About this property
Lake Michigan | Kemah Cottage
A historic landmark cottage situated in the center of Michigan's most quaint beach town. Built in 1899 and beautifully maintained, Kemah boasts the best views in Western Michigan. An original cottage from the Macatawa Park Hotel days, Kemah's 3,000 square feet of living space has maintained its charm. Guests will enjoy long days on the beach, relaxing evenings on the screen porch, and sunset views only our beloved Third Coast can offer.
Unlike anywhere else in Western Michigan (or the US for that matter), Macatawa is one of a kind. Laden with grand dame cottages, Macatawa brings guests back in time. The community (composed of two large dunes and one "flatland" area, home to Kemah) is known for being one large family-- in Macatawa, everyone knows everyone, and we like it that way. For many, like Kemah's owners, the area is home to generations of family members. Children that once played on the beach as kids return as adults with their own families, nostalgic & eager to provide their children with summers reminiscent of simpler times. Michiganders & Lake Michigan-ites will appreciate that Macatawa Park and the greater Holland area is one of few places on the eastern side of the Lake Michigan that has not experienced severe erosion over the past few years. Those from the coasts will be shocked that our beautiful beach, just one step out of Kemah's front door, boasts soft white sand and warm, clean water. Above all, we want our guests to know that Kemah is a family-oriented place. We are excited to open up our home in this hidden gem of Western Michigan.
Situated on the shore of Lake Michigan, Kemah boasts the best views that Western Michigan has to offer. Despite a few modern updates, the centuries-old home has maintained its cottage-y charm. Built in 1899 just after Macatawa Park Hotel, the area quickly gained a reputation as one of the most desirous escapes on Lake Michigan. Kemah was one of the private lakefront residences that made hotel guests ache for a place of their own in this luxurious part of Michigan. Later, the area would host Point West Hotel, known for attracting visitors from all parts of the country eager for beach days and excitement. Today, Macatawa Park is a unique vacation destination that offers unparalleled views & sunsets, outdoor activities (tennis & boating are local favorites), amongst a friendly neighborhood proud of its Midwestern charm.
