Great
Property was amazing, directions were spot on and it was beautiful. The spiral staircase was tight and definitely not kid friendly. The bathroom upstairs and showered were great!!

Dreamy
We had such an incredible time at this lodging. We wanted to get away from the stress of the city and found this gem of a place. Our first night, we were sitting at the hot tub listening to music when it started snowing! It was magical. We had downloaded some movies on our tablet and enjoyed watching them wrapped around a fire. Not to mention, how incomparable it is to wake up in the middle of nowhere with your significant other and no interruptions. That being said, I should reiterate some key points that should be obvious from the description but you should have in mind. This lodging is ouuuut there. You have to follow the directions of the host exactly because a) there’s no cell reception for half of the way and b) the roads get pretty wild out there and the last thing you want is to get stuck there. If you are driving, make sure you have snow chains and a 4x4. We had an all wheel drive and I think we would’ve done better on the road leading up to the house if we had a sturdier vehicle. The communication with the hosts leading up to the stay was excellent. I felt like my questions were thoroughly answered and they seemed like lovely folks. Anyways, I don’t know why the last review is from 2017 but I’ve recommended this place to literally everyone I know. It is THAT good! Give yourself a chance to delight in the magic of this place, you won’t regret it.

The dogs were a bit much
For the most part, the treehouse accommodations were what we expected - Charming and a little rugged. Our favorite part about it was listening to cassette tapes and drinking wine under the stars and the colorful lights on the patio. On the downside, we were greeted by a couple of really big dogs that jumped on us and barked at us the whole time we unpacked our car. It was a little intimidating but we're all dog lovers so it was ok. The dogs came back for a visit in the middle of the night howling at the full moon. Additionally, we couldn't get the hot tub to heat up so that was a bummer. However, we did not call the caretaker because it was late by the time we decided to get in. He probably could've fixed it so I wouldn't let that deter you. Earlier in the day we walked over and met the caretaker who was very kind and welcoming. Overall, we had a great weekend in White Salmon and Hood River and enjoyed our stay at the treehouse.

Tranquil setting. Clean living quarters. Elegantly rustic.
The feeling I received after staying there was that I could live there peacefully for quite some time. The Innkeeper was attentive, some times to the point of being too visible, but he was polite and willing to go the extra mile for us as guests. We have a pleasant visit with the owner - His personality fit as the owner of the property.

The perfect spot
After booking this place and looking at the map, I feared it would be too far out there for us to really enjoy the area. But it was actually just about the perfect amount of "far away" - close enough to get to town easily, but far enough away that we didn't hear the fireworks (which was the whole reason we went - our dogs hate fireworks). and speaking of dogs, don't let Bruisers name and size fool you - he is one of the sweetest and best behaved dogs you'll ever meet. Having him around actually made our stay more enjoyable because he was such a delight. Even our dogs loved him. As for the cabin itself, I don't think there was anything we needed that wasn't there. It's just the perfect size for a couple looking for a nice romantic getaway. The hot tub was clean and worked (we've had issues with that at other properties), the bed was comfortable, and the kitchen was fully stocked. The only oddity was the floor sloped a bit, but not badly, and really - it's a treehouse, built on and in the trees - the slope gave it that rustic feeling. It DID take me a half day to stop feeling like I had just gotten off a ship after a few days at sea (if you've ever been in the Navy you'll recognize that feeling), but it's all part of the charm. I've seen some other reviews that complained about the caretakers house being able to "see in". Meh.. for one, it's pretty far away. Across a field and behind a barn. If you're concerned about him watching you, I have to wonder what kind of neighbors you have. And speaking of neighbors, the caretaker (drawing a blank on his name) is a super interesting guy. Quite a history and great stories if you get the chance to talk to him. We were there on the 4th of July, and when we returned from town that day, he had a whole picnic spread waiting for us for dinner (we had discussed it with him ahead of time - it wasn't like we wanted privacy and he intruded). Really nice guy, very attentive to our needs. All in all, great stay and once the yurt is complete, we'll probably go stay there too.

Calm and Cozy Winter Getaway
My boyfriend and I stayed here for the weekend before Valentine's Day and we had a fantastic stay! While arranging for the stay, the treehouse owners were supremely flexible and helpful with our scheduling. When we actually began our trip, the drive out was beautiful with the winter snow everywhere. The treehouse cabin was also the perfect size for the two of us. It was just a 45 minute drive into Hood River (and that's partially due to snow), so we were able to spend the day in town exploring some hiking trails and waterfalls near Mt. Hood, then taking advantage of all the wonderful dining options in town. Then we came back to the treehouse and spent our evening relaxing in the wonderful hot tub. We also appreciated being out in the woods, surrounded by so much scenery and opportunities to explore, as this was a "no cell phones" trip for us. The treehouse keepers down the next driveway were lovely people and we had a wonderful time chatting with them when we checked in an out. All around, it was a wonderful stay, and I would definitely reccommend this cabin to any couple looking for a getaway from their everyday lives and a chance to be together and have a breath of fresh air.

A fun and memorable retreat!
We loved our stay. Luxury accommodations or Swiss Family Robinson, it's not... but the quiet, the charm, the dogs, the small town, and the scenery are absolutely one of a kind. We had dinner in Stevenson and White Salmon, and packed our own food for breakfast and lunches. The Lyle Trail along the Klickitat river provided a long lovely hike, and the hot tub at the tree house was our reward. The owners, Roy and Rebecca, supplied excellent directions and communication and were willing to chat with us about the Tree House's history.

