liked the local art up on the walls. Every room has a skylight, and that helped us wake up bright and early. The driveway is a little steep, our tires were spinning getting in and out. The hot tub wasn't working, they tried to come fix it, but it has an error message that activates a few minutes after it looks like it's working, so we never did get to use it. The AC worked well which was critical because it was 100 degrees outside. I had a fun time with my family. We did a river float 2.5 miles from Steelhead Beach to Sunset Beach, there is a convenient shuttle service between the two. We ate at a local restaurant downtown with live music and hung out on the back porch at night. There is also an excellent ice cream parlor. This place helped us make some good memories and the rental company was easy going.
