Spacious Eastham retreat

My family had a great week at Ross and Barbara’s house. The house was very spacious for the 4 of us, had a well-stocked kitchen, and was in a great location to access ocean and bay beaches and the rail trail. It’s located in a peaceful neighborhood. Beds were comfortable and we all slept well. Bird feeders in the backyard were a nice bonus, we really enjoyed the variety of birds to watch from the couch. I hope we get to come back again soon!

Minister Pond Paradise

Our family really enjoyed our week at Minister Pond. The home was spacious for 5 adults, clean and complete with everything we needed to enjoy our week at the Cape. We enjoyed taking the canoe and rowboat out on pond, fire pit in the evenings, biking on the bike trail which is close by and the beaches. Plenty of privacy but close to everything you might want to enjoy on your vacation. Hoping to return here in the future.

Two thumbs way up!

First impressions: clean and spacious! We thoroughly enjoyed all aspects that this beautiful home had to offer: pond with paddle boats to use, deck and balcony, proximity to bay and open-ocean beaches, bike path, restaurants, tennis, birdwatching, great kitchen, clean linens and towels, spa-like master bathroom Barbara and Ross really make your vacation easy because they provide so much so you can pack less!

Great stay, peaceful location

This home is a great place to stay. Clean, quiet, well equipped. Near everything, yet on a quiet side road. Owners, Barbara & Ross, are nearby if you need anything, but also leave you alone to enjoy your vacation. You can't go wrong with this place.

Even better than we expected!

And we had high expectations! The house is bigger and better than the pictures suggest and our hosts were great. The house would be a great place to stay all by itself but we also loved Eastham and being a 15 minute bike ride from both the ocean and the bay. We definitely plan to return!

Fabulous Stay

As so many others have commented, the overall experience was 5 star. From the super easy check-in ( we were even able to park one of our 2 cars early, allowing us time for lunch and a little beach walk), to the cleanliness, attention to detail, great internet, and gorgeous property, the experience could not have been better. Our hosts were quick to respond to any questions and made us feel at home. We love the Eastham area for the proximity to Beaches, bike trail, and all that the outer cape has to offer.

Cape Cod Gem

Our family of 7 had the best time ever at this beautiful home. We enjoyed kayaking, paddling and swimming in the fresh water Minister Pond. Barbara and Ross are excellent hosts and most accommodating for our family reunion evening when the rest of the gang came over from Orleans. Honestly, overall, A+!!

Barbara and Ross were very welcoming during our stay on the 1st week of August. The house on the lake made us feel right at home after a day at the beach or shopping. Everything in the home worked fine. Thank you for the use of your home. Ray and Karol

Cape Cod Retreat

This house was incredible: very clean, comfy, and spacious. It is clear the owners put a lot of love and care into the house and property. They were very welcoming and accessible. The house was well stocked with pillows, bedding, towels, and basic supplies. The kitchen was well-equipped. Outside, the yard and plants were well-cared for. There was a wonderful back porch, a grill, fireplace, and a canoe and a boat for the pond. Highly recommended!

Great Vacation Rental

This is a lovely home to allow you to have a restful, relaxing, and smooth vacation. Our group of six (2 grandparents, 2 parents, 2 kids) has a wonderful experience. The property offers many amenities from a rental perspective-- a well-stocked, spacious kitchen for your cooking needs, excellent grill, and patio space, Smart TVs for streaming, easy/ample parking, comfy beds, clothes line for wet suits and towels, comfy couches for lounging. We enjoyed time on the pond and using their outdoor fireplace when we weren't out at the beach. The location is great with easy access to Rt. 6. The home is comfortable and well-maintained and the gardens, wooded area, and bird watching add to the enjoyment. Barbara and Ross are kind and gracious hosts. We look forward to renting again.

Amazing Vacation Rental

This rental was absolutely amazing. The hosts, Barbara & Ross were delightful. They were extremely friendly, understanding, accommodating, and overall wonderful people. The property/house was very clean, quiet, and spacious. It was everything we could have hoped for and more. The backyard was perfect for hanging out and playing games, and the grill was great as well. Not to mention the beautiful pond right behind the house! The rental is not far from beaches, mini golf, and restaurants. We loved all of the recommendations for things to do that Barbara & Ross had in the house. We can’t thank you enough for everything! We will be definitely be back!

Great location and space

If you like being in Eastham, this is a great location. The house is an easy bike ride away from both Coast Guard and Nauset Light beaches, and the bay. It's around the corner from Arnold's. The accommodations are clean, comfy and spacious and the landscaping is very nice. The upper deck off the master bedroom and the covered lower deck were much appreciated, as is the outdoor shower. The only real downside to the house is that the living room doesn't get much natural light. The hosts are very responsive and helpful.

Wish we were still there!

This was a really great place to stay. We all loved watching the birds, squirrels and chipmunks hanging out together. My younger son loved spending time in the hammock. Another plus was the close proximity to the Rail Trail that we walked or biked over to almost everyday as well as Arnold’s where we played mini-golf twice. This house was immaculate and had absolutely everything you could want. Not having to worry about bringing linens and towels was huge! I really liked the balcony off the upstairs bedroom as well. There was plenty of space for my husband, my father in law and my two teenage sons. I highly recommend staying here and I know that we will be considering it for next summer.

