About this property

Big Sisu - Newly Remodeled Nordic Hideaway on Silverthorn Lake

Nordic modern cabin on beautiful Silverthorn Lake in Seeley, located perfectly between Hayward and Cable for all your adventures. Towering pine trees shade a level grass and pine needle covered lot on clear spring-fed Silverthorn Lake. The lake is a quiet-sports lake and is perfect for swimming, paddling and fishing. Canoe and kayak included.

The cabin provides over 1300 square feet of newly renovated, Nordic inspired-design, open space luxury and comfort in a wilderness setting. The all encompassing massive windows bring the outdoors in. Giant covered deck, feet away from the lake, provides a great place to enjoy coffee in the morning and a glass of wine in the evening. The coveted Norwegian cast iron Jotul stove provides warmth and comfort throughout the main living area. Perfect on those crisp cool mornings. A large private dock and a fire pit with sitting area offer a great place to hang-out with family and friends and listen to the loons and trumpeter swans.

The Seeley area is a quiet sports mecca for mountain bikers, fat bikers, XC skiers, snowshoers, hikers, paddlers, fisherman and other outdoor sports enthusiasts. The famous Birkebeiner ski trails and CAMBA mountain bike trails are only a couple of miles away from the cabin and offer world class terrain that is meticulously mapped and maintained. There is indoor storage for bikes, canoes and other sports equipment with both a garage and a barn on the property.

Birkebeiner XC Ski Trails
The 100+ kilometer Birkie trail system attracts skiers, runners, bikers, trekkers, and hikers, from beginners to elite athletes. There is typically xc skiing from December into March. Skiing on the Birkie trails requires a pass from December through March, use of the trail April through November does not require a pass.

CAMBA Mountain Bike Trails and Winter Fat Bike Trails
The CAMBA off-road mountain bike trail system consists of over 300 miles of marked and mapped trails. The CAMBA system has become recognized as the Singletrack Capital of the Midwest, with the most extensive system of interconnected singletrack east of the Mississippi. In addition, there are over 50 miles of CAMBA mountain bike trails groomed for winter fat biking.

Silverthorn Lake & Park
Easily walk or paddle to Silverthorn Lake Park located a third of a mile from the cabin and enjoy Silverthorn Lake’s sandy beach and clean, clear water. The park is a favorite spot for families to bring small children to swim and play. There is a large open air pavilion, playground equipment, picnic areas, pickleball courts, basketball court and sand volleyball courts. Silverthorn Lake is a “quiet lake” with no motorized activity allowed.

Namekagon River
Only two blocks away from the cabin is the famous Namekagon River, part of the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway. The Namekagon River is a great place to paddle or cast a fly to wild trout. Not to mention, the perfect destination for an after meal walk.

Hayward Lakes Area
The Hayward Lakes Area boasts an old-fashioned, friendly small-town atmosphere while offering the finest amenities to make it a four-season vacation destination. No matter what draws you to the Hayward area, a variety of sports and outdoor activities, excellent dining, comfortable accommodations, distinctively different shopping or an unhurried pace, Hayward has it.

National and County Forests
The Chequamegon National Forest and Sawyer County Forest are close to the cabin and offer over one million acres of great wilderness experience with many beautiful lakes and rivers within their boundaries for camping, fishing and paddling.

Very nice

This is the second time visiting Big Sisu. I've stayed in Little Sisu twice also. Both are great places to stay. Very quiet and private. There was a slight fly problem that didn't impact my visit. The owner gave me a heads-up about the issue. I had a wonderful stay. Highly recommend it.

Perfect snowy ski weekend

We thoroughly enjoyed staying at Big Sisu! It was the perfect location for us to the Birkie Trailhead and a great place to relax after skiing. The cabin is spacious, well-appointed and just lovely. We appreciated the quiet neighborhood, beautiful snowy lake views, and amazing fireplace. The host is very kind and communicative. Thumbs up from the entire family who would love to stay for future ski trips!

Early Christmas

My daughter and I stayed in Big Sisu while visiting my son and his family. We fixed our traditional Christmas dinner and invited local friends to join us. The facility was perfect for our purpose. My granddaughter especially enjoyed the ping pong table. Coming back in March.

What a fantastic long weekend at Big Sisu!

The property was beautiful! The home is clean, stylish and modern. While it was just my husband and me for this trip, a larger family would be comfortable in the space.

The Perfect Hideaway

If you're into big lake power sports, large gatherings, loud, late night bone fires, this is NOT the place for you. If you enjoy clean water, undisturbed shorelines, respectful neighbors, loons on the water, canoeing, good fishing (almost bigger than we wanted to catch in a canoe), reading books, lake swimming, clean, worry free accommodations, this IS the place for you. Although you don't get a basket of goodies upon check in (that you don't eat anyways), we felt this property was priced appropriately, had all of the necessary amenities (+Wi-Fi) and the host was as attentive as we required. Plenty of food choices and things to do in Hayward (grocery, restaurants, shopping, etc.) in the event you want to come out of hiding... at some point :)

About the host

Hosted by Jesse Izquierdo

Host profile image
Hello from the Izquierdo family. We're an adventurous family that, when not traveling, reside in the Twin Cities. With two busy outdoorsy kids, we look for every opportunity to set off on adventures and expose our kids to the natural world. We've always loved the Cable Hayward area for the endless recreational opportunities and are so lucky to call it our second home. We're so excited to be able to provide our family and other families the opportunity to access the wonders of the North Woods.

Why they chose this property

Silverthorn Lake is a unique treasure in its close proximity to all the world class trails (3 miles to OO Trailhead & 9 miles to Birkie Trailhead) and being equidistance to Hayward (10 miles) and Cable (7 miles), while still having quality lake access. If you're looking for quick access to world class trails, spring fed water for swimming and easy access to town amenities, this is your spot!

No one goes on vacation wanting to spend more time in a car. Silverthorn Lake is all about having more time to play and relax!