Completely unplugged!
This was the perfect venue for an unplugged weekend for us. We are extremely busy on a regular basis and in desperate need of a little time to focus on each other. The treehouse is ideal for a romantic get away. No TV, no cell service, no wifi. Simply perfect. The kitchen is well stocked with whatever you might need to prepare meals. They even left a number of tea light candles for us to use in the various candle holders inside and on the deck. There was a fire burning in the wood stove when we arrived (nice touch) so is was warm when we arrived. The hot tub was nice and hot (can't stand a lukewarm hot tub). The deck is private as it faces away from the treehousekeepers place. We enjoyed the eclectic selection of cassette tapes. After awhile we just started putting random tapes in and listened to quite a range of different genres. The spiral stair case is a bit narrow but as a larger person I didn't find it difficult at all. The treehouse keepers dogs (who we called Bud, Daisy and Mack because we didn't know their names) came and made friends with our guy Flash. They were very polite and sweet. Flash enjoyed being part of a pack for a few days. I would caution visitors to the tree house to try to arrive before dark as the last 2 miles to the tree house are a gravel road that felt a bit sketchy on a dark foggy night. We visited Katina's Café in White Salmon for breakfast (very good) and the Naked Winery Tasting room (great fun, not for the prudish) while in the area. We plan to make many return visits to the Lothlorien tree House!

So amazing and wonderful!
This tree house is so sweet and nice and our stay was incredible. The hot tub was hot and not chemically feeling and the bed was comfortable. There is plenty of wood to keep the stove going and it keeps the whole place very very warm. There are a few dogs who live across a field and they came to say hello everyday and even took us for a hike up over the snowy ridge. The kitchen is well stocked with utensils and cookware and there is a coffee maker and a few other things like salt and pepper available. We will definitely be coming back! The only thing I'd say is be aware of the narrow steep spiral staircase to access the upstairs bedroom area: a very large person or a person with limited mobility would have a hard time. Thanks for everything is was the best birthday I've ever had!

Treehouse
The hot tub was great. The setting is quaint but it needs some updating. The collection of "cassette" tapes is interesting and would have been even better if the cassette player actually worked! Major areas were clean but there was a level of grime on anything you touched, such as the toaster. We had to clean some items in order to be comfortable using them. It was all just fine, not remarkable, but fine. I personally would not stay there again but I am sure others will continue to enjoy it. Location is a bit of a challenge!

Not what was expected
We were very surprised to find that the tree house was not really "hidden away". While you really did have to drive out to the middle of nowhere to get there, we were surprised to find that it was on an inhabited property. You could see the "tree keeper's" house from the patio area and even through the windows from the inside. With the other house being so close, it would have been nice to have curtains or blinds to help feel like we had our privacy but it didn't. There was a note inside giving us instructions like to wash the dishes and put them back where we found them, to only place organic fruit and veggie scraps into the compost receptacle (no grains or meats), clean the grill after use, to bring back our recyclables with us if possible, and to even bring our used lines/bedding down to the main living area floor upon departing. No biggie...but then there was a request to leave a $15-20 gratuity. For what?!? We had dog hair in our bed, poop on the walkway to the outhouse, dogs that came to visit us every time we grilled, a bathroom with a door that I could barely close, and we didn't even have any tools to clean the grill. We ended up going into town to by a grill cleaning brush. It was nice to get away and it is a cute little place, but it was not what we were expecting, especially with how much it cost.

This property is exactly how they described it. Rustic, cozy, quirky tree house. Was a great base for us for wedding weekend festivities in nearby Hood River, White Salmon and Trout Lake.

Sweet and Peaceful "Unplugged" Romantic Escape
The house is unique, secluded and quiet, perfect for a relaxing unplugged retreat and romantic hide-a-way with your best friend and lover. The wood stove, private hot-tub, new redwood lower deck, and hand-made log bed were perfect -- and, the nicely curated selection of cassette music ranging from the Roaring Twenties to the 70's provided that extra "touch" of unexpected pleasure so rare in run-of-the-mill vacation places. We spent a fair amount of time hiking the surrounding woods and clearcuts -- that is, when we weren't in the private and secluded hot tub on the west deck of the tree house! Totally awesome and sweet place -- clean, tidy, well-appointed and no wifi or cell phone interference. Did I say "Unplugged?

No privacy and outdated
I booked this for my birthday weekend. When I reserved it, it was only supposed to be my wife and I but my brothers ended up joining me for this adventure to help me celebrate. The first night we stayed, the hot tub quit working. The next morning, I was greeted by a small kid and her dog peeking into the windows. There is no privacy, it was like staying with a distant relative. The hot tub was broken both nights. When I had the treehouse keeper come fix the hot tub the second day, she demanded I pay for my extra visitors in cash before I could stay the second night that I ALREADY PAID FOR. Mind you this is in the middle of nowhere, I had no signal on my phone and there is no laptop to process a credit card payment online. Luckily my other brother wanted to come down so he was able to bring me some cash. Otherwise I would have been stuck having to find an ATM. I paid for my brothers crashing on the floor, we didn't ask for extra linens or towels. We actually brought all of our own linens, towels, and toiletries. The whole experience was horrible and a total waste of money. Don't waste your time or money.

Why they chose this property

Built over 45 years ago and unlike so many 'Taj Mahal' style tree-houses built as spectacles, this humble, rustic tree house has raised a family. It has that welcoming feeling of 'coming home' from the first time you step foot in it. Most who come so enjoy the peace and serenity that leaving instills an incredible desire to return once again to this little Eden in the Woods.

What makes this property unique

Whether you take part in any of the many available activities in the area or simply wish to hibernate away from it all for a few days, the serene beauty of Tree House Tranquil-A-Tree has that feeling of being 'home.'

NOTE: The principal heat in our tree house is a wood-stove. During the cooler months we offer our guests the option of purchasing firewood for only $10.00/night. Because the Homeaway website does not allow for an optional firewood fee, when we receive your reservation request the fee will be added to our quote. Thank you for your understanding.