Eastham Escape

This home is lovely and even nicer in person than in the photos on-line! There was nothing we did not have available and our hosts were easy to reach for any questions. The property is beautiful, well kept and abundantly welcoming. We enjoyed the back porch and watching the birds and chipmunks all around the bird bath and feeder. There was a breeze on the back porch and our favorite spot to relax. The gardens full of perennials and herbs are gorgeous. The outdoor shower was so handy along with the beach chairs, towels and umbrella. The kitchen had every utensil you could ever need and the master bath is like a spa. This home is situated not more than a 5 minutes away from some of the best Eastham has to offer. Coast Guard beach was our favorite, we enjoyed dining in and barbecuing on the gas grill, and takeout from Arnolds. We visited Provincetown and Wellfleet. Eastham is our "home away from home" now. We will surely visit again. Eastham has the best beaches on the Cape!

Amazing stay on the Cape!

We’re just back from our stay on Cape Cod and really missing our temporary home on Knowles Rd. Owners Barbara and Ross greeted us on arrival and made us feel very welcome. Their personal touch is found throughout this home with paintings by local artists and it was really well stocked in the kitchen and baths. What a great location to wake up to each morning with a view of Minister Pond and a yard teeming with wildlife including chipmunks and numerous birds. A canoe and a row boat gave us the ability to take relaxing cruises on the pond. This location is also great for bike rides to the Salt Pond Visitors Center where there is a beautiful bike trail to the ocean at Coast Guard Beach. You can also ride a short distance to join the Cape Cod Rail Trail at Arnold’s or just have a lobster roll there. By car we ventured out to Chatham to shop, Wellfleet to sail, Provincetown to fish and Eastham’s bay beaches to swim and watch the sunset. We need a vacation from this vacation house! Sincere thanks to Barbara and Ross for sharing their home and for the great memories we take home.

Pictures don't even do this home justice !

Coming home to this retreat was a warm hug around our family of four (two adults, two boys). Its got peaceful, cool, easy, and happy energy. My husband and I felt very happy to have a separate area all ourselves (love you kids, mean it, we'll be upstairs on the deck). The kitchen is equipped with anything you need (eg marshmallow roasting sticks, lobster pot, plenty of utensils of all kinds, and herbs). The house is very spacious, more so than how the pictures depict it. The convenience to Coast Guard beach enabled us to ride our bikes when the lot was full! The Rail Trail is just a skip away, we loved the play ground down the street, kids brought a basketball and enjoyed a sweet court. Rode bikes back and forth a few times by themselves. Arnolds right up the street is fan-freakin-tastic. Barabara & Ross greeted us warmly. We felt welcome from the minute we arrived. Even though they are right next door, we experienced it as a pleasure, there was complete privacy but also a comfort knowing that if we needed a thing, we could ask. Turns out, we needed nothing. Barbara noticed the hammock rope was getting a bit fringed, and placed a new on the back deck! My youngest loved the hammock. It's the small things like that that set this place a part from others: Large beautifully landscaped yard; quiet dirt road; clothes line out back; private bedroom for young teen (and the futon was preferable to the twin bunk bed); and semi-private for younger brother; the bird feeders and bath that bring in beautiful creatures; outdoor fire place was safe and easy--there was plenty of wood left over from previous stays and a fresh bunch on the patio for us; seeing swans on minister pond from the canoe; second story deck puts you in the tree tops; the couches beg you to nestle and watch lots of Red Sox games since you've beached all day; office space in upstairs room for your occasional need to work a bit, and a jacuzzi to remind you that you are on a seriously great vacation; very good tasting city water through tap, but also distilled/reverse osmosis provided ; encouragement to compost; recyciing made easy; espresso machine; deep kitchen sink and very efficient dishwasher, gas powered stove top, easy to use laundry, plenty of towels/linens. We did not use the fireplace inside, but it sure is pretty. We didn't use the coffee maker in the bathroom upstairs, but how cool that it's there! The house spoils you, but is not pretentious and that is how we like to vacation!

About the host

Hosted by Barbara and Ross McDonald

Host profile image
Ross and Barbara are beach lovers and look forward to sharing their house with like minded people. Both hard workers, they find their peace and relaxation enjoying Cape Cod's natural beauty with family and friends. Owners live in barn cottage on property.

Why they chose this property

This started as a tiny pond side cottage which has been lovingly expanded over many years. It is now a comfortable retreat from the 'busy-ness' of Cape Cod summers, nestled on a dirt road close to bike trails, and the ocean, pond and bay beaches of Cape Cod. Fresh water fishing from the private dock is at your doorstep. Those who wish to cook will find the gourmet kitchen inviting. The open living plan allows not only for great family time, but for lovely breezes to keep you cool all summer. A stroll up the dirt road will bring you to a full size public playground adjoining the local elementary school. Swings, climbing jungle, basketball courts and baseball diamond are all free for your use.

What makes this property unique

Easy access to the bike trails, the beaches. Quiet dirt road still a stone's throw to Arnold's famous Clam Bar and the National Seashore Visitor's Center. Pond frontage with a floatation, launching dock, a canoe and row boat one can use to enjoy the water and a stone fireplace at pond's edge for intimate family gatherings
