Coming home to this retreat was a warm hug around our family of four (two adults, two boys). Its got peaceful, cool, easy, and happy energy. My husband and I felt very happy to have a separate area all ourselves (love you kids, mean it, we'll be upstairs on the deck). The kitchen is equipped with anything you need (eg marshmallow roasting sticks, lobster pot, plenty of utensils of all kinds, and herbs). The house is very spacious, more so than how the pictures depict it. The convenience to Coast Guard beach enabled us to ride our bikes when the lot was full! The Rail Trail is just a skip away, we loved the play ground down the street, kids brought a basketball and enjoyed a sweet court. Rode bikes back and forth a few times by themselves. Arnolds right up the street is fan-freakin-tastic. Barabara & Ross greeted us warmly. We felt welcome from the minute we arrived. Even though they are right next door, we experienced it as a pleasure, there was complete privacy but also a comfort knowing that if we needed a thing, we could ask. Turns out, we needed nothing. Barbara noticed the hammock rope was getting a bit fringed, and placed a new on the back deck! My youngest loved the hammock. It's the small things like that that set this place a part from others: Large beautifully landscaped yard; quiet dirt road; clothes line out back; private bedroom for young teen (and the futon was preferable to the twin bunk bed); and semi-private for younger brother; the bird feeders and bath that bring in beautiful creatures; outdoor fire place was safe and easy--there was plenty of wood left over from previous stays and a fresh bunch on the patio for us; seeing swans on minister pond from the canoe; second story deck puts you in the tree tops; the couches beg you to nestle and watch lots of Red Sox games since you've beached all day; office space in upstairs room for your occasional need to work a bit, and a jacuzzi to remind you that you are on a seriously great vacation; very good tasting city water through tap, but also distilled/reverse osmosis provided ; encouragement to compost; recyciing made easy; espresso machine; deep kitchen sink and very efficient dishwasher, gas powered stove top, easy to use laundry, plenty of towels/linens. We did not use the fireplace inside, but it sure is pretty. We didn't use the coffee maker in the bathroom upstairs, but how cool that it's there! The house spoils you, but is not pretentious and that is how we like to vacation!
